Chapter 127 Long Ti No See, Old Classmate

Jiang An spent the night in the hospital room accompanying Gao Chuan. Early the next morning, she packed up and left. Gao Chuan had arranged to be discharged the following day and had instructed her to go ho to rest first and co back in the afternoon. The girl complied with the man’s request and took a taxi ho.

Thinking that it was the ti of the Chinese New Year and the house should not be too empty, she instructed the driver to turn around and head to the supermarket.

Still not fully recovered from his illness, the hospital had specially granted Dr. Gao a few days off. After all, he had been working diligently all year long without taking much rest, and this ti it was like a mini New Year’s break.

It just so happened that after Jiang An finished her shift, she would also be able to take a few days off. Dr. Gao was considering taking her out for a trip to save himself from Gao Lin’s frequent complaints about neglecting family.

Sitting idly on the hospital bed, the man was checking the flight tickets for the next couple of days on his phone app when the door of the hospital room was suddenly pushed open, followed by a sharp female voice that broke the silence of the room.

Gao Chuan looked up at the sound and saw a slender woman walk in. She was wearing a dark blue trench coat, low-heeled shoes, and was holding a bouquet of flowers in front of her face. In a few seconds, she took the flowers away, revealing a delicate and beautiful face, uttering the word: "Surprise!"

Gao Chuan stared at the visitor, a hint of astonishnt flashing in his eyes as if he had not expected this person to appear before him, and called out in confusion, "Song Xin?"

The woman, Song Xin, is Song Li’s younger sister, who also grew up with them, although she is a year younger than them. She and Gao Chuan were in the sa class of dical students at A University, but after graduation, Gao Chuan chose to work in the hospital while Song Xin continued to study abroad.

"Long ti no see, old classmate," said the woman, putting the flowers on the table and looking at the man on the hospital bed with a rather emotional tone.

During her studies, she could not return ho many tis a year, and every ti she wanted to et up with Gao Chuan, he would decline, citing his busy work schedule. Now that she had returned from studying abroad and learned from Song Li that sothing had happened to Gao Chuan, she imdiately rushed over.

Listening to the woman’s sowhat clichéd opening remarks, Gao Chuan rembered that Song Li had ntioned to him about Song Xin’s return after the Chinese New Year. He had not paid much attention at the ti, but now that the person was standing right in front of him, it suddenly ca back to him.

Over the years, he grew close with Song Li, and naturally, he also beca familiar with his sister. Being students from A University, their relationship grew closer. That is until Shen i caused that incident, after which he deliberately maintained a distance from Song Xin.

Now that Song Xin had returned to the country and he had married, he hoped that the things of the past could also be left behind, the man thought to himself.

"When did you co back?" Gao Chuan put his phone aside on the table and asked coldly.

Song Xin, looking at the man’s cold deanor, couldn’t help but sigh that after all these years, Gao Chuan’s icy face hadn’t changed at all; her lips suddenly curved into a smile, "I got ho on the thirtieth of the New Year."

"Don’t think I ca just to see you. I’m actually here on business today," Song Xin said as she casually placed her handbag on the table nearby, as if she was afraid of being misunderstood, declaring her stance.

In front of Gao Chuan, she always acted tough, unwilling to show the slightest bit of care, as if by doing so, she could avoid losing dignity.

She is strong-willed; unconsciously, so many years have passed, and even now she doesn’t know whether what she is doing is right or wrong.

Dr. Gao heard her but didn’t argue back, seemingly aware of her reason for coming to the hospital. He reminded her gently, "The working conditions at City Hospital can’t compare to those abroad."

Song Xin, holding a foreign diploma and with an outstanding employnt history overseas, could have chosen any hospital in the country, yet she ca to City Hospital where Gao Chuan worked.

Song Xin’s eyes flickered; she clearly had ulterior motives, yet she couldn’t tell if the man was genuinely clueless or feigning ignorance.

"I’m just being patriotic, that’s all. I was tired of being abroad anyway, so I ca back. Do you have a problem with working here?" Song Xin pouted, pretending to be discontented as she raised her face.

"Not at all," the man replied indifferently, his tone as calm as still water.

Seeing his reaction, Song Xin nodded slowly. She initially thought Gao Chuan would be unhappy about her coming to City Hospital, but now, seeing him so composed, she felt like she was the one being petty about the past.

Looking at Gao Chuan, who had beco silent after the courteous exchange, just like the man of few words he was back then, Song Xin recalled their school days. Smiling, she directly touched his chest without any reservation and asked, "Didn’t my brother say you were stabbed? Where’s the injury?"

Her restless fingers had barely touched the man’s chest when he coldly took her hand away. His dark eyes grew stern as he commanded sharply, "Don’t move."

Song Xin withdrew her hand, seeing his unromantic deanor, and poked fun at him with dissatisfaction, "Fine, fine, as if anyone wants to touch you."

After all, Song Xin was a young lady from a wealthy family, pampered by her household since childhood, and with Song Li, her brother, to cover for her when she did wrong, resulting in her spoiled nature. Growing up, her beauty attracted countless admirers. Perhaps the only one she would eagerly chase without reciprocal affection was Gao Chuan.

Even now, she couldn’t understand why, back then, the whole world was matchmaking her and Gao Chuan, claiming they were a perfect match. It seed as though getting the man was a natural and expected outco.

But Gao Chuan never showed a hint of affection for her, not a word of entreaty to stay after their cold war and parting ways.

However, how could she give up so easily on the person she was determined to be with?

Song Xin raised her eyes and stared intently at the man sitting silently on the bed, suddenly feeling as if, despite the years that had gone by, nothing had changed.

What’s hers will always be hers.

So, Gao Chuan, I’m back.

"Alright, old classmate, we’re colleagues now. Let’s take care of each other," said Song Xin, unable to sit still any longer upon noticing Gao Chuan’s silent temperant, and thinking about the stack of hospital onboarding paperwork she had to deal with. She picked up her bag from the table, got ready to leave, and smiled at the person on the hospital bed: "I’ll be going now, see you around."

Gao Chuan responded with a cold "Hmm," watching her silhouette gradually disappear from the doorway of the ward, feeling an inexplicable irritation in his heart.
