Gilbert’s jaw dropped to the floor, as he kept trying to figure out how Thane could’ve gotten to this location, and how much he might’ve heard.

In-between coughs, the doctor begged, "I’ve held up...my end of the bargain...please release !"

Thane crouched down and picked up the pills, "Ha." He sighed, a sowhat disappointed look embedded in his gaze. "I suppose."

Bargain? Gilbert looked over his shoulder to see the doctor violently massaging the sides of his neck, when their eyes t, he cracked a small grin. "What? Did you think I was loyal only to the boss?"

In disbelief, he tried to connect the dots, "T-That’s impossible...how would you two have even t-" he cut himself off when he noticed the shirt Thane had on. It was the sa one the driver was wearing.

Answering his question, Thane explained, "Do you know one of Sun Tzu’s famous ideologies?" He started off, his focused gaze fixed on the bottle of pills.

Not waiting for a response, he told him "All warfare is based on deception."

Gilbert recalled the na of the man Thane was quoting, more importantly, it was from the young master’s favorite book, ’The Art Of war’ the one he had read countlessly since childhood.

Furthermore he explained, "Another famous tactican says to keep your friends close, your enemies closer."

"Young Master, I can explain-"

Thane calmly inserted, "Do you know why I hired you and Hannah in the first place? It was because I knew you two were the only ones I could trust."

He went on, "Knowing my family, they wouldn’t waste their ti planting a spy, because I would weed them out. They would rather have my people work against ."

Still, Gilbert was unconvinced, "You aren’t making any sense. Why didn’t you suspect Hannah? Or anyone else, or even Mrs Grayson-" he was saying, only for Thane’s glare to sharpen, forcing him into shutting his mouth.

Speaking over the silence, the doctor said in a nervous tone, "You won’t bother anymore right? I already betrayed my employer for you, so please leave alone for good. I’ll even tell you who my boss is!"

Thane’s anger slowly dissipated, "There is no need, I already know their identity. I guessed it awhile back at the estate." He turned to Gilbert, "To answer your question, I discreetly tested everyone, but you were the only one who failed."

Gilbert’s eyes went round, "Test? What test?!" His shaky voice demanded.

Thane walked over to the nearest chair and sat down, his gaze trained strictly on Gilbert the entire ti. Crossing one leg over the other he lecturered, "I suspected Anders the most, and tested her first. Back at the estate, when I had that attack, do you know why the drug didn’t kill ?" He asked, not expecting a reply.

After a brief half minute of silence he said, "That was because I only took half of the pill, and not because your drug wasn’t at it perfected version."

"What?!" Gilbert blurted out.

Thane chuckled, "Even though it was just half of the dication, it was enough to send into a coma. I imagine the intent was to kill , but I thwarted that plan and led the enemy to believe two crucial things." He held two fingers up.

"One, that their drug was imperfect. And two, that because of my wife I had beco careless with my health, careless enough to travel abruptly without my dicine. Infact, while we’re on the subject, how did the staff at the estate know I didn’t have my dication on at the ti?" His tone slowly turned sinister and taunting.

Gilbert balled his fists and clenched his jaw.

Thane’s lecture went on, drowning the room in tension so thick it could be cut through with a knife. "The only ones who knew I abruptly left the country was you and Hannah. But sohow, while I was getting served breakfast, without my asking for it, my dication was included in the al. Does that not sound odd to you?"

Beads of sweat ford across Gilbert’s forehead, nervously he demanded, "T-That could have been Hannah or the doctor?! Again, why -"

"Because the results from Anders and the results from the secret doctor I hired were a match. If Anders was the culprit, she would’ve gone with the lie that my health was declining because of my carelessness." He cut him off.

Gilbert shook his head, "Still that’s not enough reason-"

"Furthermore, I still tested her so more by having her investigate into the drug laced in my system. I had her pour all her resources into the investigation, and she did not disappoint, apparently, a drug with similar properties was being developed by a doctor who lost his license in this city. Anders was cleared off my suspicion when she introduced to the quack standing right behind you." He inford him, then took a break for his words to sink in.

Tapping his foot and shaking his head, Gilbert spat at the doctor, "Y-You...You an, all this ti....All this ti you knew?! You knew he had caught on?!"

The doctor kept a taunting grin, "I never pledged loyalty to you or your boss."

"You fucking piece of shit!" Gilbert charged at him, but the doctor quickly climbed on top of the table, he reached into his back pocket and pulled out a pocket-knife.

"Hey! Stand back! If you have a problem, take it out on him! He’s the one you should be angry at!" The doctor yelled, waving the knife around without any aim.

"Shut up! I’ll kill you-" he was saying, until he was interrupted by Thane abruptly standing up and making for the door.

"Master Grayson-" he tried to go after him, but Thane cut him off with a stern tone and a murderous look in his eye.

"You will stay away from , from my wife, and from my manor, do you understand? The next ti I even catch sight of you, I will run you and your family to the ground."
