Finally after carefully avoiding any suspicious conversation and eating his al in silence—there were so many of them the fairy brought him but the ones he still rembered were the Indian tandoori chicken, the Som Tam, the Bulgogi, and the Peking duck. He rembered them mostly because Ambrose wouldn’t shut up about how delicious they were.
The fairies had long cleared their plates by now and Damien didn’t know what ti it was, but his eyes were now heavy with sleep already—probably because he’d just stuffed himself full with food he could only dream of eating.
At last, everyone had finished eating, and old man Twiller stood to his feet again. The hall imdiately went silent.
"I’m assuming everyone is now full and ready to pay attention to my words—especially the first years," he announced, his voice echoing in the circular hall, even to the back seats.
"New students should take note to follow the rules set by their house teachers in every dormitory. Failure to adhere to these instructions once found out will lead to punishnt."
Damien swallowed.
"Bullying of any kind is not tolerated at Gibforge! However, if students have a dispute they think needs fists to be settled, the school hosts sparing battles or duels every weekend and is open to having the students sign up for a fight. However, first years should take note that accepting a challenge from a fellow first year and failing to win the fight will lead to them getting expelled—so please take note to avoid duels unless you know you can win."
’The hell?!’ Damien scrunched his brows at the old man as he continued his speech.
"Gibforge is an impartial academy. When you’re here, you’re all equal. We don’t care whether you’re royalty or not, whether your parents are business moguls or celebrity heroes, or in general—Gibforge will treat every student in an equal manner," Twiller paused, his blue eyes scanning over the students.
No one dared to move. They were all glued to their seats, paying attention to the old man—or rather, faking it. Damien noticed how Alicia was already dozing off but surprisingly, she wasn’t bobbing her head side to side like the usual sleepy person does. Her head was perfectly still despite her already letting out soft snores.
"As for curfew, 9pm is the ti limit for when every student is supposed to be in their dorm rooms. Whatever you do with the rest of your ti in there, we don’t care, as long as you’re in your dorms.
"Also, I’m sure the majority of you know this, but for the good of those who might not," Twiller’s eyes flicked in Damien’s direction, "Gibforge is a school ant to train strong heroes only. It might be unfair to so of you, but if Gibforge deems you weak in any way in the coming 7 years of your training here, we will expel you."
Damien’s heart made a sorsault in his chest as his belly rumbled in protest despite him being full. Even the rest of the students who had been silent throughout Twiller’s speech broke character and began to whisper amongst themselves.
Yong shifted from his chair and bent forward so he could take a peek at Eden. Damien was about to block him, but sothing about the way he was gazing at her made him stop. Instead, he found himself moving back so the boy could have a clean view of Eden. However, Yong noticed his movent and stopped looking, turning his eyes back to the Principal in an instant.
’What was that?’ Damien wondered, glancing at Eden.
That’s when he noticed the distraught expression on her face. Now that he knew about her weakness, Damien couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for her.
"Don’t worry, we won’t just ditch you without anything else to do in life. Whilst you’re here at Gibforge, we’ll encourage you to explore other endeavors and careers just in case you don’t make the cut during your training. If it so happens that you beco one of the unfortunate few, we’ll send you to a regular academy that focuses more on the career path that fits your strengths, and you can continue your schooling from there.
"Don’t hesitate to list Gibforge or any of your favorite teachers in your resus once you’re done with school. We’ll be more than happy to recomnd you to companies," Twiller winked at his now bitterly silent audience, smiling.
"Well, this just got dark," Yong mumbled under his breath but Damien heard him anyway.
"Barreling trials will be held in the coming week. For more details on the sport, see Professor Silva and his assistant Mr. Marek," Twiller continued his announcent, and this ti, it was Eden who peeked at Yong Kim.
Damien noticed it and moved out of her way again, but just like Yong, she looked away when she noticed he’d seen her.
’It’s official. Sothing’s defined going on between these two,’ Damien wondered, getting curious about their relationship all of a sudden as he glanced at Yong whose eyes were now sparkling with yet another emotion Damien couldn’t explain.
However, after he witnessed the animosity between the two royal family elders a few weeks ago, Damien had a hunch that Eden and Yong were natural enemies who shared a mutual hate for each other. Thinking of it that way, it suddenly made sense why Yong always tried to bother Eden—but what didn’t make more sense was how he sohow knew of Eden’s condition despite their families being enemies.
"Finally," Twiller cut Damien’s thoughts, "all students are restricted from entering the museum in the school’s center right next to this hall unless they’re permitted to do so, or they’re with a teacher at least. Failure to oblige will lead to the student in question getting punished."
Damien’s eyes narrowed at the old man as he shalessly bent himself close to Yong since Alicia was still sleeping. "What’s in the museum?" He muttered to the prince.
"Special artifacts of course. Although, I did hear whispers that they added another piece in there this year back ho. I’m not sure what it is, but after his warning, I’m sure no one’ll be visiting the museum this year," Yong replied, glancing at Damien and rolling his eyes when he noticed the curious look on the vampire’s face.
"Except for an idiot like you that is," he added glancing at Eden who, like Damien had a curious look on her face—but her’s was more on the mischievous side.
’And her.’
"Ahem—now that we’re done eating and you’ve listened to rumbling nonstop about the academy’s rules, why don’t we all go to sleep and prepare for yet another eventful year at Gibforge?! Adios munchkins!"
"Finally. I was beginning to think we’ll sleep in here today," Alicia, now suddenly full of life again imdiately rose from her seat.
"Follow , Amaris. I’ll lead you to your room."
