Eiro glanced into Jane's eyes, seeing the list of classes that were appearing to her. But she wasn't selecting anything. Because a mont later, her eyes went completely white. Her iris and even her pupil seed to disappear as the whites of her eyes spread over them. This was her ability activating. Jane started shivering and her legs almost gave in.
It made sense. So many people had touched this stone in a short ti, and most likely felt deep, strong emotions as they selected their class. Sothing like that left a deep 'imprint' on objects, which her ability was most likely latching onto. If Eiro was right... what she was seeing was the past of those people that related to the class change stone. The work that they did to be able to attain the class that they ended up choosing.
It was clear that Jane wasn't dealing well with this massive influx of information, so Eiro knew he had to do sothing. He placed so power into his voice, trying to use the influence of the 'charisma' stat to his benefit. Usually, he used it in a more threatening way, but there were other monts when it ca in useful.
People in such a shaken state of mind as Jane currently was were particularly easy to manipulate. So, Eiro whispered to her carefully, "Calm down. Sort through those thoughts. Focus on one, and let it run its course. Then, focus on the next. And the next and the next. You don't need to deal with it all at once. Just take your ti."
Clearly, sothing changed in Jane at that mont. She wasn't shaking as aggressively anymore, and was slowly doing exactly what Eiro had told her to do. Whenever he noticed her straying off the path, Eiro reiterated what he told her, trying to get her to really not let it all just shoot into her head all at once. On top of that, the demon was using so healing magic to try and help her heartrate calm down, so that the adrenaline that was coursing through her body didn't make it all worse. Plus, she was clenching her jaw and fist quite intensely to the point where she was on the brink of injuring herself. Eiro wanted to avoid that as much as he could.
It took a little while, but before long, Jane opened her mouth and let out deep gasps, "I... I did it, I... I got through it, and it wasn't even... it wasn't even that bad."
A broad smile ford on her lips, as Eiro patted her back, watching as her eyes returned to normal. Overlayed on top of the list of classes given to her, there was seemingly a notification about her Eye of Ti skill levelling up a couple of tis. Of course, if you managed to properly engage with a skill instead of running away from it, that's what happened.
The demon let out a relieved breath, "Okay, now go and choose your class. It sorts them separately by rarity. Again, I would recomnd choosing the unique class at the top of the list for the ti being. That way, you can probably find a way to control this ability well, alright? That class will most likely level up as you try exactly that, so you should actually manage to reach level 100 fairly fast, comparatively. After that, if you want, you can pick a subsequently unlocked class, or you can go back and pick any of these other classes that you have unlocked, alright?"
Eiro was making sure to point at the space where those classes were displayed for Jane, though he of course couldn't see the actual system ssage. As he did, a twinge of an 'idea' flowed into his mind. The ntal duplicates imdiately got to work, trying to make this idea sothing useful by running it through his new ability, and were putting together a pattern that would allow him to attain a particular new system function for himself. He would give it a try later. For now, that wasn't quite that important.
Jane looked at the system window, nervous to make an actual choice, "And... you think I'm going to be useful even if I pick this class? I've always been just a bother to the people here."
"That's not-" Marius was about to step in and say that this wasn't the truth, but he was unable to get himself to finish that sentence. Because he knew that protesting would be a lie. And Eiro knew it as well. He could hear the spark of a lie flow out of Marius' mouth.
"Don't worry, you're not going to be a bother. You have a powerful, incredibly useful ability," Eiro smiled, "And hey, you've been able to keep it a secret even from the Devil while you lived in that village, so I'd say you're pretty damn impressive to begin with. However... I'm not going to force you to pick any particular class. If you'd rather be a... baker, or a smith, or any of these other class paths that you've got open to you, then you can do that."
Jane seed to think about it for a mont, but in the end just shook her head, "No, no, I'm going to pick the unique class."
Her selection was made, and the screen disappeared. Instead, a few notifications popped up in front of Jane that congratulated her on her new class, on top of showing her the new ability she got her hands on. The class itself was called 'Tiless Child', which was also the na of the ability that she got together with the class.
According to the ability's description that Jane quickly checked, it was probably the best ability she could have ever gotten. It seed like the system was trying to fix a mistake that it had made. It basically acted as a 'filter', helping her do what Eiro had just made her do manually, though in a slightly different way. It boosted the 'clarity of all visions', which hopefully would make things way, way easier for Jane going forward.
And Eiro could see a weight lifted off her shoulders almost imdiately, like she could already feel the effects. So, to test it out, Eiro slowly brought Jane over to another spot that was used quite frequently. The well that he had dug out in the village in preparation for their arrival.
"... And you think it's going to work?"
"The only way to really find out is to try," Eiro replied. Jane nodded, and carefully placed her hand onto the cobbled stone that was the edge of the well. Her eyes turned white again, and Jane froze, but she was much more relaxed than before. Her jaw wasn't clenched, her muscles weren't tense. Her heartrate was increasing, and she clearly still didn't have a good ti, but it was much better than before. Jane ca out of her vision with a gasp, placing a hand onto her chest.
"That was... rough, but... managable," Jane smiled, clearly more than simply happy about what was going on. She was relieved beyond what she was able to express.
"I'm very glad to hear it. But, now... I believe that it would be best for you to undergo proper training for this ability, so that you can co to control it better. I will write you up a regi that you should follow diligently. Do not worry about other work you may have done until now," Eiro explained, "Oh, and it might be best for you to explain your ability to the others. Maybe that way they would co to understand exactly why you are anything but 'a bother'."
The demon looked over at Marius when he said that last part, who had been following behind them, incredibly confused about what was actually going on here. And of course, to him, it just seed as though Jane was a sick child that was hard to work with. In a village with this few people, Jane's condition beca even more apparent.
"My... My lord, what exactly is going on?" Marius asked, though he wasn't really looking at Eiro as he did, but was looking past him, straight at Jane.
"I... I was born with a unique skill," she explained, doing the opposite, staring at the ground instead, "It lets see through ti. I can see the close future, and I can see the things long past of objects whenever I touch sothing. It gets... overwhelming."
Turning to Eiro, it was like Marius was trying to confirm whether or not she was telling the truth. So, the demon just replied with a brief nod.
"That is... that is incredible, Jane. I'm sorry. I... did your parents know about this?"
Jane carefully nodded her head, "They did. They told to keep it a secret, because people would think it's 'weird'."
"I... I see. No, it's not weird at all. I'm really happy that you told ."
Again, Jane nodded. It seed like Marius was going to try and speak to her about this a bit more. If Jane was orphaned, then Marius was probably the best adult for her to talk to about all of this right now, especially because he must have actually seen so of the things she went through in the past. And so, Eiro began to ntally work out a proper way for Jane to train her skill, now that she had an ability that made their use easier to manage.
But there was sothing else. The ntal duplicates had also figured out what pattern Eiro had to write to gain that new system function he was thinking about before.
