Raimy’s Request 345: 202.
Raimy’s Request The abundant rain, the lancholic sky, and the complex emotions that they foster.
These are things that appear on a rainy day.
Pessimists usually choose to sigh and lant in gloomy weather rather than on bright sunny days.
Lu Li is not a pessimist, but the world he sees is even worse than that of a pessimist.
The next morning, the rain hadn’t weakened from the day before at all, and a torrential downpour enveloped the entire city, as if the lead-gray seawater was hiding behind thick clouds.
If it weren’t for the newspaper that arrived a few minutes ago still forecasting rain for next Wednesday, Lu Li would have thought the rainy season had co early.
Thanks to the terrain of Belfast, flooding is almost unseen here, only the rapid water flow rushing along the channels towards the sea.
Anna was cooking in the kitchen, while Lu Li had gone out half an hour beforehand to buy today’s ingredients while the market was still open.
The rchant had not yet arrived; with a “swoosh,” Lu Li set down the newspaper and picked up the envelope lying next to him.
It was signed Raimy & Jimmy, and, counting the ti, it was ti for their letter to arrive.
“Dear Lu Li,”
“We’ve left Shanjiao Town for Himfast.
Shanjiao Town was boring, with nothing but a mountain that had nothing on it.”
“Sothing seed amiss there, they really resisted us outsiders, and I’m sure Jimmy didn’t show his body from the carriage but they still drove us out.”
“Such unfriendly folks…
But don’t worry, rember what I ntioned before, we’re in Himfast now.”
“In the end, we didn’t enter Shanjiao Town, thankfully there were kind townspeople willing to sell us food.
You know, I secretly asked the townspeople if sothing had happened in town, but they seed terrified and ran away, not daring to speak.”
“Anyway, let’s not talk about that town anymore, let’s talk about Himfast.
True to its na as City of Art, you can see people selling their paintings everywhere on the streets, as if everyone here can wield a brush.
I spent just a little money and had an old man draw a portrait for .
However, there’s only one painting and it can’t fit inside an envelope…
we’ll show you when we get to Belfast.”
“Jimmy wanted a portrait too, but he couldn’t co down from the car, doing so would expose him…
It’s really unfortunate, when will people stop being prejudiced against monsters?”
“Writing this, I suddenly recall, the silly Jimmy said he saw you yesterday, how could this be possible, he must be confused again, mistaking Himfast for Belfast.
He’s always like this, lucid one mont and confused the next.”
“I bought a copy of the local newspaper, it said there would be heavy rain in the coming days.
We were planning to head straight to Belfast to find you, but it looks like we’ll need to stay on the road a bit longer, the map shows Conch Town and Watch Town…
we’re getting close to your place.”
“Running out of space here, so I will stop.”
“Your good friends, Raimy & Jimmy.”
…
The handwriting ended, but not the conclusion of the letter.
A few lines below the signature, more hastily written lines appeared, as if added in a hurry.
“This is Raimy, the following part was secretly written when I took the letter while Jimmy was distracted.
Rember what I said about Jimmy being clear one mont and confused the next?
It’s been going on for a while now, and the confused periods are getting longer.
Although he doesn’t attack during those tis, he wants to attack ordinary people nearby.”
“I can still cover up for now, but I’m worried his condition will continue to deteriorate, until one day he won’t be lucid anymore…
He’s the only family I have left, please help .”
“We’re very close to Belfast now, maybe by the ti this letter reaches you, we might be in Conch Town.
I will wait there for a day for you, if you receive this in ti.
If you know what’s wrong with Jimmy or how to help him, please do write to .”
“In need of your help, Raimy & Jimmy”
The postmark on the letter was from Himfast, where Raimy had sent this letter while still there.
One point worth noting, this letter was no longer one-sided.
Raimy was eagerly awaiting a response from Lu Li.
This was distinctly different from the past.
Lu Li wasn’t sure if Raimy genuinely needed help or if it was sothing else, but he demonstrated his decision through his actions.
He tore off a blank sheet of notepaper.
Although it was only as Tesla had described, Lu Li still rembered Jimmy’s situation.
He had been transford into a creature outside the relics, but for so reason, the transformation hadn’t fully completed; he retained human consciousness while also possessing a body made from shadows.
This likely had sothing to do with Jimmy’s current condition.
“This is Lu Li; I have received your letter, along with the previous ones.”
“I suspect Jimmy’s situation relates to his monstrous body, and he might be influenced by that physique.
The content of the letter is too sparse for to make a more specific judgnt; if there’s ti, I hope you could tell more.”
After his usual conciseness, Lu Li paused slightly and added, “Just in case, don’t let him get rained on.”
After finishing, Lu Li put his pen away, folded the paper to the size of an envelope, and placed it inside an envelope.
The mailman had already left, and the next arrival wouldn’t be until tomorrow morning; by then, it might be too late.
He could only make a trip to the post office, or perhaps…
A rchant could do anything, perhaps it could take on the role of mail carrier?
At that mont, Anna’s voice, accompanied by the sll of food, drifted from the kitchen: “Lu Lili~ breakfast is almost ready!”
Soon, Anna, with a floral apron tied around her waist, ca out of the kitchen holding a pot and placed it on the table.
While Lu Li was halfway through his al, he heard heavy footsteps coming from the corridor.
The rchant had arrived.
Opening the door, the rchant, who seed as if he had just erged from the sea, entered the Detective Agency, leaving a trail of wet marks, and placed the second block of Deep Sea Stone precisely on top of the first one.
The rchant then took off a massive backpack, even larger than a cubic ter of Deep Sea Stone, and handed Lu Li this week’s “Investigator Weekly.”
Oddly, it was still brand new and dry except for a wet mark where the rchant had held it.
Lu Li took the weekly, turned, and walked to his desk to set down the newspaper, then picked up the envelope and handed it to the rchant: “Do you guys do mail delivery too?”
“Where to, and how long will it take.”
“Conch Town, by tomorrow at the latest.”
“Deliver to research site 5 today, to research site 3 tomorrow.”
“Then deliver it today, and I’ll pay you in cash.”
As he reached into his jacket to get money, he saw the rchant suddenly initiate a conversation: “Are you sure you want to send this letter?”
Having dealt with several different rchants, Lu Li knew how reticent they were, but now, a rchant was initiating a conversation with him.
Lu Li frowned slightly and asked, “Is there a problem?”
“Trouble.”
“Be a bit more specific.”
“They are making their way into reality through you.”
