Chapter 86: Chapter 086: The Secret of the Saint Heir

“I’m pleased you joined us.”

Henrik smiled and shook hands with Roger.

“To be honest, I’ve always been quite hesitant. After all, being a Demon Hunter is a dangerous job with a very high mortality rate.”

“I’m not sure if bringing you in was right or wrong either,” Henrik looked at Roger.

“However, from our first mission, I knew you were born for this!”

“Sharp and extrely patient, your performance during the last task made it hard to believe you are still just a youth.”

...

Henrik praised generously.

It was rare to see Henrik like this, and for a mont Roger even wondered if the guy had so ulterior motive for him.

Roger always felt that the true Henrik was more of a blabbering drunk, spouting nothing but lies.

“Didn’t you say you were going to take to et soone?” Roger asked, “When do we leave?”

Henrik finished off the sausages on his plate.

“No need, she has already seen you.”

“She?” Roger was slightly startled and then looked around.

“Where?”

“Don’t bother looking, you won’t find her.”

He cleaned his plate of food and wiped his mouth.

“The person who interviewed ?”

Henrik nodded.

“You could say that.”

“She’s in charge of Bordeaux City and the surrounding areas.”

“She’s hidden among the crowd?” Roger was curious.

“Young man, that doesn’t seem to be a matter you should concern yourself with.”

“Snap!”

Henrik placed a stack of docunts on the table.

“The task location is at rmaid Town.”

“I don’t know what they’re up to, but that damned place is becoming less and less peaceful,” Henrik muttered.

“Just take a look, and based on my guess, they should be low-level Evil Spirits. With the experience from last ti, it should be a walk in the park for you.”

Roger collected the docunts but didn’t imdiately look them over; with so many eyes around, it would be better to examine them slowly after getting back.

Watching this, Henrik nodded quietly to himself. Roger’s many actions were impeccable, sothing that many traditionally trained junior hunters couldn’t achieve to such an extent.

“The holiday is over, I’ll see if I can find an excuse when the ti cos.”

With the inco from Henrik’s side, Roger, who was financially independent, could actually live on his own.

He thought about moving out of Adeline’s house and then dedicating himself completely to the Demon Hunting cause.

He had discussed this problem with Henrik not long ago.

At the ti, Henrik had promptly vetoed the idea.

Henrik had told Roger that the thrill of living on the edge can easily entice a Demon Hunter, making the mundane aspects of everyday life seem utterly aningless.

As ti went on, the sense of disconnection from regular life would only grow, and the constant killing and hunting would steadily affect one’s ntality.

Although he didn’t state it explicitly, Roger could infer from Henrik’s words that sothing very terrible must happen to hunters who imrse themselves in bloodshed.

Perhaps one day, the Demon Hunter would beco the hunted themselves.

After Henrik’s cautionary advice, Roger’s enthusiasm had dampened considerably. He was destined to beco a Demon Hunter, but first and foremost, he was a person.

What’s the point if life is just about killing and hunting?

My goal is to build a grand castle like Kaer Morhen, filled with like-minded friends, it doesn’t matter whether she’s a Demon Hunter, a female sorceress, a Witch, or a Banshee.

Enjoying life is what’s fundantal.

“Don’t worry, we’ll arrange everything for you,” Henrik nodded to Roger.

“Trust , I’ll find the most reasonable excuse to send you to Swamp Town.”

Henrik stood up.

“Oh, right!”

“This task is pretty simple, just a solo trial.”

“Pass it, and you’ll officially start your job.”

“Hold on a second!”

Roger suddenly spoke up.

“Is there a reward for completing this trial task?”

Henrik paused for two seconds before exploding with a curse, “Shit, are you that desperate for money?”

Roger curled his lip, “I’m soone who’s planning to buy a big house.”

A lot of big houses.

Besides, I learned this from you.

On his way back, Roger suddenly rembered Ivy’s words before her death about the advent of the Saint Heir.

“Saint Heir’s advent?”

“Where did you hear that term?”

Henrik’s eyes narrowed slightly.

“Is it from your family’s records?”

Henrik did not dwell on this issue.

“That’s just so fancy title the Three Holy Spirits and those madn give themselves. Of course, other powers do sothing similar, with all these titles like Chosen One, Destined Child, Son of God.”

“Basically, the grander it sounds, the better.”

Henrik drove Roger towards Adeline’s house.

“Isn’t it so?”

To be honest, when Roger first heard this news, the first person he thought of was himself.

An unknown identity, a blank mory, and a soul from another world—all of these aspects seed to align perfectly with the legend of the Saint Heir.

“Could it be that I’m destined to be the man who changes the world?”

But now, listening to Henrik’s tone, this so-called Saint Heir seed quite different from what he had imagined.

Henrik let out a cold laugh.

“They’re just a bunch of executioners.”

When they arrived near Adeline’s house, Henrik slowly stopped the car. “The struggle of Demon Hunters with these monsters has never ceased from ancient tis to the present.”

“Your family’s legacy may be incomplete, you may not rember this part, but have you ever thought about how these monsters appeared?”

“Aren’t they native to this world?”

Henrik shook his head.

“Many ancient myths and folklore have their worldly origins, and these origins are the so-called Saint Heirs.”

“They are outsiders.”

“I’m not clear on how they arrive in this world, but every ti one does, it affects the surrounding environnt.”

“Energy becos active, animals and plants mutate, or so people awaken special talents…”

“And these changemakers, the Descendants, are known as Saint Heirs.”

“Each ti, organizations like the Three Holy Spirits swarm to them like bloodthirsty sharks, capturing these Descendants to imprison, dissect, and study them!”

“There are no heroes to save the world or any so-called Chosen One.”

“Reality is cruel, and the lucky ones might die in experints, while the unlucky keep living to endure endless experints!”

“And this, this is one of the key sources of their mysterious rituals and their ascent to Transcendent status.”

Henrik lit a cigarette.

“Of course, these so-called Descendants are mostly not powerful, and even the slightly stronger ones are quickly captured under the crushing force of technology.”

“That’s why they’re so eager to seek out Saint Heirs.”

“Of course, there are occasional mishaps.”

“30 years ago, near Bordeaux City, a big one appeared.” He glanced at Roger. “If you’re interested, you can look it up in the news.”

“The incident was so big that even national powers couldn’t cover it up.”
