Chapter 906: Chapter 99: Flowing Cat
The light of the oil lamp cast outside the door, forming a boundary between light and dark.
Lu Li quietly stared into its eyes, his tall and slim figure slightly leaning forward as if about to step out.
A shaky outline suddenly rushed past Lu Li, heading outside.
The silence was broken by La Burn. His bark-like, aged face was filled with piety, as he approached the door step by step.
Lu Li reached out to hold him back, speaking calmly under the na of reason: “Outside is the mist.”
“You don’t understand anything!”
La Burn shook off Lu Li, his frail body suddenly bursting with great strength, discarding his cane, and charged into the mist like the most devoted of zealous believers.
Crossing the boundary of light and dark, La Burn’s figure rged into the dark mist, and even his footsteps disappeared.
The street returned to dead silence.
The black cat still squatted there, with no mist obstructing its presence.
Strange whispers swirled in the mist, seeming to also flow around it.
Was it the Flowing Cat, or a naless entity in the Mist of Strangeness that lured life?
“The things in the mist heard the exchange, deceiving you.” The Evildoers, who dealt with the supernatural, spoke.
“rchant.” Lu Li whispered.
“I don’t know.”
Regarding the Weird Tis, the rchant knew no more than Lu Li.
“Why doesn’t it co in?” Lu Li gazed at the “Flowing Cat”. It neither entered nor disappeared.
“The things in the mist dislike light, as well as ancient symbols.” The Evildoers didn’t hold back their answers this ti.
The walls of the house were engraved and painted with ancient symbols, and perhaps one or more of them had luckily taken effect.
Or rather, a house with false ancient symbols wouldn’t be inhabited—because it couldn’t protect anyone.
After nightfall, half the houses in Vig Town didn’t light up.

After a few minutes of standoff or waiting for prey, the cat in the mist let out a cry, rose up, and vanished down the narrow street frad by the door.
The mist once again occupied that place.
Lu Li stepped forward to close the door, but Puxiu ran faster behind it, lifted both front paws, and slowly pushed the door shut.
The outside world was blocked by the wooden door, and even the oil lamp inside seed to glow brighter.
Click.
Lu Li latched the door and retreated to the center of the room.
The environnt in La Burn’s room wasn’t good, but just in case, they didn’t leave in the Mist of Strangeness, choosing instead to stay here for the night.
As for his death, it didn’t affect them much; death was common in the Weird Tis, happening every second, especially since La Burn had rushed out voluntarily.
Even Puxiu said nothing.
“Is there sothing in the mist that can understand our conversation?” Lu Li asked.
“Why not? They are stronger than us, smarter than us.” The pits on the Evildoers’ face cracked open, hard to tell if they were a mouth or a nose.
Katerina looked at Lu Li: “Did you get what you wanted?”
“Almost.”
“Closer to ‘maybe’ or the answer?” Many things weren’t skills Katerina could learn in her brief noble life.
“Almost.” The literate Puxiu replied.
The Cat of Hillevig and the Flowing Cat were confird by Lu Li to be the sa black cat from twenty-four years ago belonging to him and Anna, and even when it was the Cat of Hillevig, Anna’s shadow was faintly present behind it.
But that was twenty-four years ago, and all the stories about the Cat of Hillevig and the Flowing Cat thereafter were devoid of Anna’s aura, rely tales of a divine cat in the Hillevig Mountain Range.
It was unclear whether she truly did not exist or if traces about her were erased by the Flowing Cat’s believers.
“Tomorrow we’ll go to the Flowing Cat’s church.” Lu Li said.
Anna’s clues were on the Flowing Cat.
Fortunately, La Burn, who found Lu Li pleasing, wanted to bring more believers to the church and told them its location, so they could find it after dawn.
“You can sleep there.” Katerina looked around and returned to focusing on the corner bed.
“No need.”
Lu Li pulled out the sofa, took off his black long coat, and placed it on the armrest.
Katerina said nothing, turning toward the pile of disordered clothes emitting a stench she despised on the bed.
A silhouette, drifting like mist, passed over Katerina, lying on the single bed before her.
“Aren’t you supposed to protect us?” Katerina squinted her eyes.
“The Mist of Strangeness is an exception.” The pit on the Evildoers’ face nad as a mouth squird, uttering comprehensible words. “We can’t resist anything that ignores ancient symbols and breaks into the light.”
“At least tidy up.”
Katerina stopped speaking and left the filthy Evildoers and the bed she loathed.
The fire in the fireplace burned weakly, with only a few dry logs left.
Due to previous events, it wasn’t suitable to go out for firewood, so the logs had to be conserved to last until dawn.
Katerina moved another sofa closer to the fireplace, sat in it, and let out a contented sigh.
“Goodnight, Mr. Lu Li, goodnight, Miss Katerina, goodnight, Boss Lady, goodnight, Mr. Evildoer.” Puxiu curled up at Lu Li’s feet.
“Call Boss Lady.” The boss lady in the hood clenched her fist nacingly.
The Mist of Strangeness swirled outside, eerie sounds faintly echoing.
Except for the restless Katerina, who twisted uncomfortably, others, accustod to this, gradually fell into the realm of dreams.
The firewood burned faster than expected, with still two to three hours until dawn; the last flas in the fireplace vanished into the darkened, cracked charcoal.
The sea breeze drifting from the other end of the Hillevig Mountain Range made Vig Town not much warr than Vena Ice-Free Port, with dampness exacerbating the cold, marking the darkest, coldest ti of the day.
Feeling the chill, they had to wrap tighter in their clothes.
The Evildoers seed at ease, unbothered by the dirt, using La Burn’s clothes as a cover.
Puxiu had thick fur; only Katerina, dressed in Hunter Leather Armor, asked Lu Li for a spare coat from the suitcase, but was inexplicably refused.
“She knows and won’t let you go.” Lu Li whispered with closed eyes.
Perhaps Anna was right here and Lu Li needed to keep a distance from everyone.
“Who?”
Katerina received no answer, only able to sullenly cross her arms and curl up on the sofa waiting for dawn.
The night, arduous for Katerina, eventually passed, with the Mist of Strangeness dragging its darkness away, as they left the house.
Lu Li first reported La Burn’s death to a local guardsman—a boy with just a pitchfork and no armor—then proceeded to the church where the Flowing Cat’s congregation gathered, a two-story building originally belonging to the town mayor.
The believers held mass in the first floor hall early, not opposing or repelling outsiders, though communication was still challenging.
“Where can I find it?”
After asking several believers, Lu Li finally received a credible ssage: “Those with sincere faith will naturally behold it.”
After several futile inquiries, Lu Li eventually obtained a credible piece of information.
[To this day, the Flowing Cat still frequently wanders around Old Niss Town, unwilling to leave]
