Chapter 141 They Seem Close
The next day, after finishing work, Jiang An went to the dining hall alone for a al. Having experienced yesterday’s incident, she consciously wanted to avoid any contact with Ren Lin; it was just too awkward at this ti.
So things are not about running away, but can only be resolved over ti.
She glanced around the dining hall and did not see Ren Lin before she confidently walked in. While Jiang An was carrying her tray looking for a seat, she suddenly saw Dr. Bai not far away, waving at her. As she walked over, she heard the man laughing and saying, "Jiang An, co sit down and join us for the al."
Seeing the familiar figure sitting across from the man, Jiang An imdiately understood Dr. Bai’s intention and awkwardly looked around, convincing herself that it was normal for colleagues to sit down and have a al together.
Hesitantly, she walked around and sat next to Dr. Bai. In this awkward atmosphere, the girl only wanted to quickly finish her al and leave. Out of the corner of her eye, Gao Chuan was also silently moving his chopsticks, and neither of them looked at each other.
On the other hand, Dr. Bai seed quite interested, watching the two of them closely. He almost burst into laughter seeing this couple restrain themselves in front of him and almost spat out the rice in his mouth.
Honestly, he never thought he would catch a small handle on Gao Chuan one day.
"Jiang An, how’s it going with Dr. Song?" As silence couldn’t prevail forever among the three, the instigator Dr. Bai had to break the ice, while also sneaking a glance at Gao Chuan’s reaction.
The man still had an indifferent expression, not even lifting his head, as the girl obediently replied, "Pretty good."
With many people coming and going in the crowded dining hall, Jiang An, sitting between these two, wished she could imdiately hide under the table.
Dr. Bai nodded slightly with discontent, glanced at the still unmoved Gao Chuan, and said, "You don’t know, but you missed a great opportunity to be Dr. Gao’s first intern. Ren Lin that kid is really lucky."
Stirring the pot, listening to Dr. Bai teasing them with his sarcastic tone, Jiang An blushed, recalling yesterday’s misunderstanding caused by Dr. Bai’s paparazzi-like behavior.
"But, Lao Gao, haven’t you always said it’s troubleso and you didn’t want to take any interns? How co you made an exception this ti?" Dr. Bai continued to jest.
Gao Chuan, who had been quietly eating, looked up coldly upon hearing this, his piercing gaze landing on the playful Dr. Bai, chilling to the bone.
Dr. Bai really thought he had lived long enough.
Noticing Gao Chuan’s deathly stare, he imdiately chickened out, fearing that if he continued, Gao Chuan would really settle the score with him.
As the undercurrents stirred among the three, a sweet female voice suddenly ca from the side. Song Xin, without them noticing when, had walked up to the group with her tray, glanced at Gao Chuan, and casually remarked, "Why did you co so early today?"
Then turning her head to look at Dr. Bai and Jiang An sitting opposite Gao Chuan, she politely asked, "Do you mind if I sit here?"
Both of them, faced with this unexpected guest, were a bit flustered and blurted out, "No, no, not at all."
Seeing this, Song Xin smiled, lips curling up as she directly sat down next to Gao Chuan, with a fresh scent of perfu enveloping her.
Gao Chuan remained silent throughout the al, and as the woman sat next to him, he glanced diagonally across at Jiang An. The girl seed to be still nibbling at her rice, not looking up at them at all.
Originally, it was Dr. Bai who took the initiative to invite Jiang An to join the dinner. He did not object at the ti, but now, with the arrival of Song Xin, the atmosphere around the dinner table was eerily weird.
Finally, it was Dr. Bai who had to break the awkwardness, courteously asking Song Xin a few questions about how she was settling into the hospital. Song Xin responded openly and confidently, with only the two of them conversing throughout, while Gao Chuan and Jiang An just listened quietly.
Feeling that the two were too silent, Dr. Bai tried to bring them into the conversation, suddenly addressing Jiang An: "I rember Dr. Jiang also graduated from A University, right? Now, our departnt suddenly has two senior alumni to look after us."
Jiang An looked up with a restrained smile, exchanging a smile with Song Xin, who happened to be looking at her. Song Xin asked her about the ntor who supervised her in school.
Jiang An truthfully answered: "Professor Chen Minhan."
Song Xin seed quite surprised to hear this, not expecting such a coincidence since Professor Chen had also been her ntor.
"Ah, Old Chen, I still keep in touch with him," Song Xin moved her chopsticks and picked at the rice in her bowl, suddenly reminiscing about her days at the university.
Back then, she and Gao Chuan were both favored students under Professor Chen. They often worked in groups together due to their good rapport and were even teased by other classmates as being a couple, with Professor Chen occasionally playing matchmaker for them.
As those tender mories of university flooded her mind, Song Xin, seemingly struck by a thought, nudged Gao Chuan, who was sitting beside her, "Hey, do you rember when we were submitting our graduation thesis? Professor Chen was almost driven mad by , staring at in his office until I finally completed the modifications."
This was a shared mory between the two of them. Song Xin spoke with slight emotion, while Gao Chuan, in silence, lifted the arm that the woman had touched; he didn’t deny her words, simply uttering a brief "Mm."
"I wonder how the old man is doing now, whether he’s still as stubborn as ever. Let’s go back to the university together soti, it’s been a long ti since I last visited." Song Xin bit her chopstick and made a thoughtful expression, her words trailing off lightly. Although the man did not agree, his expression did not reveal any discomfort.
Over the years, she had co to understand Gao Chuan’s personality intimately; conversations with him often consisted of her talking, regardless of whether Gao Chuan responded or not.
Song Xin was so engrossed in reminiscing with Gao Chuan about their university days at A University that she almost forgot there were two other people at the table. Dr. Bai and Jiang An watched as Song Xin endlessly chatted with the man, giving the impression that they were very familiar with each other.
After all, they were old classmates, Jiang An thought to herself.
However, the observant Dr. Bai didn’t think so. Watching Song Xin shift the topic to university days, her eyes never left Gao Chuan, even though the reticent man hardly responded, she still eagerly engaged him in conversation.
What this ant, Jiang An couldn’t tell, but he could.
Turning his head to look at Jiang An, who was still focused on her al, he couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious, only thinking that inviting Jiang An to join the dinner today might have been a mistake.
Watching the young lady who appeared oblivious, her eyes not straying from the two, it seed she hadn’t noticed the subtleties snaking through their interaction. If she had sensed it, then today would’ve turned into a chaotic scene.
One man, two won, stirring excitent.
