Chapter 990: Chapter 723 Viper

Envy, jealousy, suspicion—emotions of all sorts bubbled within Joseph, making his steps feel lighter.

“Why did Vera agree to him? Is she planning a joke or looking for so fun?”

People murmured, watching the backs of the pair as they left. Fal’s expression grew ugly; without contrast, there would be no pain. If Vera had refused everyone, he might have felt a bit better.

But now, she just rejected him only to turn around and agree to…

“Congratulations, Mr. Fal, you are the undeniable champion of this hunting competition!”

Biska’s voice rang in his ears as she eyed Fal’s strong physique. “Let’s cheer! Applaud for the champion. Among warriors, I think you can certainly get along well with Deross.”

Biska blinked appropriately, “I’ve heard you also have military experience, so you two must have a lot to talk about.”

Fal’s expression softened sowhat, and he smiled at Biska as sporadic shouts and applause echoed around them. It’s just that people’s attention wasn’t focused there anymore.

Faintly, discussions about Vera and Joseph could still be heard.

After a series of formulaic procedures, Vera and Joseph’s figures did not reappear in the venue for a long ti.

“Could that guy have used so despicable ans?”

A heavily made-up woman muttered quietly, her voice not loud, yet clearly heard by several of her companions.

“Andine, mind your words! Don’t gossip behind others’ backs!” Biska coldly stopped her, but Roger noticed that her face was sowhat unnatural.

His eyes flashed with understanding. Clearly, the potion mixed into the wine glass by Vera likely ca from Biska.

If further inferred, so traits exhibited by that potion might be unique to Greenburg.

The substance traveled through his stomach without being absorbed. But with Roger’s current knowledge, he could deduce so effects of the potion.

He tweaked it slightly. Hmm…if everything goes smoothly, Joseph should get what he wants.

I am truly a good person.

Roger silently thought to himself.

With Biska’s stance, although others were still whispering, none dared to further discuss similar topics.

After a busy afternoon, everyone felt a bit tired. A streak of sunset hung over the horizon, adorning the mansion imrsed in the jungle with exceptional beauty.

Sunlight gilded the leaves, displaying a host of colors.

When they returned to the mansion, preparations for the banquet had already begun, but Roger didn’t see Joseph.

After refreshing himself and changing into new clothes, Fal arrived at a room on the top floor accompanied by Biska and Bondi.

The mansion housed many staff mbers, most of whom were ordinary people. Roger rely noticed their nimble actions and bright eyes; beyond this, he couldn’t discern much given his current state.

However, based on his speculations, this mansion seed relaxed on the outside but tight on the inside—appearing peaceful while many places showed signs of intentional arrangents.

“There’s sothing strange here, seemingly protecting Deross.”

“Is it just normal arrangents, or is it related to his previous identity?”

Beautiful music filled the hall, and the hunted ga from the afternoon was ticulously cooked and placed on the long table.

Watching these figures disappear, Roger withdrew his gaze silently, then found a corner where no one would disturb him.

Given his low status, coupled with a minor incident involving Vera earlier in the afternoon, naturally, no one ca to trouble Roger.

Several young noble daughters had originally shown so interest in Roger’s handso face, but after hearing so information from others, they quickly lost interest.

Roger found peace, focusing his attention entirely elsewhere.

Third floor.

Biska and Fal conversed joyfully; their discussion was lively indeed. Even the usually prideful and acerbic Biska showed so admiration in her eyes.

Bondi occasionally chid in, making the atmosphere quite pleasant.

Though unspoken, Biska had several underlying intentions for hosting this dinner party.

On one hand, it was to showcase the new identity of the Baron of Greenburg, and on the other, she hoped to use this opportunity to et other nobles.

Given her age, in ordinary noble families she might already be the mother of four or five children, yet due to family decline, her marriage had also beco a problem.

It was a tily chance to consider potential suitors.

At this mont, as she nodded repeatedly, she realized Fal, who she previously knew little about, seed to possess a special charm.

“I’ve heard of your accomplishnts; it’s truly remarkable!” Deross, sitting in the room, smiled and gestured toward Fal.

“Apologies, feeling a bit unwell.”

His face paled slightly, and he coughed quietly a few tis without standing to reciprocate Fal’s courtesy.

“This is an extraordinary honor; the kingdom will forever rember,” Fal praised fittingly.

Everyone settled, forming a small arc, as if at a casual tea party.

After a pleasant exchange, Deross tily showed so fatigue.

“The preparations for the banquet should be nearly done. It’s high ti it started or others might get impatient.”

Bondi spoke.

His eyes held so inexplicable glimr, yet his body’s muscles relaxed, and his vigilance seed to have decreased significantly.

And at the mont, in the dense woods surrounding the mansion, everything happening around Deross and others was ticulously observed by a few figures.
