The phone kept ringing persistently. Seeing that she wasn’t picking up, the driver in front glanced back through the rearview mirror.
He then reminded, "Miss Lynch."
"Miss Lynch?"
His voice rose a bit.
Thea Lynch frowned, slowly opened her eyes.
Driver: "You have a call."
Because of the exhibition today, Thea had set her phone to the lowest volu, so any slight noise would drown out the ringtone.
The call was from Silas Cheney.
Thea answered, adjusting her posture.
"Hello."
"..." As soon as she spoke, Silas sensed sothing was off.
"I heard from others that you went out for a al?"
"Yeah."
"Did you drink? Are you alright?"
"I’m fine. My uncle sent soone to pick up. I should be at the hotel soon."
Silas breathed a sigh of relief, "Alright, well, get a good rest when you get back."
He must have called for a reason. Thea asked, "What’s up?"
"Nothing urgent, we can talk tomorrow when you have ti."
After hanging up, Thea put her phone back in her pocket, trying hard to keep her eyes open and look out the window, "How much longer?"
"Just a turn here and we’re there."
"Okay."
The car stopped steadily. The driver got out first, walked to the back, and opened the car door.
"Are you okay?"
Thea nodded and slowly got out on her own.
The driver thoughtfully escorted her upstairs and only left once he was sure she was taken into the room by a female colleague.
——
It was too late, and lody was already asleep.
Diana Dawson helped Thea into the bedroom, poured her so water, "Are you alright?"
Thea wanted to shake her head but felt dizzy, so she just quietly murmured in response.
Just lying on the bed made Thea feel unwell. She quickly supported herself up and stumbled towards the bathroom.
Diana had just started to follow when she heard the sound of vomiting.
She was taken aback, hastily grabbing a water cup and a towel to follow her.
Ten minutes later, Thea finished vomiting and sat down weakly on the ground to rest.
Diana gently helped gather her loose hair and tied it at the back, "Foreman Lynch, do you feel a bit better now?"
Thea couldn’t say a word, her mind already adrift.
It took her a while to realize where she was.
"Why did you drink so much..." Diana asked quietly.
Thea didn’t answer, reaching out to her, "Help ."
"Okay, okay." Diana used her strength to help her up and back to the bedroom. "I’ll get you another glass of water, wait a mont."
As soon as Diana went out, she ran into lody.
The latter was woken up and looked at her blankly, asking, "Hey, Diana, what are you doing here? Is Foreman Lynch back?"
"Yeah." Diana nodded towards the bedroom and whispered, "Foreman Lynch got drunk, just finished vomiting."
lody was halfway through a yawn, and upon hearing this, she instantly woke up.
"Oh yeah, my uncle just called..." She had received a call from her uncle while half-asleep but was too tired to really catch what he said.
She only vaguely rembered her uncle ntioning Thea...
lody smacked her forehead regretfully, realizing she forgot sothing.
"Well, you go get the water, I’ll call the hotel to send up so dicine."
"Okay!"
Thea didn’t rember what ti she went to sleep.
Later in the night, she vomited again, feeling stomach cramps and drenched in cold sweat.
Diana and lody were terrified and didn’t know what to do for a mont.
Diana: "S-shall we take her to the hospital?"
lody snapped back, "Yes, the hospital! You help Foreman Lynch with a coat, I’ll get Foreman Leigh and the others next door!"
The three girls going out at this ti wouldn’t be safe; they needed to find a guy.
The two quickly split the tasks. lody didn’t even put on a coat before dashing out.
Foren Leigh and Warren shared a room; Warren was the first to wake up from the noise. Hearing lody ntion Thea, he was initially impatient.
Just about to swear, lody added, "Foreman Lynch kept vomiting and is now in pain and can’t get up!"
"What?" Warren froze, then realized the situation, slipped on his slippers, and kicked Foreman Leigh awake.
Foreman Leigh’s eyes snapped open, still groggy from sleep. The next second, Warren pulled him up, "Why are you standing around? Foreman Lynch’s in trouble, we need to get her to the hospital!"
In a panic, they rushed Thea to the hospital; it was already two in the morning by then.
After checking the ti, Foreman Leigh suggested that Warren take the two girls back first.
"I’ll stay behind," Diana raised her hand, "it’s more convenient for a girl to stay."
"It’s convenient, but is it safe?"
Foreman Leigh: "Then I’ll stay too."
Warren shot him a glance, "Without Foreman Lynch tomorrow morning, you need to take charge at the exhibition. Don’t you want to rest too?"
Though his words were harsh, they did make sense.
It’s just...
Foreman Leigh looked him up and down, uncertain, "You an, you’ll stay?"
"Why not?" Warren put his hands on his hips.
Foreman Leigh stayed silent.
"What’s with that look, Leigh? Don’t insult people. Whatever conflicts I have with Foreman Lynch are work-related, I’m entitled to question her."
"But right now, we’re not at work. At the very least, I’m still a person, aren’t I?"
"..." Foreman Leigh nodded, "Then it’ll be tough on you and Diana tonight."
The next morning, at the exhibition venue.
Others were shocked to hear that Foreman Lynch was hospitalized from drinking.
"No way, shouldn’t Foreman Lynch know better at a ti like this?"
"Exactly. Foreman Lynch is so ticulous. Knowing how heavy the workload is recently, you’d think she’d pace herself with the drinking."
Foreman Leigh gave them a look, "Just focus on your work."
Near noon, Abby ca to Stratus’s exhibit, looking around for Thea and found it strange, "Isn’t Lynch here?"
"She isn’t here today."
Foreman Leigh walked up, "If you have anything, you can tell , and I’ll pass it on."
"Well, during dinner last night, Lynch signed a contract with Wynne. I thought they were joking. But this morning I found out, they were serious."
"That’s really sothing Lynch would do."
Foreman Leigh was stunned, "Really?"
"Of course, didn’t she tell you?"
Wynne’s top execs and Abby are friends. Last night, they ran into each other during dinner. After introductions, Wynne’s exec got to know Thea.
After a few drinks, Wynne’s exec learned Stratus was in robotics and hinted at a collaboration.
But his main intent wasn’t collaboration; it was just an excuse to chat Thea up.
Abby knew this too, but since Thea was single, she didn’t interfere and instead chatted with other friends.
Who knew, when asked this morning, Wynne said the contract was signed last night at dinner.
