Chapter 123: Assisting in Keeping a Secret
The hospital incident caused quite a stir at the hospital, with the patient’s family mbers who instigated the trouble being taken away by the police. Gao Chuan sustained his injuries from rushing to the scene from the side, although not very deep, he still needed to stay in the hospital for further examination.
In the afternoon, the hospital’s administration held an ergency eting regarding the incident, planning to comnd Gao Chuan for his life-saving actions. The dean personally visited Gao Chuan’s ward along with others, and Gao Chuan, who usually disliked socializing, had to maintain a smiling face until the crowd dispersed, and peace was restored to the ward.
Not much later, he went out for several dical check-ups. Having been a doctor for many years, he had a good estimate of his own injuries. The cuts were not deep, and although they were close to his lower abdon, he managed to dodge quickly so his internal organs were not damaged. He guessed that it would take about half a month to recover completely.
On the WeChat work group, Gao Chuan temporarily transferred so of his patients to other doctors in his departnt, and finally settled down for a sleep after everything was over.
When he woke up, it was almost dark. The man in the patient gown slowly sat up from the bed, the wound still tender and sowhat painful, causing his face to twitch sharply.
His phone chid with several notifications, a ssage from Dr. Bai asking what he wanted to eat for dinner.
Gao Chuan was injured and with the New Year approaching, naturally, he couldn’t let his family worry.
Dr. Bai voluntarily took on the task of looking after Gao Chuan, having been saved by Gao Chuan in a critical mont. He felt an obligation to repay this life-saving grace.
Dr. Bai: "My mom made pork rib soup, I’ll bring it over in a bit."
Gao Chuan saw it and typed back a ssage.
Gao Chuan: "The bone isn’t affected."
Dr. Bai: "Still, you need to nourish yourself. Wait for , I’ll co by after work."
Dr. Bai had been taken to make a deposition in the afternoon because of the morning’s incident and had a pile of patient issues to attend to. Now, having almost finished, he just retrieved the pork rib soup sent by his family when he received Gao Chuan’s reply.
Gao Chuan: "Let Jiang An bring it over."
Dr. Bai: "..."
When the workday ended, Jiang An was still dealing with unfinished tasks in her office when she heard soone knocking and called out "Co in."
It was Dr. Bai peeking through the door. After observing that Jiang An was alone in the office, he walked in relieved. Jiang An looked up, seeing him holding a thermos food container and rembered the awkward mont in the ward at noon. Curious how Gao Chuan later explained to Dr. Bai as she watched his sneaky deanor, she called out tentatively, "Dr. Bai?"
Dr. Bai set the food container on the table in front of her and after learning that Jiang An and Gao Chuan were married, he looked at her differently, "This is the soup my family made for Lao Gao, bring it to him after your work."
Seeing the young girl’s bashful expression, Dr. Bai smirked discreetly. Had he not witnessed those two personally, he would never have linked these two individuals together.
To him, they just weren’t suited for each other.
"You sure kept it quiet, young lady, snagging the departnt’s most coveted bachelor," he remarked, sizing up Jiang An who seed still like a university student despite her internship.
Listening to Dr. Bai’s teasing, Jiang An bashfully looked down, thinking Dr. Gao must have told Dr. Bai about their relationship.
Before Jiang An could respond, Dr. Bai spoke up, "Don’t worry, Lao Gao has inford . I’ll keep your secret. Otherwise, he’d kill ."
Thinking about it, the young couple had not had it easy, hiding their relationship for almost two months, and no one in the departnt noticed. Ironically, he had initially thought about pairing Jiang An with Ren Lin.
Recalling the mont Gao Chuan stern-faced, Dr. Bai realized the truth.
"Thank you, Dr. Bai." Hearing his reassurance, Jiang An felt a weight lift off her shoulders.
However, she couldn’t help but think about the future awkwardness she might face seeing Dr. Bai in the departnt regularly.
"Alright, hurry over after you finish up, Lao Gao is waiting for you!" Dr. Bai raised his eyebrows, giving one last reminder before leisurely walking out of the office.
Jiang An glanced at the food container on the table, finishing up the last of her paperwork, and hurried off to Dr. Gao’s ward.
On the way, she recalled what Gao Chuan had told her earlier that day.
"It’s my first ti in a relationship; I’m bound to fall short."
"Mrs. Gao, I look forward to your guidance in the future."
"It’s not that I don’t want to touch you, but I’m scared, scared that you might not accept it for the mont."
Jiang An looked at the food container in her hands, feeling unexpectedly foolish. After such a lengthy cold war, Dr. Gao managed to mollify her with just a few simple words, and she had weakly given in without a fight.
In Dr. Gao’s eyes, she probably looked both ridiculous and funny when she was angry, Jiang An thought.
Upon entering Gao Chuan’s hospital room, she found Song Li there as well, who brightened up when he saw Jiang An entering, "Here cos the sister-in-law."
Jiang An hadn’t expected Song Li to be there and politely nodded, observing the two apparently discussing so docunts, and placed the food container on a nearby table.
"You guys talk; I’ll step out to get you]")]
so fruit." Though Song Li verbally brushed it off, Jiang An still opted to excuse herself.
Gao Chuan nodded in agreent, and as the girl left the ward, he and Song Li resud discussing the contract, finalizing a few points before wrapping up. Song Li gathered his docunts back into his file bag, "Talking about taking it easy during the holidays, you really know how to do it by getting injured."
"Don’t let the news leak." Gao Chuan sat on the hospital bed, his face stern as he commanded.
Song Li understood his usual dislike of worrying his family and nodded, "By the way, Song Xin is coming back to join your hospital."
The man, who was sipping water, paused shortly upon hearing Song Li’s words but remained calm, simply acknowledging with a quiet "Hmm."
Seeing his indifferent look, as if the matter didn’t concern him, Song Li felt a spark of irritation, thinking that Gao Chuan genuinely didn’t care about his sister, even when she was coming right under his nose.
"When are you being discharged?" Song Li changed the subject.
Gao Chuan put down his cup, "Probably after the New Year."
"Alright, I’ll co see you again then." Song Li began to pack up, preparing to leave.
Gao Chuan’s lips quivered slightly: "No need."
Song Li: "..."
