Chapter 897: Chapter 679: Sorry, I Was Impulsive_2
“Do you know Roger?”
“Hmm, no wonder you have no attachnt to this place.”
“Turns out you already had your fill before coming here.”
Though Panambi wasn’t entirely sure of the aning behind the woman’s words, for so reason, she felt reassured that she probably wouldn’t end up being thrown into a pot.
…
Kaer Morhen.
It had only been a few short days, but Roger could sense a peculiar tension building within the seemingly calm and tranquil castle.
Henrik knew the full story, and his emotions would undoubtedly ripple downward. Even though the ordinary Demon Hunters didn’t know what had happened, they still couldn’t avoid being affected.
“How’s Amanda?”
“Everything’s normal.”
Henrik casually glanced at Sonia. However, Sonia’s entire figure was shrouded in a layer of black mist—nobody could see her true appearance unless she willed it.
This spared them from certain troubles.
But the mont she crossed the drawbridge and stepped into Kaer Morhen, for reasons she couldn’t explain, Sonia felt an inexplicable dread.
It was as though sothing imnse and nacing was hidden in this place.
She worked hard to steady her emotions and, together with Roger, ascended to the top-floor room.
Following Hillrenes’ instructions from before, Roger had once set a barrier here. Amanda remained unconscious inside.
Sonia revealed her original appearance. She scrutinized Amanda carefully and said, “As expected, these are Hillrenes’s thods.”
“The Eye of Truth doesn’t function the sa way anymore. She’s already taken its power, and what’s left for you is nothing more than an empty shell.”
“But one thing she didn’t lie about is that she can use its remaining power for positioning, enabling her to pinpoint that world.”
“If, by chance, you retrieve the other eye, she could break through the illusions and find a safe path to that world.”
“That is, of course, if she’s willing.”
“What do we do then?” Roger asked. “Wake her up?”
If soone could dominate this ritual, it ant that the soul infiltrating Amanda’s body possessed enormous power.
Even if it wasn’t at the Fifth Tier, it must still be one of the elites among the Fourth Tier.
Back then, they managed to capture the entity partly by taking it by surprise and partly because the ritual had just begun. At that point, it was controlling Amanda’s body under suppressive rules, making it nearly its weakest state.
“No need for such trouble.”
Sonia took a deep breath and fixed her gaze on Roger. There seed to be sothing hidden in her eyes that caused Roger to shiver uneasily.
“This girl carries your scent.”
Roger’s face turned dark as he thought to himself, “Of all tis, can you not bring up these random things now?”
Seemingly reading Roger’s thoughts, Sonia explained, “Don’t overlook the connection between soul and flesh.”
“To find that girl in another world, there are only two ways: her soul and another person’s physical body.”
“If that’s the case, then it’ll be much simpler.”
“What we’re about to do next might be slightly dangerous.”
Sonia gave a brief explanation, leaving Roger frowning deeply as he listened.
According to Sonia, the portal was already closed. Without an exact location or the other eye, she could only use a special thod to perform a rough positioning.
However, while Amanda was in a dormant state, Sonia could utilize soul pressure to cause her invader’s consciousness to instinctively shrink back.
Its natural reaction would be to escape this body.
In that brief instant, an extrely weak connection would form, and they’d only have one chance. Once confird, they’d need to act imdiately.
After a mont of contemplation, Roger made up his mind. “But at the very least, we need to know her identity to make searching easier.”
Sonia remained silent.
After a while, she finally nodded. “I’ll give it a try.”
Roger stepped back a few paces to give her enough space. Wisps of black smoke began seeping out from Sonia’s pores, forming a vague dragon head in midair.
Her eyes turned pitch-black, and she gently placed her fingers on Amanda’s forehead.
Buzz.
In an instant, the entire room seed to lose all sound. Roger felt as if he were in a vacuum, though he quickly realized it was rely a psychological sensation.
Amanda’s expression shifted slightly, her body trembling as a hazy face flickered into view.
It was a cold and proud woman.
Her eyes were dyed black as well, but the communication lasted only for an instant. A resonant noise echoed through the void, and the blurry shadow vanished completely in the next second.
At the sa ti, Sonia’s body trembled violently. The dragon head behind her shattered with a loud boom, and she coughed up a mouthful of blood, her form swaying unsteadily.
Roger stepped forward to support her.
The instant their skin touched, Roger sensed the condition of Sonia’s body.
This woman was gravely injured—not just physically but deeply wounded on other fronts as well. Whatever had just happened must have co at an imnse price.
No wonder she hesitated so long before answering when Roger asked for her help.
“Why are you helping ?”
Her face regained so color as Sonia exhaled deeply.
“Lifting the bindings on wasn’t a simple task. You saved , so I’m willing to trust you this once.”
Such a pure Fourth Tier…
Honestly, Roger hadn’t encountered soone like this in quite a long ti.
While the circumstances were indeed fortuitous, now wasn’t the ti to explain. Roger rely asked vaguely, “What’s next?”
“Using the Eye of Truth, we’ve determined a rough position. Next, we need to open the passage and enter that world.”
After a brief pause, Sonia took another deep breath.
“For this Otherworld journey, I hope to accompany you.”
“You’re coming too?”
Roger felt slightly startled but quickly pieced together the reasoning.
“I’ve been bound for too long. My vitality is nearly drained, and my lifespan has reached its limit.”
“If I don’t take this gamble, I’ll have no choice but to wait for death.”
As expected, Roger considered another question in tandem. “Knowing this, why did you hand over the Eye of Truth to when you clearly planned on making the journey yourself?”
“I…”
Sonia opened her mouth, and finally, she gave a response that nearly made Roger laugh aloud.
“I was impulsive at the ti…”
Roger almost burst out laughing.
Impulsive, huh?
Though she was identical to Hillrenes in appearance, their personalities and approaches couldn’t have been more different.
Roger even suspected that Sonia had managed to avoid being sabotaged during her developnt only thanks to Hillrenes’s maneuvers.
With her cunning, any potential threats approaching them would’ve been quietly dealt with long ago.
“You granted freedom and chose to believe in . Back then, I thought… since I had almost nothing to lose, you could do with as you pleased.”
Sonia inhaled sharply. “So I figured I might as well follow my own instincts.”
“At least I’d have no regrets and could face my end peacefully.”
Roger’s eye twitched, though he put on an expression that seemingly said, “I knew I didn’t misjudge you.” This subtle gesture further deepened Sonia’s trust in him.
“It’s a world with Dragonborn in it. Even if its rules differ from this place, there should still be many similarities, so it’s a gamble worth taking.”
“Besides, apart from descending in my true form, what other options do I have at this point?”
Roger said nothing. He recalled Sonia’s earlier hesitations. Despite her impulsive nature, this woman wasn’t entirely without sense.
As she had explained, Roger was stronger than her, rendering resistance aningless in this scenario. Additionally, by exaggerating the risks, Sonia had indirectly tested Roger’s character.
A Transcendent willing to sacrifice for their companions could always earn so degree of trust.
After careful consideration, she had revealed her true intentions.
Such rational behavior left a positive impression on Roger—overall, Sonia had gained his approval.
Additionally, having a nearly Fifth Tier Transcendent to accompany him—one who was also a Dragonborn—would significantly reduce the uncertainties of this mission.
“But you’re so badly injured…”
“Don’t worry. Once we enter that other world, we’ll be suppressed by the world’s rules, leaving us in a weakened state for a lengthy period.”
“Being injured like this might actually reduce the suppression and speed up the recovery process,” Sonia said, glancing at Roger.
“Wanna give it a try yourself?”
Roger: Haha…
