When Leng Lingxiao ca down, Tang Xiaowan was thoroughly enjoying her al, alternating between bites of eggplant and spicy peppers, her eyes fixed intently on the large iron pot on the stove, eagerly waiting for the water to boil to add the dumplings.
"Don’t move, I’ll do it."
"Mr. Leng, your injury..."
"It’s fine, give it to ."
Leng Lingxiao took the cloth from Granny Yu’s hands, slowly lifted the oil pot, and aid at the pale yellow enal basin beside him, "Just pour it in here. Is it too small?"
"Go ahead, it’s no problem."
Just as Granny Yu had said, it was the perfect size.
Who would have guessed he was so perceptive!
Tang Xiaowan curled her lip, silently impressed, and as she turned, her eyes t Leng Lingxiao’s bright ones. His look seed to say, it was no big deal, just a flick of the wrist.
"Put that pot on too, so we can cook them together. Otherwise, with more people, we’ll have to wait longer," Tang Xiaowan suddenly spoke up to Leng Lingxiao.
The man conveniently took a pot from the rack, filled it with water, and placed it on the stove. After completing the task, he half-expected the girl to praise him, but she had already disappeared.
"Thank you, Mr. Leng, for your help. You should go and rest now," Granny Yu said with a smile, handing him a paper towel.
Leng Lingxiao wiped his hands and then left.
"Tangtang, Tangtang..."
Right out the door, he began calling loudly.
"The young miss is in the yard."
At this mont, Wang ijuan just happened to walk into the living room and pointed behind her.
"Tangtang, Tangtang..."
The man kept calling and went straight to the small courtyard.
There, Tang Xiaowan was leaning casually against a pavilion post, sitting in a very bold posture, thankfully wearing casual pants, or she might have revealed too much.
"What are you calling for?"
Leng Lingxiao glanced at the round wooden table, "Shall we eat here later?"
"Are you in charge of serving?"
"Dumplings? Sure, it’s no trouble."
"Just kidding, I’ll do it. Don’t aggravate your injury further."
"Wow, you’re so kind, I’m flattered!"
Leng Lingxiao knew Tang Xiaowan was tough on the outside but soft on the inside. She wouldn’t let him do it all by himself, and when the dumplings were ready, she would surely help. Still, hearing it straight from her mouth was quite pleasing.
"Mr. Leng, isn’t there anything else... you want to tell ?" Tang Xiaowan suddenly sat up straight and asked tentatively.
Why isn’t she calling for Huahua?
Mr. Leng, sothing else, tell her?
Leng Lingxiao felt a sudden tightness in his chest and sensed a hidden aning in her words, "Yes, of course, there is!"
"Go on, I’m all ears."
Watching Tang Xiaowan’s face full of anticipation, Leng Lingxiao’s heart was in turmoil.
Could she have really found out about the bandage change?
This girl seems so carefree but is actually quite hard to deceive!
"Co on, speak up, why the silence?"
Tang Xiaowan was getting impatient and pressed on.
"Oh, there is indeed sothing to tell you. With the sports et coinciding with the university anniversary, I’ve decided, as a friend, to donate so water and first aid supplies as a goodwill gesture."
At those words, Tang Xiaowan shook her head, feeling underwheld, having thought the man would co clean about the bandage change.
"Hey, what’s with that look?"
Although Leng Lingxiao was feeling guilty and suspected that Tang Xiaowan already knew, he still looked at her seriously and posed the rhetorical question.
"A look of surprise." Tang Xiaowan glared back at Leng Lingxiao and then gazed at the azure sky.
"Not going to talk, huh? Fine, you’re tough!
After dinner, I’m going to pour out all those ds, not a single pill left, pour them all out."
"Hey, let tell you about Tangtang here, don’t underestimate these things. They may look inconspicuous, but they cost quite a bit of money," Leng Lingxiao reiterated, looking very distressed.
Tang Xiaowan raised an eyebrow and said, "I appreciate the gentleman’s generous donation, I shall rember it in my heart."
Leng Lingxiao: "..."
"Hurry up and recover, it feels awkward."
"Anyway, you have plenty of money, just donate it, you’d feel uncomfortable otherwise," Tang Xiaowan said with a giggly smile.
Leng Lingxiao imdiately straightened up, nodding in satisfaction, "Don’t worry, I will donate in my own na, and it definitely won’t involve... your share of the funds."
"Psh, it should be that way!"
With a smiling expression in his eyes, Leng Lingxiao gently said, "Little money grubber, I just knew..."
Before he could finish, Granny Yu and Wang ijuan ca over with dumplings, vinegar, and chili. Behind them followed Cheng Shi, holding eggplant slices and stuffed bell peppers drenched in sauce.
"You’re so quick, everything’s ready!" Tang Xiaowan proudly glanced at Leng Lingxiao.
"Yeah, no need to bring any more, hahaha."
...
On the other side, at Nanjiang Villa.
Last night, Li Zihan called to say that he wouldn’t be going to Li Garden for a while and wanted to stay with his mother for so ti. Li Zishen didn’t think much of it and reminded him to exercise more since the sports et was coming up soon.
Li Zihan didn’t ntion his mother’s fainting incident.
"Mom, how are you feeling this morning?" Li Zihan asked Madam Lai with concern as he put so mustard greens into her bowl.
"I’ve been fine for a while, let’s just eat."
"Oh, that’s good then."
Madam Lai’s appetite has never been great, and she usually ate just half a bowl of rice, but she had asked Nanny Wu to serve her more today. She didn’t want Li Zihan to worry and affect his studies.
The third year was crucial. Even though the Leng Family had many connections to arrange for Li Zihan’s future after graduation, Madam Lai still hoped that he would study abroad like his brother Li Zishen, co back with a degree, and beco the pride of the Leng Family.
"Mom, when I ca back, I saw uncle number three, and he seed unhappy, with a stern face. Did he have a conflict with uncle number two again?"
"It’s nothing much, just that your uncle number two’s companies... I don’t know what’s going on; sothing about data loss, seems like they lost quite a bit of money. He suspects that your uncle number three is behind it."
"My uncle number two ca as well?"
"Yes, they ca one after the other. They ca to find , but it’s just a pretext. They’re actually hoping your brother would step in to sort out his ss."
"I see, that figures."
Grinning mischievously, Li Zihan passed his bowl to Nanny Wu, "So more rice, please. By the way, why is there no beef today, not even pork?"
His question made Nanny Wu a bit uncomfortable.
After Li Zhenshan passed away, Madam Lai began to practice vegetarianism, and she got used to it herself.
Li Zihan rarely ca back for lunch, and although he had given a heads-up yesterday, Nanny Wu did not expect him to return today, so she hadn’t prepared the at dishes he liked.
There were so frozen ones, but there wouldn’t be enough ti to defrost them.
"Sorry, Young Master, I was negligent."
"Oh, it’s alright, it’s good to eat vegetarian once in a while. This stir-fried lettuce is done quite well, really good with rice. Look, I’m already on my second bowl."
His hearty laugh erupted.
To put Nanny Wu at ease, Li Zihan hurriedly picked up another piece of lettuce with his chopsticks.
"Nanny Wu, could you go and fetch the imported canned food that his uncle number two took... What was it again? Let Zihan try a couple of cans," Madam Lai said with a smile.
"Yes, Madam."
Before Nanny Wu could turn to leave, Li Zihan interjected resentfully, "Don’t bother, I dare not eat his stuff, who knows what’s inside. Full of dirty tricks, definitely up to no good."
"What are you talking about, child?"
Although Madam Lai scolded him with her words, she still signaled to Nanny Wu that it was not necessary to fetch it.
The dining room suddenly fell quiet.
