Chapter 633: Chapter 629: Ulterior Motives
Aside from this, there was another layer of worry in people’s hearts.
“Earn Amoeba Points? How do we earn them? Money first or goods first?! I’m afraid that once we hand over this War Star, they might not pay up, and we’ll get nothing!”
So, in the end, people declined the deal.
The Apollo Civilization didn’t say anything, simply left the New Human Civilization’s Air Defense Identification Zone, swiftly and decisively, as if nothing had happened.
The behavior of the Apollo Civilization these two tis was very strange, almost like the eve of a conspiracy unfolding, leaving everyone feeling uneasy…
At this ti, Zhang Yuan and so other sensitive individuals felt sothing was off about the Apollo civilization, most likely they were not genuinely here for the trade.
But had other motives!
Zhang Yuan explained, “…We had already sent out our political signal through our previous conduct, opting not to engage in the competition for the Dyson Sphere, hence the silence over the past ten years.”
“In those ten years, there was no external disturbance.”
“Outside, it was bustling, with a lot of back and forth, quite lively, while we were quietly progressing here, aside from cursing the Reichmia Civilization a few tis at joint etings, we had no other activities, and didn’t attract much attention. Other civilizations did not prioritize us.”
“But the fact there were no disturbances before doesn’t an it will always remain so…”
“I believe that such disturbances are about to co shortly.”
“The ergence of the Apollo Civilization is a sign. The external interstellar situation has moved from the first stage to the second stage.”
This speech stirred up a buzz among the people in the eting room, with so discussing and suddenly seeming to have an epiphany, understanding the intentions of these civilizations!
The New Human Civilization was developing a War Star, which to other powers, was quite a tempting target. The War Star was only a semi-finished product, not highly capable in battle before its complete developnt.
It couldn’t move, nor could it rotate, even if so firepower was installed on the ground, it all amounted to just fixed targets.
And the New Human Civilization was rely a lone, Level 4 Civilization. From the current appearances, it had no allies, nor substantial military power.
Additionally, the New Human Civilization had previously sold so papers on “Extra Colors,” even though they had signed several confidentiality agreents, no one knows the ultimate outco, and so insiders might inevitably speculate.
This was undoubtedly high-difficulty valuable research. Any Extra Perception Technology was like a Black Box of high complexity; understanding a fraction of the mystery ant a slight advantage. If a civilization couldn’t decode it now, perhaps they would never decipher it even tens of thousands of years later.
A military expert analyzed with a bitter smile, “So, everyone, don’t think that we are a weak, unremarkable civilization. We are quite significant… Just the items we’ve exposed are enough to catch the attention of so civilizations. At least, the Apollo Civilization has noticed us, including its allies and the forces behind it.”
“The Apollo Civilization might just be a visible pawn…”
“…Throughout the process, inevitably, so civilizations will think that by rely threatening us, they might scare us into submission? Maybe they could gain so advantages? This War Star will soon possess mobility, so if they want to pressure or threaten us, they only have these few years.”
“They might think, ‘picking up a War Star for free, why not take it! Or perhaps they might extort sothing valuable! What do you say, right?'”
The room fell into silence.
Zhang Yuan continued, “Yes, this gentleman is correct. Now that we’ve rejected their offer, such diplomatic activities will definitely escalate gradually, then slowly transition to verbal and ard threats.”
“The opponent effectively uses a courteous approach followed by military, gaining just cause to put psychological pressure on us.”
“We must be prepared for this!”
After hearing this analysis, everyone felt a heart-sinking realization, a very dire possibility had occurred!
Soone asked, “Is it possible for both sides to go to war?”
“It’s hard to say…” Zhang Yuan pondered, “It depends on their willingness to fight and our determination and courage to defend this Planet Fortress. How much are we willing to sacrifice? If we were to commit all our living forces to defending the Planet Fortress, do you all think it’s necessary?”
Everyone fell silent.
The loss of all lives certainly isn’t worth it, but who would want to be extorted senselessly?
A War Star is clearly worth over a thousand AmiBa Points.
Its value isn’t too high nor too low, at least equivalent to the labor of a third-level Civilization over a thousand or two thousand years!
Additionally, Extra Perception Technology is valued between six thousand and ten thousand AmiBa Points. Fortunately, the enemy can’t be sure but can only silently guess. If Humans were more careful with information, it might not be discovered, after all, Humanity is a fully enclosed civilization with little external communication.
“Is this benefit valuable enough for them to launch a full-scale war against a Level 4 Civilization?”
Zhang Yuan shook his head, unsure in his heart.
If it involved New Human Civilization, then perhaps forget it. New Humans don’t like plundering; people generally value their own lives–what’s the use of fighting?
But with other civilizations, it’s uncertain!
No one can be sure what these alien civilizations are really thinking.
This feeling is quite concerning, having witnessed interstellar wars firsthand. Everyone knows that these wars are a matter of life and death, instantaneous, and outcos unpredictable.
Humans do not know the performance paraters of the enemy’s warships, nor does the enemy know the paraters of Human spaceships. Though there have been a few interstellar wars for comparison, every civilization’s spaceship is significantly different.
In short, the attacking side often has an advantage over the defending side. A yet-to-be-completed, immovable War Star would just be a sitting duck in battle.
Zhang Yuan said, “But if we ourselves believe that for a re War Star, to invest all our soldiers and warships, and fight to the last man and ship, is an unprofitable action…”
“Then, this extre pressure strategy itself is very successful, with a high success rate.”
A real battle would either be a complete victory, preserving our Planet Fortress, or most likely a terrible defeat, losing both our lives and the War Star.
“In that case, it’s better to withdraw.”
“With long-term preparation, it would only take half a day for our civilization to withdraw from this War Star.”
“But what is the cost of withdrawing?”
After a good while, the Information Specialist Li Zhendong stood up and said, “Let’s not talk about withdrawing for now, let us analyze from the opponent’s perspective… There should be a Greater Force behind them testing us; otherwise, a single Level 4 Civilization wouldn’t dare provoke us. We’re both Level 4 civilizations, the opponent wouldn’t co out unscathed.”
“But who this Great Force is, we really don’t know. Can we guess the force behind them?”
“Apollo Civilization…”
Several diplomats showed embarrassed expressions. It wasn’t that they were incompetent, but this place was just too complex and convoluted. There were many civilizations they had never even conversed with—how could they possibly guess who was behind this?
It might even be that the na ‘Apollo Civilization’ was fabricated!
Though there had been transactions between them in the past, knowledge of each other was minimal—it was just business at the ti.
Li Zhendong continued, “Furthermore, I believe that the Apollo Civilization wouldn’t rashly go to war. If they could overpower us by force, they wouldn’t need to behave this way… They could’ve just started the war directly, right?!”
