"I had Carl swing by to pick up, got a little situation to tidy up at the office. Soone else will fly the jet back," Roo said, slipping Rosemary’s hand into the deep pocket of his coat to shield it from the
biting cold.
"Alright," Rosemary replied, escorting him to the front porch just as Carl’s car rolled up to the curb.
"Ms. Rose," Carl greeted her as he stepped out of the car, holding the door open for Roo.
"Be careful with that arm of yours, don’t bump it again," Roo couldn’t help but add another word of caution, "Rember to change the dressing, and don’t sleep on it."
"Got it."
"I’ll call you when I’m done."
Roo bent down, planting a gentle kiss on her lips and giving her hair a tender stroke before he climbed into the car and drove away.
As Rosemary watched the car disappear into the distance, her phone buzzed—it was a call from her subordinate.
"Boss, when are you planning the annual eting for Luna Capital that Mr. Rollins left in your hands?
Everyone’s asking about it."
The New Year was around the corner, and though he knew his boss was up to her neck in work, there were still reports he needed to deliver.
"I’ll check my schedule and get back to you."
Rosemary had her hands full with designing dresses for the princess, who was hoping to wear them in the next couple of days, but so materials were still missing.
And there were other matters to attend to.
"Sure thing."
With the call ended, Rosemary turned to head inside when she heard her na called out.
"Rosemary??"
Sean’s surprise and delight were evident in his voice as he stepped out of his car, rushing over to his sister without a care for the wound that might just have stretched.
Steward, sharing in the joy of Ms. Rose’s return, followed closely behind Sean.
Ms. Rose was finally ho!
And she had run into Sean at last!
Rosemary’s delicate brows furrowed slightly at the sight of them.
So, Sean had been digging around for her—knowing not only her na but also where she lived.
Did he really chase her all the way to her doorstep over an island?
Was it that serious?
"Um." Sean, upon seeing his sister, beca so excited he could barely string his words together,
"Maybe we should go inside to talk?"
Rosemary’s frown deepened. Were they that close? Just because he’d saved her in that abandoned building didn’t an he could co over for tea.
"No need, we can talk right here," Rosemary’s tone remained frosty, "Do you want your island back? Or are you looking to hike up the price?"
"No, no. neither. The island is yours, I’ll transfer the five million back to your account, and I’ll give you an additional five million for. you know, candy or whatever."
Such generosity?
What was he playing at?
Rosemary eyed him with suspicion and wariness, her voice cold as she asked, "So, what’s the catch?"
"Actually, I’m your long-lost brother. I know this must co as a shock."
Ah, so he’d co to her doorstep pretending to be her brother?
Rosemary’s lips curled into a disbelieving smile, "And then what?"
"Let’s just call it even on the previous debt, okay?"
"And after it’s squared?"
Sean could tell his sister was in a sour mood, probably still stewing over the breakup with Timothy. She was clearly not in the best of spirits.
What to do?
How to cheer her up?
His eyes flit to Steward, who was clueless for ideas. Ms. Rose was sure to be holding a grudge, especially after Sean had threatened to skin her alive and leave her out at the mountain. How could he possibly make her forget all that and sidestep the issue in such a short ti.
That’s it!
There was another connection between Sean and Ms. Rose – Ophelia Almond!
With this thought, Steward gave Sean a knowing look, as if he had just concocted the perfect plan.
Complinting Ms. Rose’s good friend, and throwing in so praises for Ms. Rose herself, ought to do the trick, right?
Rosemary, noticing their covert exchange of glances, was even more convinced they were up to no good.
Catching onto Steward’s silent cues, Sean turned to his sister and asked, "You know Ophelia, right?"
He was about to sing Ophelia’s praises, and by extension, celebrate how all the excellent people she knew were just like her.
But Rosemary’s expression turned even icier as she cut through his intentions, "You’re after my friend? With your reputation for being a womanizer, fickle-hearted, leaving kids in a bind, allowing your crew to harass other team’s female mbers, gouging prices, selling an island for billions to different buyers, tossing people onto the mountain on a whim, and threatening to skin people alive. Stay away from my friend!"
Sean was left dumbfounded, his smile freezing on his face. Was this really how he appeared in his sister’s eyes?
Without another word, Rosemary spun on her heel and walked away, but not before instructing the doorman, "Keep an eye out. If either of them tries to co in, you have my permission to lay them out."
The doorman was shocked. This was the first ti anyone had disrespected Sean to his face, not just disrespecting but leaving him out in the cold.
After all these years, who had the guts to give Sean the cold shoulder?
Let alone chew him out.
No wonder Sean was a ss on the outside; it was no surprise that Ms. Rose was upset.
Wait, no, he didn’t hear anything. What Sean was like outside, he had no idea.
With that, he shrugged his shoulders and spread his hands in a gesture of helplessness towards Sean and Steward.
Tough luck, but with Ms. Rose being the family’s darling, he didn’t dare cross her. If she said they couldn’t co in, he’d rather die than leave his post.
Steward, too, was staggered by Rosemary’s tirade and after a mont turned to Sean, swallowing hard,
"Sean, your image in your sister’s eyes seems pretty tarnished."
"Shut it," Sean snapped back, irritated. "You think you’re any better?"
Just now his sister had made it clear – neither of them was welco. Both ant him and Steward!
"It’s all because of your terrible idea. Now she’s even more upset," Sean grumbled, standing outside his own ho, wanting to go in but afraid of angering his sister. He glanced at the doorman, who quickly ducked into the security booth, not daring to open the door for him.
Damn!
He didn’t even want to go in. Even if the door was wide open, would he dare step inside?
Was the doorman seriously this scared? Hiding in the booth like a coward. And he was supposed to protect their ho?
"Sean, maybe you should sit down for a bit." Steward suggested as he pulled a folding camping chair out of the trunk, set it up, and placed it by the door. "It’s freezing out here, and your injury hasn’t
healed."
"Just get rid of it," Sean growled, more agitated than before. "If my sister wants to stand, do you think I could sit? Trying to get into more trouble? Are you asking for a smack?"
If Rosemary saw him lounging comfortably in that chair from inside the house, she’d probably be even more infuriated.
