Hailee’s POV

The door creaked open slowly under my hand. The mont I stepped inside, the warmth of the room hit —but it wasn’t comforting. It was suffocating. Heavy. Thick with the sharp, unmistakable scent of sweat and sex.

I took one cautious step forward, the tray trembling in my hands, my gaze sweeping across the dimly lit room. The sound struck first—wet, rhythmic. Low, breathy moans tangled with harsh, guttural whispers. Skin slapping against skin.

My brows furrowed. My heart skipped a beat. My gaze flicked up—confused, unprepared—and that’s when I saw them. A woman, bent over the table, gripping the edge like her life depended on it. Her eyes were shut tight, mouth open in a silent cry. And behind her—thrusting into her with slow, deep rolls of his hips—was a young man. His hands gripped her hips like he owned her. Like he didn’t care who saw.

For a second, I couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe. My feet were rooted to the floor as my brain tried to process what I was looking at. Then... he looked up. Straight at . His eyes t mine—deep brown, emotionless. There was no panic. No sha. Just a slow, deliberate smirk, as if he wanted to see. I swallowed hard and turned to leave, but his deep, commanding voice froze in place.

"Stop."

I stopped. But I didn’t turn around. My hands tightened on the tray, and I could hear movent behind —the soft rustle of clothes, the creak of the table... and the woman’s voice.

"Please... let cum," she begged, her voice breathy and desperate.

The young man chuckled. "So other ti, darling. And thank you... for the welco gift."

Welco gift? I frowned. Was... that what the sex was? A gift for his arrival? A wave of disgust and confusion rolled over . I wanted to walk away, pretend I hadn’t seen anything—but again, his voice stopped .

"Turn around."

I frowned at his rudeness but turned around only to realize he was completely naked and wasn’t trying to cover up. I looked away and now that the girl was turned around I realized it was Alicia, the head warrior’s daughter. Our eyes t, and she stared at with a hateful glare like I just spoilt the fun.

My heart pounded as I stepped forward with the tray, trying not to look at either of them.

"My coffee," the man said, reaching for the cup like nothing had just happened.

I handed it to him with shaking hands. He took a long sip, his dark brown eyes still on . Then he spoke again, casually, but with curiosity this ti.

"What’s your na?"

Before I could answer, Alicia scoffed loudly.

"Why do you want her na? She’s just an oga."

Her words angered . I bit my lip, trying not to react. But sothing in the man’s face shifted instantly. He turned his full attention to now, his brow furrowing.

"You’re... an oga?" he asked, like he couldn’t believe it.

I nodded slowly. Then his face changed completely. The curiosity vanished—and sothing colder took its place. Hate. He stared at like I’d personally insulted him just by standing there. I didn’t know what I’d done. Didn’t understand where the hate ca from. He looked at like I was nothing. Like I had done sothing terrible to him. I didn’t understand why. Sure, so people didn’t like ogas because of the low ranking, but this felt different. His hate ran deep. Like he had a personal reason.

He scoffed. "Ogas," he muttered under his breath, like it was a curse.

Then his voice turned sharp. "Get out."

I flinched at the cold command but turned on my heel and walked away, my mind spinning. Frowning deeply, I wondered What was wrong with that guy?

It wasn’t difficult to guess that the silver-haired guy was Nathan’s cousin. But was rudeness just a trait that ran in the family? Did they all look down on ogas like we were less than nothing? I huffed as I walked down the hall and made my way back to the library. I wasn’t going to let one arrogant man ruin my entire day.

I pushed the door open and stepped into the quiet, book-filled room. The scent of paper and dust helped calm a little. Here, I felt more like myself. I sucked in a deep breath and got to work. I went through my usual routine—dusting, cleaning the shelves, arranging the books in proper order. It took a while, but it always helped clear my mind. Once I was done, I sat behind the front desk, finally feeling like I could breathe again.

But just as I started to relax, the library door opened. I looked up, expecting a staff mber—yes, staff were allowed to take books. But it was Nathan. He stepped in like he owned the place, dressed in all black—dark jeans, a button-down shirt, and a leather jacket. His hair was freshly styled. His jaw was clean-shaven. And his scent... warm, woodsy, and faintly minty—hit from across the room. I swallowed hard. Damn. Why did he have to look so good? My eyes stayed on him longer than I ant them to, tracing every detail. He looked like he was going sowhere important.

Swallowing hard, I looked away, ignoring the racing of my heart.

"Good morning, Hailee." He greeted like we hadn’t seen each other this morning... like we didn’t spend the night together in my bed.

I looked away and then murmured, "Good morning."

Nathan stepped forward and stood right in front of , with just the desk separating us.

"I’ll be out of the pack for a bit," he said. "But I’ll be back before nightfall. By then, you should have decided if you’re coming with to the Fire Born Festival."

I gulped hard, and that was when I realized Callum had also asked to be his date too... what do I do?

Not knowing what to say, I nodded but didn’t look up at him.

From the corner of my eyes, I noticed Nathan’s eyes stayed on for a second longer. Then he smiled, that slow, alluring smile that always made my stomach flutter.

"By the way," he added, "you look beautiful today."

My eyes widened just a little. I hadn’t expected that. I didn’t even think he noticed what I looked like. Heat rushed to my cheeks before I could stop it. I looked down quickly, pretending to straighten the already stacked papers on the desk.

"Thank you," I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper.

He didn’t say anything else. Just turned and walked away, leaving the scent of cedar wood behind him. I stared at the closed door, my heart still racing like a drum in my chest.

God. Why did I blush like that? Why did he affect so much?

I was still ntally scolding myself when the door opened again. My heart skipped, thinking it might be Nathan coming back.

But it wasn’t him. It was his cousin. The silver-haired young man from earlier. His eyes locked on mine the second he stepped in. Cold. Sharp. Still holding that sa judgntal look like I didn’t belong here.

My fingers froze over the desk. I sat up straighter, unsure of what he wanted. He didn’t say a word at first. He just stepped further into the room and closed the door behind him.

I swallowed hard. Why do I have a bad feeling about this?
