Just then, a rattling noise echoed through the sky.
Everyone looked up to see a fleet of helicopters hovering above them. The masked man at the front narrowed his eyes.
"You dared to call for backup?"
Rosemary glanced up at the sky without much surprise. Roo was quicker than she expected. She had just arrived, and he was already here.
At this mont, Roo was trying to locate Rosemary’s position, instructing his n to avoid the red dot on their radar and focus on the others while dropping flashbangs.
The flashbangs fell one after another, obliterating the people below.
"Your backup doesn’t seem to care about your life," the masked man smirked coldly. "They’re bombing so indiscriminately. Do they intend to send you off to hell as well?"
"You talk too much," Rosemary quickly retaliated, aiming to capture the masked man.
The masked man counterattacked swiftly.
On the helicopter, Roo noticed the red dot moving. He imdiately ordered, "Avoid that area."
She must be trying to capture soone.
He had to help her.
"Land."
"Boss, there are still many people down there. If you go down now—"
Carl’s words were cut off by Roo’s warning gaze. He quickly ordered the ergency landing.
Rosemary and the masked man exchanged a few blows. The masked man chuckled,
"Not many can withstand my moves. If you would work for our organization, you could achieve great things."
"Who cares," Rosemary shot back, landing a direct hit on his shoulder.
As the helicopter touched down, it whipped up a powerful gust of wind.
Rosemary landed another blow on the man’s stomach, pushing him back a couple of steps. He pulled out his cellphone, seemingly planning to order his n to kill the hostages.
Rosemary tried to snatch the phone away. In an instant, the phone was kicked into the air. Both of them reached for it, but it fell into soone else’s hands.
Rosemary looked up to see Roo. He had caught the phone and pulled her behind him.
The masked man looked up at the unexpected man.
"It’s you again."
Were these two a couple?
They did seem well-matched.
But wasn’t this girl the woman of the leader of Mafia Fla?
Why was it always the leader of Mafia C who ca to her aid when she was in danger?
Rosemary and Roo attacked together, quickly overpowering him and knocking him out.
"Are you hurt?" Roo gazed at Rosemary as he gently tousled her hair.
"I’m fine. Give the phone."
She needed to find out where Joyce and Mavis were.
The masked man’s phone was locked. Rosemary cracked it and, imitating his tone, sent a ssage to his subordinates:
[Send a picture over. That girl doesn’t believe her friends are safe.]
A picture soon arrived. It was taken by a lake. Joyce and Mavis were tied up with ropes, which were attached to large rocks, indicating they could be thrown into the lake at any mont.
[Bring them here,] Rosemary ordered.
The reply ca:
[Give the code.]
Code??
Rosemary found herself puzzled. She skimd through their past conversations but couldn’t find any agreed-upon secret code. Could it be that they had arranged it privately without her knowing?
[Please state the code,] the stranger sent another ssage.
Rosemary suspected that they might have sensed her confusion. She handed the photo to Roo.
"Can you figure out where this place is?"
"Let see." Roo took her phone. The photo captured a lakeside setting, with no other significant clues except for a single pink callia.
Using an app developed by his company, he managed to narrow down the location to Sumrfield.
After he searched for similar sites, a few potential matches appeared on the screen.
"These two locations are too far. From Sumrfield College, it would take at least two hours to reach, so we can rule them out," Rosemary analyzed.
"Of the remaining three, two have callias. Where could Joyce and Mavis be?"
It was hard to tell.
"We should get on the plane first," Roo said, taking her hand, leaving the masked man for Carl to handle.
anwhile, on the other side.
The henchn waited but received no code from the masked man.
Suspecting that he might be in danger, they decided to stick to the original plan and brought Joyce and Mavis to the lakeside.
Tied up and dragging stones, the girls struggled to move, constantly stumbling and falling.
With a shaky voice, Mavis pleaded,
"Sir, we have no grudges against each other. Why are you doing this? If it’s money you want, I can call my family for a ransom of $1,000."
Joyce was also scared.
"If we’re to die, at least let us know why. Where have we offended you, or what is it that you want? At least tell us."
The masked n ignored them, pulling them up and forcefully pushing them forward each ti they fell.
"Ouch." Mavis fell again, her knee grazed by the stones. Another masked man roughly pulled her up.
Although her arms and legs were bound, Mavis instinctively clung onto the man’s clothes.
"Please, tell us the truth before we die. Is soone ordering you to do this? Who is it? We’re about to die—we won’t be able to hold anyone accountable. Just tell us."
No matter how Joyce and Mavis pleaded, the n remained silent.
Mavis was dragged to the lakeside, despite her struggles.
"Let go!"
Joyce darted forward and knocked the man aside.
"Mavis, don’t be scared!"
"Joyce, I don’t want to die," Mavis sobbed. But then, a sound echoed from the sky.
The noise startled the masked n. They looked up to see a helicopter.
Could it be a rescue team?
The system on the helicopter quickly detected seven or eight figures on the ground, indicating the presence of people.
"Could it be soone here to rescue us?" Mavis didn’t care anymore and scread at the top of her lungs,
"Help! Please, help us!"
Her cries were drowned out by the noise from the helicopter, but it reminded the masked n that they were running out of ti.
As the helicopter was about to land, the strong wind forced the n to shield their eyes. The wind was too strong, and the noise was deafening.
One of the masked n picked up Mavis’ stone, ready to throw it into the lake.
"No!" Joyce quickly got up and knocked him down.
He was furious and punched at Joyce, but Mavis saw it and ramd her head into him.
"How dare you hit my friend! I’ll kill you!"
Seeing the girls beco more and more defiant, the masked n threw their stones into the lake.
Mavis and Joyce were imdiately dragged into the water by the weight of the stones.
