Chapter 145 - There’s No Need to ntion the Past
In the noisy private room, everyone’s gaze fell in unison upon the two standing in the corner, oblivious to the song soone had selected, as the raucous music filled the room; yet, it seed to make the crowd hushed.
Most of the people present had a good relationship with Gao Chuan and Song Xin, and who didn’t know about the young Miss Song’s feelings for Gao Chuan?
Back then, there had even been rumors about their engagent, the pair indeed being every inch the golden boy and girl. Only, no one knew why Song Xin had suddenly decided to study abroad, and rumors about them vanished just as suddenly.
Could it be that after six years, Song Xin still couldn’t forget her old fla?
The onlookers all adopted the ntality of spectators, watching as Song Xin stood defiantly in front of the man, wiping her tears and questioning him sharply, "Gao Chuan, I don’t owe you anything from back then."
Gao Chuan stared at Song Xin who was speaking deliberately and emphatically about the past, his face instantly clouded with gloom.
Indeed, she owed him nothing; in the end, it was Shen i’s fault.
He had never blad her.
"Song Xin, you’re drunk," Gao Chuan realized that everyone was looking at them and, seeing her crying inconsolably, reached out to pull her to him.
The hand he had extended was slapped away by Song Xin, who seed to want to pour her heart out to him in drunken honesty. She slipped and nearly fell while struggling, fortunately catching herself on a table nearby.
Once she steadied herself again, she looked up with red-rimd eyes and asked Gao Chuan,
"Do you really expect to believe that all these years you never once had feelings for ?" Even in her intoxicated state, she refused to be the first to concede, her crisp voice filled with conviction despite being phrased as a question.
She didn’t believe it, couldn’t believe that they had grown up together since childhood, attended school together, and that Gao Chuan had never once had feelings for her.
Her liking for Gao Chuan was no secret, and now, in front of everyone, she no longer cared about their stares. She just wanted to understand whether this man loved her or not.
Even in her heart, she humbly thought that if he rely hesitated, she would take it as a sign that Gao Chuan had loved her, even if it was just a little.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as she wished.
The man’s expression remained unchanged; his tone, carrying a sharp edge, slowly emanated from his throat, "No."
He had already made things clear to her; it was all her wishful thinking.
Song Xin’s eyes narrowed as she heard his words, her legs suddenly weakened. She was already accustod to his firm stance, yet, why did her heart still feel like it was being torn apart when hearing it again?
Six years of careful concealnt, countless nights of yearning, at this mont, it all seed to be nonexistent.
Song Xin let out a cold laugh, not surprised at all, almost as if she had anticipated this outco.
Suddenly, her expression turned somber, her eyes casting an unprecedented chill, and she calmly said in a low voice, "Is it that you only had difficulty resisting because we slept together that one ti?"
The sorrow in her words was known only to her in the entire room.
Back then, both Shen i and Mrs. Song had always intended to bring them together. Watching the two graduating from college without any developnt between them, she played a little trick during her birthday, hoping to give them a push by getting them both drunk and slipping a drug into Gao Chuan’s drink.
To this day, Song Xin still rembered that night. She had been prepared to confess her love to Gao Chuan, but inexplicably, she got intoxicated and was taken to a hotel. When Gao Chuan ca in and saw her lying on the bed, inebriated, even with the overwhelming effect of the drug, he never laid a hand on her.
There was a mont when she almost thought that as a single man and a single woman sharing a room, it was only natural for them to finally be together, the legend of the golden boy and girl could finally co true.
However, she could have never imagined that the man would just coldly leave her alone in the room, making it clear that he would never like her and told her to stop playing these futile tricks.
She was so heartbroken, even though she was drunk, all the emotions surging in her heart were sour.
Later, to avoid the awkwardness between them, she made an excuse to study abroad. Even though she later learned that nothing had happened between the two of them and Shen i had promptly apologized to her, Gao Chuan completely ignored her from then on.
It was at that point she realized that the whole ti she believed the man liked her, it had been her own delusion.
In Gao Chuan’s eyes, she always carried a specific title, a neighbor’s little sister when she was younger, a classmate when she grew up.
She always thought her relentless pursuit was mutual, but in the end, she realized it was just like a moth to a fla.
At that ti, she even felt that Gao Chuan had no heart.
He could not love.
Song Xin’s voice, though soft, still landed clearly in Gao Chuan’s ears, and even the people in the entire private room heard.
Everyone looked puzzled, not knowing what kind of misunderstanding had occurred between them that made Song Xin cry so sadly.
Seeing this, Song Li had already co over, grabbed Song Xin realizing that she was drunk and talking nonsense and tried to take her ho, but the woman struggled violently, determined to have a fallout with Gao Chuan.
She said, Gao Chuan, you bastard, do you know how many years I’ve waited for you?
She said, Gao Chuan, I’ve already set my heart on you for life.
In the end, after so tussling, Song Li called over two of Song Xin’s close friends and barely managed to pull her away from the man, concluding this awkward situation.
No one expected that what was supposed to be a happy birthday party would end up in such a scene, but after Song Xin’s disturbance, everyone had seen it with their own eyes.
Under Song Li’s command, the crowd slowly dispersed, leaving only him and Gao Chuan in the room. He slowly reached into his pocket and offered a cigarette to the still-unperturbed man, lit it, and approached to ignite it, sparks imdiately flickering between his fingers.
"Don’t mind it, my sister is drunk today," Song Li turned back and lit his own cigarette as well, then turned to look at the man silently smoking.
Song Xin had been spoiled since she was a child, whenever she asked for the stars and didn’t get the moon, he, as her brother, naturally indulged her, but he never expected his sister to fall for Gao Chuan.
Not many people in the circle knew what had happened between them back then, but he, as her brother, understood her feelings very well. She did nothing wrong, she just fell in love with soone who would never bear fruit.
Gao Chuan took a drag from his cigarette, remaining silent amidst the swirling smoke.
Song Li flicked his cigarette ash and suddenly let out a scoff, "Gao Chuan, sotis I really think you’re quite indifferent. I’ve even thought, maybe you’ll never fall in love with anyone, your life is too purpose-driven."
Song Li spoke without turning to watch the man’s expression, for he knew he was only stating so facts about Gao Chuan.
From childhood, Gao Chuan seed to live all his life with definitive objectives, never incorporating sothing as nebulous as love into his life plan.
So, naturally, Song Xin’s relentless pursuit t with a wall and suffered.
It’s not that he didn’t love Song Xin, it’s that he couldn’t love anyone.
