Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Starting The Pack (2)
A thin man man in his 30’s with a dirty beard and wearing rags searched through the trash for food.
He was starving, Marcus couldn’t help but laugh at his situation, he used to be an architect.
But unfortunately he was a man with treasure and no power, he married the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
Their lives were good until a powerful politician took fancy of her but when she refused he forced himself on her.
Marcus in his rage attacked the man and was sent to prison for 7 years, he almost died in there.
When he ca out he found out his wife had taken her own life out of depression, having lost everything he moved cities.
He thought he could start over hers in Lagos but his past followed him and now here he was about to die of hunger.
He hasn’t eaten in four days, he barely had the strength to walk, his vision was blurry and he was cold.
He lost all strength and fell down but he wasn’t sad, he felt relief instead, at least now he can et again.
’ You won’t.’ he suddenly heard a voice in his head, he tried to sit back up but he lacked the strength.
’You think you will go where she is? You will not, not with all that you’ve done.’ the voice continued.
Marcus tried to ignore it and closed his eyes and waited for long awaited sweet release of death.
’ Release? Hilarious, no peace will co with your death, all that will follow will be endless suffering.’
Marcus had to admit the voice in his head was getting to him, he knew he was hallucinating but it still made him scared.
’ This is no hallucinations, I’m no fragnt of your imagination, I’m real and so are all the demons in your heart.’
" Wh..what do you want?" Marcus finally grew scared and shouted will all the strength he had.
Yet his voice ca out as nothing but a whisper, he was almost positive he was not hallucinating now.
This made him wonder if the afterlife was real and not sothing people made up to provide themselves comfort.
If it was real, he knew for certain he was going to hell and that made him absolutely terrified.
’ It is not about what I want Marcus, it’s about what you desire, now tell, , what do you desire?’
" To see her again, to hold her in my arms even for a split second, can you grant
that?" He asked mockingly, he knew that not possible.
’ Yes.’ the answer caught him off guard and had he not lacked the strength he would’ve jumped up.
’ However that is not your greatest desire is it? You want sothing else more than holding your beloved.
Set your desires free Marcus, reveal them to
and I shall grant them to you in full, now speak the truth for I can see through you, what is it that you truly desire?’
Marcus wanted to repeat what he said, he did desire to hold his wife again, that was true but when he tried to speak, his mouth didn’t open.
When he tried to say what he said before, he felt himself choking and he knew he couldn’t lie and started crying.
This was his sha because deep down he knew the truth, his greatest desire wasn’t to hold his wife.
" I want him to pay, I want all of them to pay, the system that protects monsters like him, the so called friends who condemned
for defending my wife’s honour, I want them all to pay!"
A wave of anger and hatred he had been suppressing cane out like a blazing fla and his voice bood through the dark alley.
Then his eyes caught sharp fangs grinning at him and two silver orbs burning in the darkness and glaring at him.
" Good." This ti the voice was as real as his own but it lacked distinction and sounded like every voice he had every heard.
It sounded like it ca from every direction, even underground but he knew it originated from the shadow standing in front of him.
" I will grant you the power you desire, you will have your vengeance by your own hands, in exchange, your body and soul will be mine to have."
" Are..are you a demon?" He asked in a shaking voice, but even if this creature was a demon he didn’t care.
He would gladly sell his soul if it ant having his revenge, the shadowy face drew closer to his.
" I’m no demon, I’m worse, way worse, now drink." Before Marcus could react he found a tal cup on his lips.
The sll of blood assaulted his nose and touched his lips, he tried to spit it out but it went down his throat out of his control.
He felt strength returning to his body and all of his wounds nded themselves at a visible speed.
He was just about to thank the shadowy figure when it bit him on the neck, he felt a venom course through his veins.
Then a voice whispered in his mind and he blanked out. Adrain watched the man nad Marcus and grinned.
Marcus was rely one of many, Adrain didn’t target then randomly, he specifically went for those without family or anything to lose.
Those who held deep resentnt or ambitions and like a demon he offered them what they wanted in exchange for their souls.
Of course he didn’t have the power to take people’s souls but he can always claim the lives of any who betrays him.
In one night he had already convinced multiple n and won to sell themselves to him.
Those with family or anybody who would care or notice their disappearance were naturally not chosen.
Adrian was already considered a threat alone and he knew from clues left by ggie that so powerful beings want him dead.
He couldn’t understand why but figured it was because of his species, after all he did have the venom that can kill even the undying.
He knew if those old monsters learnt he was building an army, they would do everything in their power to stop him.
’ The sun is about to rise, lets call it a night.’
