"She has a fever?!" Nick Zeller hurriedly picked up Lawrence Winters and took her to her room.
The old Daoist then brought a thermoter, handed it to Nick and said, "Take her temperature. There’s no need to take her to the hospital if it’s below 39.5 degrees, including 39.5."
Nick: "!!!"
"Not take her to the hospital at 39.5 degrees? Are you trying to make her brain dead and be done with it?" Nick said irritably, calling Gabrielle Winters, saying, "Quick, co change Lawrence’s clothes. She’s burning with a high fever."
Gabrielle lifted the lid and looked inside the Furnace of Eight Trigrams. Seeing that an old piece of Lawrence’s underwear had already burned to ashes, she turned off the fire and brought the furnace inside.
Nick took the furnace from her hand and waited with the old Daoist outside Lawrence’s room.
Inside, Gabrielle carefully put pajamas on Lawrence, afraid of touching her injured arm.
Lawrence lay on the bed with a flushed face, her lips tightly pressed together, and her naturally distant mountain-like eyebrows, without makeup, gave her appearance a serene and ethereal quality compared to when her eyes were open.
Gabrielle touched her forehead and was startled by the burning heat. She looked at the thermoter’s reading and was about to explode.
She quickly turned and rushed out to Nick, saying, "Lawrence is burning like this, and you’re not rushing her to the hospital?!"
"Gabrielle, calm down. Lawrence’s high fever is mainly caused by the injury on her arm," the old Daoist lied with a straight face. Anyway, Gabrielle didn’t know anything, and Nick wouldn’t expose him.
Gabrielle accepted this explanation much better than the old Daoist’s earlier cryptic manner.
She sighed in relief, patting her chest and saying, "But with such a high temperature, are you sure we don’t need to go to the hospital? Could the knife wound on her arm have gotten infected, causing the fever?"
"During the recovery process, the wound will definitely get inflad; it’s unavoidable." The old Daoist nodded, "I have herbal dicine, I’ll go decoct so to reduce her fever and inflammation."
"That’s good. You prepare the dicine and give it to . I’ll decoct it," Gabrielle quickly said, "We have a special clay pot for decocting, three bowls of water down to one, right?"
"Yes, I’ll get you a few packets. You only need to decoct once a day, one packet is enough for three doses."
The old Daoist took Gabrielle to get his herbal dicine packets, and Nick sat alone in Lawrence’s room, nervously watching her.
He actually wanted to take her to the hospital too, but the old Daoist was unwilling, so he temporarily adhered to his advice.
However, he would monitor Lawrence’s temperature closely, and if it exceeded 39.5 degrees, he would imdiately take her to the hospital.
An hour later, Gabrielle brought the decocted dicine, and together with Nick, fed it to Lawrence.
Lawrence was feverishly delirious, but still sowhat aware, and readily opened her mouth for the dicine.
After taking it, she fell back into a deep sleep.
Gabrielle and Nick stayed in her room, taking her temperature every half hour.
By evening, her temperature finally dropped to 39 degrees.
Gabrielle rubbed her sowhat damp eyes and murmured, "I hope it keeps getting better."
"It will." Nick comforted her and asked what she wanted to eat.
Gabrielle shook her head, "I don’t want to eat anything, but Lawrence likes to drink soup. Please ask the grandmaster to make her so easily digestible broth."
Nick nodded and went out to talk to the old Daoist.
At that mont, Kenneth Osborne first called Gabrielle.
Hearing her phone ring, Gabrielle looked down to see it was Kenneth’s number, and quickly answered.
Kenneth spoke very politely, "Auntie Wen, I moved out today. I didn’t see you or Uncle Zhang when I left this morning, so I didn’t say goodbye, which was rude of ."
"Ah? Oh, why did you suddenly move out?" Gabrielle rubbed her temples, feeling very tired.
Kenneth thought for a mont and said softly, "I had planned to move out after the New Year, as you know."
Gabrielle suddenly rembered how Lawrence looked today.
When they found her, she was staring at the elevator doors!
Because Lawrence had a high fever once she regained consciousness, and now Kenneth said he moved out this morning, could there be a connection between the two?
Gabrielle tentatively asked, "Kenneth, what ti did you leave? Does Nora know?"
Kenneth rembered clearly, "I left at 10:05 in the morning. Nora knows."
Gabrielle frowned, thinking that when they found Lawrence, it was already past noon.
Could it be that from the ti Kenneth left at ten, Lawrence had been standing until noon, standing for two hours?
