"Good morning, Sunshine."
Ravenna shot up from the bed when she heard Liam’s voice. Ever since she’d been brought here, he hadn’t once co to see her. But now here he was, smiling at her as though nothing had happened.
"Liam," she called out, warily walking toward him but keeping her distance.
Liam closed his eyes and smiled even wider, as if the sound of her voice was sweet music to his ears.
"I love it when you say my na."
Ravenna frowned but brushed off his words, thinking he was still under the control of the Lycan King.
"Liam... I’m sorry. I’m really sorry," Ravenna first apologized, guilt surging through her.
This person had suffered because of her weakness. Because he had beco her friend.
"What are you sorry for, Sunshine? You haven’t done anything wrong, alright?" Liam’s low, soothing voice filled her ears.
Ravenna shook her head. "You beca like this because of . This wasn’t supposed to be your life. You..."
Liam shortened the distance between them until only a single step remained. "What are you saying, Sunshine? I’ve never blad you for anything. In fact, I’m grateful I beca like this. If not, I would have died and been forgotten centuries ago. Then I wouldn’t have t you again."
Ravenna listened to his reasoning, but she thought he was only trying to justify what had happened so she wouldn’t feel guilty.
"I still ruined your life. You beca a slave to so power-hungry Lycan King," she whispered, lowering her head.
Liam smiled, his eyes never leaving her. "Who said I beca a slave? That’s not true, Sunshine."
Ravenna lifted her head, her expression full of confusion. "Huh?"
Liam sighed and turned away, facing the screen displaying Ravenna’s photos. "At first, I was under the control of the Lycan King, but with ti, I regained my senses. I rembered everything... that happened to you. That... Vampire King... he killed you."
Ravenna shuddered as she felt the aura shift at the ntion of the past. It seed Liam harbored as much hatred for Alaric as Alaric did for him. Yet, as far as she knew, the two had never had a direct, one-on-one confrontation, neither in the past nor the present.
But what truly shocked her—though it also brought relief—was the revelation that Liam was no longer under the Lycan King’s control. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder why he continued serving the man despite knowing he had no good intentions.
"Liam, it’s not like that. Alaric didn’t—"
She was cut off when Liam suddenly smashed one of the screens with his fist. "Don’t... say that na."
Ravenna frowned, wondering what was wrong with Liam. But she knew better than to provoke him—not while she was still his captive. "Okay, I won’t. But he really didn’t kill ... No, I an, he did, but he didn’t do it knowingly. I made him do it."
She gave a brief explanation, hoping it would at least ease his anger. But instead, it only made Liam’s mood darken further.
"You’re trying to justify it. I don’t care what happened. All I know is he killed you, and I won’t give him another chance to do it again," Liam said, turning to her. His eyes were blazing red with anger before slowly shifting back to their normal color.
Ravenna clenched her fists, a wave of discomfort washing over her. She could sense how serious he was. But what did he intend to do? Keep her locked in there forever? She would never allow that to happen.
"Liam, I’ll say it one last ti. Alaric is the last person who would ever harm . So you have nothing to—"
"I said not to say his na! Or else..." Liam snapped. "I’ll kill him."
"Liam!" Ravenna felt fury rise within her at his words. Threatening her mate and husband in front of her was sothing she could not tolerate. "Don’t cross the line."
Liam tilted his head back and closed his eyes, then looked at her again. "Then don’t cross mine either. I’m trying my best to be patient, but the ntion of that na just... drives mad."
Ravenna shook her head, horrified. Indeed, people changed over ti. This was not the Liam she once knew. "Since you’re not under the Lycan King’s control anymore, then we have no business with each other."
Liam’s face went blank for a mont before a dark chuckle escaped his lips. "Oh, Sunshine. We have a long way to go, and we haven’t even started. I have to take care of so things so our trip will be free of any hassles or distractions."
Ravenna’s brain stalled for a mont as she tried to process his words. "What trip?"
"Oh, don’t worry about that. I’ll handle everything. Then we’ll leave this place and go sowhere far away, where no one will ever disturb us."
A shiver of fear crawled down Ravenna’s spine. What exactly was this man saying? What was he planning?
"I’m not going anywhere with you," she said firmly. She had a husband, a son and a life to go back to.
Liam’s smile faltered briefly, then returned, even wider than before. "Don’t fret, Sunshine. I would never let you suffer with unimportant mories. So, we’ll get rid of them and create new ones. Just you and ."
Ravenna stared at him, utterly lost. What madness had overtaken Liam? "It would be better if you let go. I have no intention of going anywhere with you."
"Soon, you’ll only want ," Liam murmured, stepping closer to her.
"Don’t make hate you," Ravenna said, seething with restrained anger.
Liam rely smiled and remained silent. Then, in one swift motion, he pulled a syringe from his pocket. Before Ravenna could even grasp what he was doing, he plunged the needle into her neck.
"Don’t worry, Sunshine. Everything will be fine once you wake up," Liam whispered as he let the syringe fall from his hand.
"What..." Ravenna couldn’t finish her sentence as the wolfsbane he’d injected into her bloodstream began to take effect, draining her strength.
Her throat went dry, and sweat poured from her skin. Within monts, her legs buckled, sending her crashing to her knees as she struggled to cling to the last scraps of her strength. But it was no use. Darkness swiftly closed in around her.
