Countless pairs of scissors erged from the dream, resting against the trembling clothes.
"What happened here, start from what you know."
The clothes did not resist, and through the snotty narration, the full picture of Kazgille Town gradually erged.
Its na is Yoshuhan Bruto, a butcher’s assistant before the Weird Tis. The panic in Kazgille Town started with the Uninvited Guests: a ship carrying a tenth of the town’s adult males lost contact, and disasters began to frequently visit the town. So fled to Kazvovo Town, but it was worse there, so they continued to flee.
Among those who stayed, the elders died one after another, then it was the turn of won and children, and finally few n were left.
At this ti, the mayor, who traveled to the city to seek the help of an Exorcist, returned with a textile machine. He told everyone that clothes sewn with fabric from the textile machine would shield them from disaster.
In despair, the remaining townspeople did not doubt him, and indeed, the clothes warded off disaster and the Flower Season, restoring peace to Kazgille Town.
Soon after, the "tranquility" of the town was once again disrupted. One day, the mayor claid that the clothes could resurrect their dead relatives and friends, and indeed they returned, except for those who had originally disappeared at sea.
Lu Li realized there was so discrepancy between Yoshuhan Bruto’s narrative and reality — in the description, Kazvovo Town had beco a place for raising livestock, but there was nothing there except a mountain of clothes.
Combining a scene of a family of three cutting clothes for a birthday, and a butcher shop hanging strips of clothing, Lu Li arrived at a certain conclusion.
He felt no trace of strangeness or pollution from the clothes claiming to be townspeople, which usually suggests one possibility: the textile machine brought back by the mayor as a source of pollution contaminated the clothes, gradually turning the wearing townspeople into clothes — or the clothes stole the townspeople’s mories.
So those dead ones resurrected in the form of clothes because the clothes pieced together stolen mories of the dead townspeople, but all of it was limited to Kazgille Town: the n lost at sea did not resurrect, nor did the people from Kazvovo Town. They were even worse off, treated as food by the clothes, sheltered and fed like livestock, and then slaughtered one day.
For instance, the one who left the words "Is it we who wear clothes, or do clothes wear us?" did not beco one of them.
"Are you the survivor or the resurrected?"
Lu Li asked the gray shirt claiming to be Yoshuhan Bruto.
"He said I am of course still alive."
"Yoshuhan Bruto" did not realize he had beco clothes, and Lu Li’s response was to conjure a full-length mirror in front of it.
"Is this what you call being alive?"
When the harsh reality was revealed, the gray shirt was stunned.
"He said it’s impossible, it’s impossible, it’s impossible."
Snot narrated even the mutterings.
Lu Li let the frantic and dazed gray shirt go, and before leaving the shop, he asked: "Who was the first mate of the missing ship?"
"He kept saying it’s impossible."
Lu Li, without receiving an answer, left the shop and continued to visit the street shops. Subsequent investigation confird his suspicions, piecing together the nearest truth to the answers;
The outgoing mayor returned with the source of pollution, the textile machine, spreading pollution with the clothes, with the living townspeople and deceased townspeople being transford into clothes or clothes transforming into townspeople.
The textile machine deluded them, making them believe they were still human. Discarded, unqualified clothes would be thrown into Kazvovo Town, growing into food like livestock, to be harvested by the unwitting "townspeople."
And during the investigation, Lu Li learned the na of the Uninvited Guest: Loren.
Knowing the true na of the Uninvited Guest, Lu Li continued to trace the clues, looking into his wife and daughter.
What could temporarily be confird was that they were not among these "townspeople."
Lu Li visited the neighbors, inquiring about the whereabouts of the Uninvited Guest’s wife and daughter, and snot said: "It said oh poor mother and daughter, they had just left the town when the mayor returned with hope."
Returning to the Uninvited Guest’s ho, Lu Li pushed the Crowd of Suffering into the house and closed the door.
Even so, these "townspeople" polluted by the textile machine were quite weak, too weak to occupy Twin Town during the Weird Tis and scare off strangeness.
Perhaps there was nothing here to attract strangeness, or maybe the real power was controlled by the textile machine.
Lu Li could burn the town to the ground. But his task was to investigate the truth as an investigator, not to clear out anomalies like a night watchman.
The next place to go was the last one.
Floating along familiar yet unfamiliar streets, with sadness and silence gradually filling his heart as he approached the house seen in the dream, he stood on the street and gazed at the silent house with no candlelight shining through.
Pushing open the damp and creaky wooden door, the oil lamp in Lu Li’s hand illuminated the darkness.
Startled dust drifted, the empty house was vacant, dust covering everything in sight, including a moldy, shriveled black pumpkin pie on the dining table.
Knock — knock — knock —
The persistent Uninvited Guest knocked on the door.
Lu Li opened the door and inford the tall shadow dripping seawater of his findings upon entering Kazgille Town:
"Weird Tis descended. The ship you were on wrecked at sea, and anomalies appeared in Kazgille Town. The townspeople dwindled, and the mayor returned from seeking help, bringing along an anomalous textile machine. Clothes contaminated by it gradually gained the consciousness of the wearer, with no confirmation of whether it was transfer or replacent. Wearing contaminated garnts leads to two existences, I call them clothing townspeople and food townspeople. Clothing townspeople live in the form of clothes, while food townspeople beco food for them. Most in Kazgille Town belong to the forr, Kazvovo Town to the latter."
The Uninvited Guest stood outside the door, seawater pooling beneath him, as if quietly listening.
"Your wife and daughter disappeared during this period. In the investigation, a clothing townsman said they saw them leave the town. They might have left the town, or they might have beco food townspeople."
"This is the truth I discovered."
After the calm words, the house fell into dead silence.
Suddenly, the noise from the street disturbed the silence.
"They’re shouting to catch the intruder," snot said.
Lu Li’s investigation alard the town.
The Uninvited Guest turned and left the doorstep, not departing ceremoniously, but with a trail of water stains, heading toward the gathering "townspeople."
This was not a joyful reunion.
"They are screaming."
Slaughter was taking place.
The clothes were powerless against the killing by the vengeful spirits. Perhaps it was never the animated clothing that warded off anomalies and protected Twin Town, but rather the Blood Dandelions.
The clothes polluted by the textile machine happened to resist the Blood Dandelions, so they claid the achievent, letting the forr townspeople believe the clothes protected them.
The tragedy happened because of this.
At so mont, snot said the screams outside the window disappeared, and unspeakable dead silence flowed over the street, enveloping the house.
The unsettling silence persisted.
