Rumble rumble!
The motorcycle engine roared fiercely as the throttle was twisted to the max.
Sera Masumi followed Conan's instructions, putting all her strength into driving the motorcycle through the narrow alleys of Tokyo's port district.
"He stopped!"
Sitting behind on the motorcycle, Conan adjusted his glasses, focusing his right eye on the blinking red dot on the lens.
Right after the sniper incident, he had rushed down from the Suzuki Tower using Dr. Agasa's electric skateboard to pursue.
Though he briefly closed in on the sniper escaping on a motorcycle, the sniper quickly lost him... Fortunately, Sera Masumi on her motorcycle appeared just in ti, picking up Conan and helping him track the target.
The police also arrived in ti.
The Suzuki Tower's construction was a major achievent for Tokyo, so plenty of police officers were stationed around for the opening ceremony. Upon receiving the alert, the police acted imdiately.
Using road surveillance, they quickly deployed forces and blocked intersections to cut off the sniper's escape.
Unexpectedly, the sniper acted decisively — tossing a grenade that blew the police away in chaos.
Using the wrecked police car as a springboard, he perford what looked like a high-altitude stunt and escaped the scene.
Conan seized the mont when the sniper passed near them to attach a tracker to the motorcycle.
The two pursued the sniper all the way to a deserted corner near the port.
Unaware he was being tracked, the sniper, still wearing his cycling helt, packed his gear into a van, intending to switch vehicles to flee.
But engine sounds from afar imdiately put him on alert.
After Sera Masumi and Conan followed the tracker's signal to where it stopped moving, they found only a lone motorcycle parked there.
"He's gone. Did he start going on foot from here?"
"Maybe. Anyway… be careful—!"
Conan echoed Serra's warning, but before he finished, he noticed a faint glint of cold light around a container corner ahead.
A needle-sharp sense of danger stabbed him.
At the instant flas burst from the corner, his heart stopped in violent shock.
A bullet struck Sera Masumi's cycling helt on the head, causing her head to snap back violently as the impact knocked her to the ground.
Conan fell with her.
Rising up, Conan looked at the fallen Sera in alarm, but seeing only a dent on her helt where the bullet seed to have glanced off, he sighed in relief.
But when he noticed the sniper carefully approaching with his gun, his face drained of color.
E... this is how I'm going to get killed—!
Rumble rumble!
As the sniper ca in front of Conan, aiming the gun at his head, the sudden roar of a car engine sounded nearby.
A black car screeched around the corner and sped toward them.
Carl and Jodie appeared out of nowhere and fired to force the sniper back.
However, the gunfight accidentally triggered an explosion in a vehicle, and the sniper used the chaos as cover to jump into the sea and escape.
"No way, he got away..."
Jodie shook her head as she looked at the calm sea surface.
"There's nothing we can do now. Let the Japanese police handle the rest," Jas Black said.
"Alright, I'll have them start a search around the bay shore imdiately."
Watching Jas Black's face, Jodie showed no obvious reaction outwardly.
Though shaken by the diary's revelations and subconsciously suspicious of Jas, she had grown.
Especially after realizing "Shuichi Akai doesn't think she can hide anything from Jas, so he excluded her," she seed to have matured overnight.
At least now she knew how to keep all thoughts locked away without letting any slip.
Pressing her small lips tightly, as if still tasting the minty freshness she encountered twenty minutes ago...
Pervert...
Loli lover...
Suppressing the excitent and fluttering from her tiny chest, Ai Haibara muttered these words bitterly under her breath, but couldn't help but smile faintly.
Ayumi noticed Ai's smile and tilted her head curiously:
"Looks like Ai's in a better mood now."
"Oh, really?"
"She seed so mad when she saw Yoshiki-kun earlier."
Ayumi said this, then suddenly leaned in seriously toward Ai:
"Could it be that you pretended to sulk just to get Yoshiki-kun's attention today?!"
"W-What are you talking about?"
Looking at her so seriously, Ai couldn't help but laugh and cry at the sa ti.
Nearby, Mitsuhiko Tsurumi and Genta Kojima couldn't hold back and spoke up:
"Where are we going next?"
"Yeah, we could have had a big feast... and Conan disappeared too."
"Since all this happened, I think we should just go back and play my new ga."
Dr. Agasa, driving, listened to the kids' complaints and gave a helpless smile.
The assassination incident at Suzuki Tower required witness statents, but no need for the kids to get involved.
That's a headache for Mr. Hayashi and Shinichi to deal with.
anwhile,
Hayashi Yoshiki was driving toward the police headquarters when he got a call from Amuro Tōru.
"Boss, did your mouth just get blessed or what?"
Apparently, he knew about the incident at Suzuki Tower.
"Rather than saying my mouth got blessed, it's more like they brought sothing unclean into their house."
[...]
Thinking about how recently they visited Mōri Kogorō, only to have soone show up with guns and bombs, Amuro Tōru fell silent.
...One or two tis could be a coincidence, but if this keeps happening, maybe the Boss should just stay away from them.
"Co here."
Sitting in the passenger seat, still clueless about being wrongfully suspected, Mōri Kogorō looked around in confusion.
Since Hayashi Yoshiki didn't ntion any nas, Sonoko Suzuki, sitting in the back with Ran, didn't realize she'd been indirectly called out.
She didn't even care that a murder had happened at her family's property on the opening day and was happily chatting with Ran about skincare products.
"Oh, is that mint-flavored lip balm good?"
"Yeah, I've been using it all along."
Faced with her friend's question, Ran smiled warmly with a playful expression, her lips shiny and moist from applying the balm:
"It feels cool in sumr. I think this is better to use."
"That makes sense."
Sonoko nodded in agreent.
