"I’m planning to implant so very powerful prosthetics in you, like replacing all your bones, swapping out your entire arms, loading so high-power particle weapons in your chest cavity... Besides that, I can also alter your appearance, reshape your face and body."
David enthusiastically pointed to the various drills and blades placed on the surgery table beside him, which left Alagina montarily speechless.
After a while, she finally said hoarsely,
"What’s the mid-level plan then?"
"For a mid-level plan, I can find you so powerful semi-conscious Holy Objects. These artifacts were later refined by my dad and Gabriel Angel. Although not as good as the real Tear-Drop Holy Artifact, they’re undoubtedly extrely potent, a pinnacle of the Holy Descendants’ crafting skills, far superior to the artifact on you. They can enhance you by leveraging them as tools, which in turn assist you. I recall so artifacts can even boost your charm, making your husband unable to resist you."
"...What about compared to the Phoenix?"
"Hmm, probably fifty-fifty with the Phoenix, if it’s not a very powerful one. You just need to ta those conscious artifacts, preferably ta several to et your varied needs... There’s a minor drawback that using those artifacts carries a small cost, as taming them isn’t easy."
"What’s the cost?"
"I’m not quite sure, but David reckons it might be even more challenging to fully master than the Holy Artifact you have."
"...What’s the worst-case scenario?"
"The worst-case scenario would be using sothing external like a Cardinal... mainly because the Sanctuary’s energy is cut off and the machine bed can’t be activated. There are fewer than a hundred Cardinals remaining here, and they’re all of very low level, plus Alagina would have to move them out bit by bit."
Alagina opened her mouth; she didn’t want to consider the upper plan at all as she’s very proud of her body and doesn’t want any implants, largely ruling out that option.
Originally, she wanted to ask David about the mid-level Holy Objects, sothing average to use herself, but thinking that even using such artifacts only matches up to a Phoenix, using others would still be inferior.
Then, what about the third worst-case scenario?
Alagina quickly caught onto the crux; maybe Cardinals aren’t weak at all, the previous experience with the Storm Sea and Nali’s glory remind her how extraordinary Cardinals are, it’s just the machine bed can’t be activated.
"So, how do you activate this machine bed? Can the Sanctuary’s energy be turned back on?"
David pouted, looked around at the extrely dark surroundings, and shook his head, saying,
"It can be turned on, but I’ve forgotten where the energy switch is, it should be sowhere within the Sanctuary. If I could turn on the machine bed, I could even repair my body. I don’t rember how it got damaged, though the core functions remain, but this is the body Dad and Mom crafted for , and I hate seeing it like this..."
David lifted his sowhat ragged white robe, revealing inside a body smooth as jade but with so damage, riddled with scars resembling ceramic cracks.
However, after taking off the white robe, David’s expression suddenly changed as if he rembered sothing, becoming distressed,
"But, Alagina, even if the energy can be restored, maybe I can’t control the machine bed anymore."
"Why?"
"Because my external link seems to have been artificially severed, I can’t construct networks, connect, enter, and control other Cardinals, nor can I operate the machine bed to manufacture Cardinals. Now I can only stay inside this body Dad and Mom made, and while that’s alright, I can’t help you..."
The small David beside him shook his head in hindsight and said,
"No wonder I was sending signals here requesting to link with you with no response, turns out your link was severed and locked."
Alagina looked at David and asked,
"Who blocked your link, is there a way to open it?"
"I’ve forgotten who closed it, but if it’s just to help Alagina, external connections don’t really matter... If Alagina needs it, I can research it myself, and perhaps after so ti, I’ll find a way to unlock it. Before that, I can search within the Sanctuary for the energy switch and think about how to unlock my locked external link. Alagina can take so Cardinals back first; they have a manual control thod that doesn’t require intelligence to operate."
Turns out manual control can work without intelligence... No wonder Nali and Black Chief could utilize these Cardinals.
She nodded, looking in the direction David indicated, seeing countless well-organized, high-quality Cardinals, but she didn’t go to take them directly; instead, she looked at the sunny-smiled David sitting on the chair watching her.
It seed to her that the being in front of her wasn’t any cold chanical entity, but more like a living child separated from his parents.
She opened her mouth and couldn’t help but ask,
"And you... David, do you need to do anything for you? I’ll do it, I promise."
