Chapter 450: Chapter 450: Communication with Gawain Chapter 450: Chapter 450: Communication with Gawain Unlike a normal ritual, Roger felt his spirit being carried by the Ritual Array in the darkness, apparently conveying so ssage.
There was no response, and he waited patiently, listening to the snap and crackle of the white candle on the table, as the scent of burning hollyhock perated the air.
This was a new ingredient specially added for this ritual.
His spirit bobbed and floated in the darkness until finally, the familiar voice that Roger had sent out found an answer.
“Mr. Mist.”
“Should I call you Paladin, or…”
“Gawain.”
A resolute voice ca from the darkness, and then the black void before him was torn asunder, revealing a face.
It was no longer the guise of a Paladin but the Radiant Knight whom Roger had seen once before.
“You played us all for fools,” Gawain said with a bitter smile.
“The Foreign Spirit Assembly has been established for many years, but this is the first ti sothing like this has happened,” he added, then sothing else occurred to him, “Of course, in terms of the severity of the loss, it’s also unprecedented.”
“What about the Soul Devourer?” Gawain asked.
“Don’t worry, he’s thoroughly dead, from body to soul, not a trace of him remains in this world,” Roger answered.
At this mont, his face was still covered by the mask that Claudia had given him, showing the sa face he had used when dealing with Gawain.
“That’s a rare piece of good news.”
Gawain’s face revealed a slight smile. “That man was a madman; he killed one of the founders of the Assembly and gleaned plenty of mber information through Soul Search from that person’s mind…”
“You know, the mbers of the whole Assembly aren’t just those who attend the etings, there are others with lesser strength who aren’t yet qualified to participate.”
“And the Soul Devourer chose to target these individuals.”
“Such a heavy loss,” he lanted.
Gawain looked at Roger.
“Mr. Mist, our deal failed for so reasons, and from the current situation, you probably don’t wish to continue trading with ,” Gawain said.
“Do you plan to return the item in your hands?”
A joke, surely. Even though Gawain had taken the treasures from the Silver Manuscript in advance, Roger had no intention of relinquishing the benefits he had gained.
He crossed his arms, propped his elbows on the table, and leaned forward slightly.
“I’ve heard about your conflict with Lancelot. If it weren’t for drawing the attention of four Round Table Knights that day, you might not have been able to leave that place, right?” Roger said.
Gawain raised an eyebrow slightly, “In a sense, those Round Table Knights ca there because of the Soul Devourer, and if it weren’t for your conflict with that Soul Devourer…”
He turned to Roger. “I wouldn’t be suffering this wrongful calamity, and I’d still be the renowned Radiant Knight, not living these days in hiding.”
“From that perspective, you’re the one who wronged ,” Gawain said frankly, yet he was not naively honorable.
Roger chuckled, “Alright, let’s call it even then.”
Even? Gawain’s eyes twitched slightly; you’re the one taking advantage, aren’t you?
“What exactly happened between you and Lancelot that day? Can you tell in detail?” Roger asked.
Gawain thought for a mont, and without deliberately concealing anything—except for so details about his combat abilities—he recounted everything that happened that day to Roger.
In a tit-for-tat manner, Roger also shared with Gawain the events that had unfolded on his end.
“It seems for a long ti to co, we will both beco thorns in the eyes and flesh of the Round Table Knights. If the situation gets any more serious, it’s very likely that the higher-ups of the Privy Council will intervene directly,” Gawain said.
Despite becoming a target of a powerful force, the expression on Gawain’s face didn’t show much panic. He always seed like this, as if nothing could disturb his composure.
“Will the Privy Council send soone to investigate directly?”
Roger was even more worried than Gawain; he was still under the guise of Bedivere at the mont.
“That’s hard to say, it depends on Green’s decision.”
“Due to the limitations of the world’s rules, it’s very difficult for combat powers above the Fifth Tier to appear directly in the real world. It’s like raising a whale in a pond, which isn’t good for either the fish or the pond.”
“It’s even highly possible that there will be a significant drop in strength, and they might not perform as well as a regular Fourth Tier.”
Gawain ntioned offhand.
“I’ve only been in this world for a short ti and the highest combat power I’ve encountered is only Fourth Tier. Have you co into contact with higher-level Transcendents?”
Roger asked.
“If you’re talking about other worlds,” Gawain said with a smile, pointing to himself, “you’re sitting in front of one right now.”
“But if you an here.”
He shook his head and then tapped his own head, “I’ve only seen so fragnted scenes in the original mories of this soul.”
“Don’t worry, unless sothing extrely important happens, those guys won’t show up easily.”
Roger frowned, clearly not fully agreeing with Gawain’s statent.
“This world is too small for them.”
Gawain glanced at Roger.
“If you had a vast forest at the front of your house, would you care about one more weed growing in your garden?”
He gestured with his hand.
“This world may seem large, but in relative terms, it’s just a slightly bigger garden.”
He stared at Roger, his lips slightly pursed, and his right fist tightened slightly as if he had made so decision.
“Mr. Mist.”
“I have a suggestion.”
A glint of resolve flashed in Gawain’s eyes.
“We’ve made contact before, and you could say we’ve indirectly fought together. I respect your character…”
“Ahem, and your combat abilities.”
“The Foreign Spirit Assembly has developed over the years as a loose organization, everyone fighting their own battles, and the lower-level mbers have faced purges ti and again.”
“Yet everyone turns a blind eye to such matters, which leads to all of us Otherworldly Souls living quite poorly in this world.”
“To say our lives are hanging by a thread would be no exaggeration.”
“And this ti, the Soul Devourer’s sudden betrayal has made see certain things clearly. I want to team up with you to integrate everyone.”
He clenched his fist.
“To form a powerful whole!”
“If one day we beco strong enough to contend with the Privy Council head-on, then the state of life for all of us will be completely changed!”
Gawain’s eyes were shining as he stared at Roger, searching for a similar spark in Roger’s eyes, but from beginning to end Roger simply sat there quietly.
“You want to beco the leader of the Foreign Spirit Assembly?”
Roger asked.
“President, together!”
Roger didn’t answer; he lowered his head and thought for a mont, “Why?”
“Why now?”
“Why ?”
