643: 162.

Conversation 643: 162.

Conversation “The old man didn’t tell .

The na of the deity is a taboo, even if it is already dead.”

“Prada…” Lu Li whispered a term that might have referred to a product, a small town, or perhaps a na…

As the whisper spread, Lu Li felt a faint resonance and connection with the Inverted City above his head, a sensation that was trivial and only produced an illusion-like flicker when associated with it.

“Do you know the na of the Ancient God?” Anna asked, her warm palm slipping into Lu Li’s and quietly intertwining their fingers.

“I’m not sure, maybe it’s related,” Lu Li pondered.

“It was written at the end of the test paper.”

“I don’t know the contents; the test paper was like shrouded in mist, hard to make out clearly.” Anna caressed Lu Li’s palm like a little girl playing with dolls, sharing her experiences with him.

Anna couldn’t peek into the Inverted City above, yet her identity as a wrathful spirit was a form of protection in itself.

At least in the rule-bound ‘paradise,’ the only thing that could harm her there was human.

Like Lu Li, the City Guards assigned Anna an identity: a professor at Xiusi University.

Realizing she couldn’t leave, Anna, filled with concern for Lu Li, went to the university they had visited the day before.

Back then, the layout wasn’t as clear as now, with humans consciously hiding in disguise.

There was chaos and slaughter everywhere, corresponding with the term ‘paradise.’

On the way to Xiusi University, Anna encountered a Demon Hunter clinging to life.

He had seen through the rules from the start and disguised himself, but unfortunately, a foolish aberration engulfed in chaos mistook him for human and attacked.

Despite being among the top Exorcists, he still couldn’t escape the shackles of human frailty and struggled to survive.

Knowledge makes one less extre.

This saying may not always hold true, but it applied to this old man.

The arrival of Anna and her non-aggressive actions led the old man to show goodwill voluntarily, sharing the clues he had analyzed and…

his last words.

“‘Do not fear the darkness of the setting sun; the sun of tomorrow will rise as usual.’ It was like he was warning …” Anna recalled the old man’s strange tone as he breathed his last, as if the words weren’t just referring to the current situation.

The human body endowed Anna with the emotions she had lost—regaining them amplified those feelings, making her more passionate and emotional than when she was alive.

At least the previous wrathful Anna wouldn’t have buried the old man.

After burying the old man, Anna took his Exorcist Badge, a symbol of his identity, to Xiusi University, where Lu Li appeared—but she didn’t recognize him.

“Your appearance, clothes, and voice all belong to soone else…” Anna said gently.

Disguises are reciprocal.

To human eyes, aberrations disguise themselves as humans, and to aberrations, humans appear to change—so even though she knew the na of Lu Li, Anna didn’t acknowledge him, instead she kept her attention on him, like when she offered help in the cafeteria.

The issue with the distribution of the parchnt test papers was what truly made Anna recognize Lu Li—the pot of flowers.

Anna knew Lu Li could make plants grow; she knew.

She told Lu Li the true essence of the test paper that she had sensed, at the cost of part of her power being stripped away, or rather absorbed.

It’s hard to say whether this was good or bad.

The diminished power delayed Anna’s fall into the abyss but also made it harder for her to protect herself and Lu Li—

“How did you recognize ?” Anna asked curiously.

“I can see the city above our heads,” Lu Li replied, looking up at the mist-shrouded Inverted City.

In the reflected city, a figure in a white dress sat beside him.

“The city?” Anna, clinging to Lu Li, looked up but saw only the dense grey mist.

Lu Li shared with Anna the truth about the Inverted City and the actual form of the aberrations.

“Why is it you?” Anna felt a tinge of unease.

Being unique often ant trouble, although the Inverted City allowed Lu Li to distinguish between aberrations and humans.

“Maybe it’s related to human nature,” Lu Li said.

“To whom will the test paper be delivered?”

“To the president’s office.”

The two clues converged on the president of Xiusi University whose identity was unclear.

Was Tristan aware of the truth, or was he only looking to deal with the aberrations rampaging through the academy?

However, one thing was certain: Xiusi University had remained operational, and Tristan’s arrangents had yet to trigger a response.

And Lu Li had to stay in the university until the results were announced.

“Why did you go to the kitchen?”

“Do you still rember Investigator Tristan, he was a cook…”

Lu Li replied to Anna’s question while waiting.

As ti gradually passed, more students who had finished their test papers appeared in the garden, most of them returning to the wooden cottages in the back garden.

“So, what happened to you after you ca in?” Anna asked.

The garden was no longer a suitable place for conversation, so Lu Li, carrying a flowerpot, and Anna went back to the wooden cottage dormitory and entered his own room.

However, Lu Li had overlooked one thing: the strange entity thought he was a Hunter.

Knock, knock, knock—

The knocking on the door was urgent and persistent, accompanied by cries for help.

“Is anyone there?

Please open the door, a monster is chasing —”

Of course, the one crying for help outside the door couldn’t possibly be human.

“You go hide inside, don’t let it see you,” Lu Li pointed to the closet in the corner of the wall.

Anna, who was aware that Lu Li had killed entities a few tis, cooperated and hid, then went to the door to open it.

A young woman stood outside, her hand still in a knocking position.

She withdrew her hand, her face showing an unnatural expression: “Excuse , are you human?

There are monsters in my room, I’m terrified.

Can I hide here with you for a while?

Please…”

“Please co in.”

Lu Li stepped aside to make way.

“I really can’t thank you enough.” It tried to show an expression of joy and relief, but it was struggling to control the complex emotions on its face, which was grotesque and odd as if wearing a fake face.

Thump.

It closed the door, leaving only Lu Li and herself in the room, but the atmosphere had nothing to do with romance.

“How do you think I should thank you?” It approached Lu Li who was continuously backing away, its tone gentle, its face still with a fake smile, but its voice gradually beca chilling: “For instance…

eat you.”

Just then, a cold and sinister aura crept in, freezing its figure.

The entity’s face showed a perfectly tid shock: “You are—”

“I’m not,” Lu Li calmly replied, took out the Spirit-Calling Gun, and pressed it against the entity’s cheek.

The scream was silenced, and ten seconds later, a corpse fell to the ground.

Lu Li put away the Spirit-Calling Gun and pushed the body under the bed to feed the eager withered claws.

Anna softly suggested they continue—with her protection, Lu Li would harvest humanity faster, but he refused.

“Why?” Anna asked, puzzled.

“They ate Tristan.

Killing too many might affect his plan.”

Anna felt sowhat disappointed, but she quickly got over it because entities were everywhere outside, they just needed to be more careful.

It seems the lingering consciousness of the Ancient God wouldn’t mind them helping to “clean the room.”
