"I haven’t asked who the hero who saved you is." Roo’s eyes twinkled as he glanced at the passenger seat.

"My na is Gordon. I’m Mr. Bard’s servant, tasked with ensuring Ms. Rose’s safety."

"Gordon," Roo repeated his na. "You risked your life today to protect my fiancée. I appreciate that. You must co to our wedding feast."

Gordon was speechless.

"I’ll have an invitation sent to you."

At this, Rosemary jabbed him with her elbow, her eyes flashing a warning. Would he ever drop it?

"Thank you for the invitation, Mr. Roo. I’ll be there on ti. I wish you and Ms. Rose a lifeti of happiness and unity in advance."

"Thank you," Roo said, turning to the girl in his arms.

She seed used to his childishness and jealousy, not bothering to entertain him, and handed the pill bottle in her pocket to the man in the passenger seat.

"Take it twice a day. You can stop after three days."

Gordon was taken aback, his eyes dimming again in gratitude. "Thank you, Ms. Rose."

The rain was heavy just now. Rosemary’s hoodie was slightly wet. Roo took out a tissue to wipe it off for her and draped a blanket from the car over her.

This blanket was specially prepared for Rosemary.

"Sleep on for a while. We’re not there yet." Roo volunteered to be her pillow, allowing the girl to adjust herself comfortably.

"I’ll stay in Dawnstar for a few more days this ti. Call if you need anything."

"Mm." Rosemary responded lazily.

"Let know if there are places you want to visit or food you want to try."

"Mhm. Did you have to fight a lot just now? Is your hand sore? Let massage it for you," Roo offered again.

Listening to their conversation, Gordon felt even more bitter.

His love seed to have co and gone.

Half an hour later

The car stopped at the entrance of the mansion. Roo got out of the car, holding an umbrella for Rosemary.

"You should rest early. I’ll co see you tomorrow when I have ti."

"Okay."

Although Roo was reluctant to leave, he handed the umbrella over to her.

Watching her and Gordon each holding an umbrella and walking into the mansion, Roo stood for a while before getting into the car to leave.

Inside the mansion

Bard was sitting on the sofa, looking up with a gentle gaze as his niece returned.

"Rose, Carl just brought Elliot and his n here. He told you’re dating Roo from the McMillian family, and he ran all the way from Solterra for you and helped you catch these guys."

"Yes." Rosemary was surprised that Carl had arrived before they did.

Bard motioned for his niece to sit down, asking gently, "When did you two get together? Your mother never ntioned it."

Rosemary answered honestly, "Not long after I returned to the Collins family."

"So, the engagent is no longer with Serena?"

"It’s with ."

Bard nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "To have Roo stand up for you and co all this way on your behalf—it just goes to show how deep your bond is."

Off to the side, Gordon’s eyes dimd with a tinge of jealousy. The car ride earlier nearly suffocated him with their display of affection.

"Besides this, how has he been treating you in private?" Bard inquired, peering at his niece with concern.

He had heard a thing or two about Roo’s reputation and worried that his innocent and kind-hearted niece might be at a disadvantage.

"Like, does he treat you differently than others? Is he loyal to you? Can he resist temptations from the outside world? Does he take extra care of you in daily life? Is he willing to change for you? Can he sense your moods and provide the utmost understanding and share your troubles?"

"He does all of that," Rosemary assured with conviction, surprising her uncle a bit.

"He not only invests emotionally, but he also goes out of his way to support my career. He takes care of the smallest details in our life, always puts first, and strives to be the best—not wanting to disappoint . He gives a sense of security and wants to be by my side, no matter the circumstance."

Bard hadn’t expected his niece to hold Roo in such high regard. It seed the two were truly devoted to each other.

He chuckled. "This is the first ti I’ve heard you praise soone like this. It looks like he’s doing a great job. I can rest easy now. Once all this ss is over, bring him over to the house, and we’ll properly thank him."

"And please, Uncle Bard, don’t forget about Gordon. He got hurt earlier trying to protect ."

Gordon, overhearing the ntion of his na, felt an unexpected flutter in his heart.

"Are you injured?" Bard turned his attention to Gordon, now understanding why he’d looked pale and under the weather since arriving.

"It’s nothing serious, sir. Ms. Rose has already treated it, and Mr. Roo helped too," Gordon reassured.

"You should go back and rest."

"Sir, we still haven’t gotten to the bottom of Mr. Elliot’s case."

"That can wait. Let him stew for a bit longer."

Bard intended to make Mr. Elliot sweat.

"Go on back. Rose and I have more to discuss."

Once Gordon had excused himself, Bard had Rosemary sip so hot tea before they went down to the basent to confront Mr. Elliot.

In the basent

Seeing them approach, Mr. Elliot struggled desperately. "Sir, please, I beg you to spare my family. I’ll tell you everything I know!"

Soone brought over a chair for Bard, and he sat down, expressionless, as he questioned the captive.

"Do you rember, a few years back, sa kind of weather. We were on a business trip to the Gatlin Mountains, and we were ambushed. You risked your life to save . Was that deliberate, or did you genuinely want to save ?"

Mr. Elliot, tears streaming down, admitted with sha, "Back then, I indeed wanted to earn your trust."

"So, every ti you ’saved’ , every task you did on my behalf—was it all just to deliver a fatal blow when the ti was right?"

"I was just following orders. Sir, I confess. It was who placed Bowen, Arthur, and those four maids inside the house to seize the opportunity to kill Mr. Darren and you. It was Alexander of Mafia Rock who ordered to do it!"

Bard remained silent, his thoughts unreadable.

"Sir, I have a secret, worth the lives of my entire family. You’ll definitely want to know this secret! It’s about your wife."

At the ntion of his wife, Bard’s gaze sharpened.

"Let my family go, and I’ll tell you everything I know, including where your wife is!"

Bard’s emotions roiled. Could it be possible that his wife was still alive?

How could that be?

"You better start talking," one of Bard’s n threatened, gripping Mr. Elliot’s throat tighter.

Mr. Elliot, bound by ropes, was nearly gasping for air.
