The plane was already idling outside.
Jack, flanked by his crew, Joyce, looked at the boss with reluctance.
"Boss, we’ll co find you in a few days. Take care of yourself back ho, and if you need anything, don’t hesitate to call us."
"Yeah, boss. My phone will be on 24/7, ready to serve. If there’s any danger in the future, don’t bear it alone. Think of us first," Jones instructed.
"Jack, Jones, you guys look so worried. Boss, you need to take care of yourself. Don’t let yourself get hurt anymore," Tom advised, his eyes filled with concern too.
Rosemary’s eyes softened. "I understand."
"Goodbye, Boss."
"Mr. McMillian, take good care of our boss."
"Our boss is just a delicate young lady who needs to be looked after. We’re counting on you, Mr. McMillian."
"Don’t worry, I will," Roo nodded at them, then carried Rosemary up the airplane staircase.
anwhile, Clark was struggling to carry Carol.
"Why don’t you put down?" Carol saw his pained expression, guessing that he might have hurt himself. She firmly said, "Let down. I can walk."
"Don’t move, you’ll hurt ."
Carol obediently stopped wriggling, only looking at him with concern. "Are you sure you can do this?"
"Are you doubting ? You haven’t seen what I’m capable of."
Carol suspected he was boasting, but she had no evidence.
Clark, satisfied, carried her up the airplane staircase step by step.
"If I weren’t injured, not to ntion one of you, I could carry two."
"Do you want two?"
"I was just making a point, not what you’re thinking," Clark hurriedly explained.
Next.
The plane door closed, and Joyce and the crew watched the plane fly away with reluctance. Jack suddenly remarked,
"Doesn’t our boss seem like she’s visiting her family and then returning to her husband’s house?"
"What the hell are you thinking about every day?" Jones smacked him on the back of his head.
"They’re far away now. Why are you still watching?"
"Boss didn’t have this many problems when she was with us. Ever since she recognized her roots, there have been so many issues."
"That’s not entirely true. Before, all the money the boss made went into the Harris family’s pocket, even cleaning up their sses. In comparison, I prefer the Collins family."
"Isn’t that obvious? Comparing animals with humans?"
On the plane, Roo carried Rosemary into a room to rest.
Due to her injuries, Rosemary was ntally and physically exhausted.
anwhile, Clark discussed with the girl in his arms,
"When we go back, do you and your brother want to stay at my place?"
He owned several private villas—so overlooking the mountains, so with a sea view, so in the bustling city center, and so in quiet suburbs.
"No need," Carol declined.
She was worried that it would give the Collins family the wrong impression.
"If you’re uncomfortable living in a house under my na, I can change it to yours." Clark played with her hand.
"In any case, I must live with you. Different rooms, different floors, as long as I can take care of you."
"With your current situation, the poison might act up at any ti. Your brother has other things to take care of, and he can’t watch over you every second. It’s better to have soone at ho with you." Clark added,
"If it’s left to the staff, I won’t feel assured."
Carol had been pestered by him for quite a while, ultimately surrendering to his persistence with a weary sigh.
anwhile.
Serena dragged Louisa to the shopping mall. Her mood finally improved after swiping her card for about a million dollars.
Clasping her mother’s hand fondly, she cooed,
"Mom, you’re the best! You bought so many things. Even though I’m not your biological child, you treat so well."
Serena had used the excuse of not knowing what to wear or accessorize with for her date with Martin—as if everything in her wardrobe was not fancy or mature enough.
So, Louisa took her on a shopping spree.
"Mom, I’m so lucky to be your child." Serena clung to Louisa’s hand, standing at the mall entrance, waiting for their chauffeur to pull up with the car.
"Does Martin’s family know about your relationship?" Louisa inquired.
"Yeah, he’s already told his family. They were pleased to hear about the Collins family and thought they were punching above their weight. They’re even pushing Martin to co over for dinner. He’s also very eager, and he’s ntioned it to several tis."
Serena lowered her head, feigning a shy smile.
"I had been stalling him before, but he’s been treating better and better."
"Why don’t you invite him over so your dad and I could have a proper chat with him?" Louisa’s face lit up with affectionate laughter.
"You’re growing up. It’s about ti you had a boyfriend. Once your relationship gets more stable, you could consider getting engaged."
This warm smile was like a thorn in Serena’s heart, piercing her brutally.
Previously, her betrothed was Roo, but now it had switched to a lad from the Cooper family.
Was this enough to satisfy Louisa? To make her happy?
In Louisa’s eyes, was her biological daughter, Rosemary, the only one worthy of Roo, and her adopted daughter, Serena, only deserved a young master from the Cooper family?
"If you get engaged, the Collins family will surely put on a grand celebration for you." Louisa’s face bead with indulgence.
Serena forced a smile onto her face.
"Mom, our car’s here."
She didn’t want to continue this conversation.
As the chauffeur held the door open for them, seeing the joy on Louisa’s face, he couldn’t help but ask,
"Madam, what’s making you so happy?"
"Serena’s found a good match. Wasn’t that a reason to be happy?"
The chauffeur glanced at Serena.
"Congratulations, Serena."
Yeah, right.
Congratulations, my foot!
What a good match!
Martin was miles behind Roo in comparison.
Serena was disgruntled internally, but she managed to maintain her poise, smiling gracefully.
"Thank you."
Just then, Louisa received a call.
"Clark? You’re on your way back? Oh? Are you staying at your place? Is it because of work? Alright, okay. So, is Rose going back to school directly? Alright, I’ll call her later, ask her when she’s coming back. I need to discuss sothing with her, okay."
Upon hearing this, Serena thought, Clark’s back? Why wasn’t he coming ho? Was he intentionally avoiding her?
Was he reneging on his promise to take her abroad?
Or was he planning to show Rosemary his private villa?
It must be Rosemary speaking ill of her to Clark again!
Damn it!
As soon as Louisa hung up, Serena couldn’t help but ask,
"Mom, isn’t Clark coming ho? I picked out a belt for him, thinking of giving it to him when he’s back."
"He’s got so work, won’t be coming ho for a while. Crystal keeps coming over now and then. I need to ask Clark if he’s interested or not. If not, we can’t keep a good girl like her hanging."
