Chapter 6: This Is My First Ti, I’m Quite Nervous...

“Can you please tell where you learn to draw those demonic runes you just used, Blake?”

“I just learned it earlier from seeing you do it. I’m sorry if I shouldn’t have done that.” Blake replied with an apologetic face while slightly bowing his head.

‘He really did it by only seeing use it a few tis!?’ Vera was beyond shocked as he stared at the humanoid demon in front of her.

She had already thought about the possibility of Blake doing exactly that earlier, but now that she actually heard it from Blake himself and her lie-detecting spell didn’t sense any lie coming from Blake’s mouth, she was now even more confused about his background and identity.

“Where did you actually co from?”

“I think I ca from sowhere far, far away from here and I don’t know how I got here in the first place,” Blake replied as vaguely as possible. He didn’t want to share the fact that he used to be a human living on a planet called earth, he didn’t know about what the demoness thought of the humans and he wasn’t willing to risk his life by giving her that information.

However, Vera’s next question completely caught him off-guard as she asked,

.....

“What is the na of the place? Maybe I know where it is and I might be able to help you get back there.”

Blake froze for a split second, but he was quick enough to look downward to hide his facial expression and hide it from Vera before returning back to look at the demoness.

But even though he had successfully controlled his facial expression, it didn’t an that he was safe, since he now had to think of an answer fast where she couldn’t point out that he was spitting bullshit, while also keeping the fact that he possibly ca from a completely different planet.

‘What should I do...’

Blake’s head already went into full overdrive mode for three whole seconds and he couldn’t co up with anything. Vera was starting to question Blake’s behavior and she was about to press him with even more questions, but before she opened up her mouth, one of the wolves that were held down by the darkness tendrils suddenly whimpered, causing the two humanoid demons to turn their heads over to look.

One of the demonic wolves, the one that Blake used to experint with the different demonic runes from the darkness tendrils, couldn’t hold on to its life anymore as the sharp darkness tendrils that poked holes through its body caused even more blood to flow out of the demon’s body, finally killing the demonic wolf after so ti had passed.

Noticing it was only one of the demonic wolves dying, Vera ignored it and returned her focus back onto Blake, who seed to be having a hard ti answering her simple question.

However, when she noticed that Blake still had his eyes focused on the demonic wolf, particularly on a shining dark ball that floated right on top of the demonic wolf’s body, she then said.

“You can get the soul if you want. I don’t mind you having it even though I caught that wolf first.”

She was eager to know more about Blake as she was doubting his identity, and whether he was soone that was sent to drag her back to where she ca from, be it through force, or through other thods such as sweet-talking her to it.

She wasn’t too afraid of the first option as she was confident in her own strength, and seeing how Blake acts in front of her, she thought that it should be the latter thod if he were to do it. Hence why she wanted to confirm whether Blake had anything to do with her. If yes, then she wouldn’t hesitate to send him away firmly or even deal with him if he acts like a pest.

But if it was proven that Blake didn’t have anything to do with her, then she would have been more than intrigued to know more about the humanoid demon better as she was really curious about how the demon was able to recreate her spell just from seeing it a couple of tis.

“Soul? That thing is a soul?”

“Excuse ? What were you asking?” As if she had heard sothing that she had never thought she would ever hear in her entire life, Vera did a double-take and asked the demon that was asking her the question while tilting her head in a confused manner.

“That dark glowing thing is a soul?” Blake once again asked.

“You... You don’t know what a soul is!?” Vera once again asked this ti with her voice raised several pitches higher.

It was at that mont, Blake knew, he fucked up.

He knew that demons took the souls of their enemies as it was ntioned in every book out there that ntioned the demons.

But he was a human, how would he know what a soul looks like? It was his first ti ever seeing sothing coming out of a dead creature’s body, and the fact that it was a soul startled him quite a lot that he wasn’t able to think properly before speaking his mind out loud.

“Seriously, where did you co from, Blake??” She asked once again, this ti with a frustrated voice.

Knowing that his cover of being a native of the foreign world that he had just been thrown into was already went down the drain, Blake quickly decided to go into plan B, which was,

“I think I ca from another world... But I don’t know how...” He said, with a timid voice, and the hand on his back getting readier than ever to draw the demonic runes to hold Vera down so that he could escape the mont she decided to attack him.

However, he was surprised when he saw that Vera didn’t have any intention of attacking him, instead, she asked even more questions,

“So you were born in another world? Did your parents not teach you anything?”

“I don’t know any of my parents... I have never seen them even once in my life.” Blake replied truthfully this ti without trying to make his words vague or hiding anything from Vera.

“Haa...” Vera sighed before asking another question.

“Blake, how old are you again?”

“I’m 14,” Blake replied, wondering what she wanted to know with that question.

“So let repeat this again. You’re from another world and you suddenly found yourself here, your parents abandoned you and you didn’t know anything about them, and lastly, you are 14 years old?” She asked while focusing on her lie-detecting spell, making sure that it was working properly.

“Yes...” Blake replied shortly.

Sensing that Blake didn’t say a single lie again, Vera completely dropped her guard down, canceled her lie-detecting spell before rubbing her temples and thought,

‘A 14 years old humanoid demon that was abandoned by his parents and didn’t even know what a soul is...Haa... I was worried about a newly-born demon all this ti... That explains why he didn’t have any wings and why there’s no aura of a highly evolved demon around him despite being a humanoid demon that was able to speak fluently. How could he even evolve if he didn’t even know what a soul is!?’

‘And seeing that it was his first ti ever seeing a soul, that also ans that this is his first ti ever seeing anything die in front of him. What kind of condition was he living in before he ca here...? Was he locked up for 14 years of his life and not being fed even a single soul?’

‘But still... It doesn’t an that he wasn’t a genius... It was even more amazing knowing that it was probably his first ti ever drawing runes or even casting a spell. His talent to be a runemaster is basically out of this world...No, he was probably born for it.’

Now that Vera had confird that Blake was not soone that was sent to get her, she quickly went into her second plan of getting to know more about the demon that had an unimaginable talent in front of her.

“Umm... Vera, what did you say about the soul earlier?” Blake’s voice suddenly traveled to her ears.

Feeling pity that the demon in front of her had never eaten a single soul for more than a decade, Vera explained slowly,

“You have to eat the soul so that you can beco a stronger demon. And later if you have consud enough soul, you will be able to evolve and beco exponentially stronger.”

“Eat it?”

“Yes. just put it into your mouth and swallow it.” She explained once again.

‘Why would they even bother to keep the baby alive if they were going to abandon him like this...’ Vera thought as she wondered about Blake’s parents’ decision.

She thought her own parents were already bad at parenting, but after seeing Blake’s, she now knew that there was soone worse than her own parents.

Blake was hesitating as he heard that he needed to eat the soul as his human brain was still processing whether what he did would be unethical.

“Why are hesitating, Blake?”

“This is my first ti...I’m quite nervous...”

But it didn’t take him a long ti to make his decision,

‘Just like how I don’t care about those vegans banning at, I will also not care about ethics that probably banned from eating a dead soul!’

Then after steeling his heart, Blake walked over to the demonic wolf and grabbed the soul with his hand.

It weighed like nothing, and felt like nothing, there wasn’t even a texture that his hands could feel, he just knew that his hand was currently grabbing a soul.

‘3..2..1!’ Blake did a little countdown in his head before putting the soul in his mouth and swallowing it right away.

After the soul entered his throat and went into his body, Blake suddenly heard a foreign voice in his head,

[Congratulations on eating your first soul, host!]

[You have leveled up!]

Blake wondered where the voice ca from and whether he was imagining things, but right after the voice stopped speaking, new information started appearing in his head.
