Soon, the Eagle-n grew restless, erupting into cheers that crashed like ocean waves. They began to gather in organized ranks, retreating toward the depths of the island. So monsters attempted to pursue them, but Ouyang Yining and the Black Army quickly cut them off. Ouyang Yining was a Blood Ancestor—a realm that could not withstand a single exchange with Lin Hui, yet against these monsters, her power was overwhelming.
Lin Hui waited until most of the Eagle-n had evacuated. Only then did he grip the Ruyi sword, draw it gently, and prepare to make his move.
Suddenly, from the thick Mist above Eagle-man Island, a massive bird's head the size of a Ferris wheel plunged through the cloud cover. It possessed dark red feathers and eyes like burning rubies. Opening its beak toward the island below, it unleashed a trendous, ear-splitting screech.
"Not good—it's a Giant Phoenix!" Ouyang Yining's expression changed drastically as she looked up at the enormous creature.
A Giant Phoenix? During this period, Lin Hui had made a thorough study of the monsters surrounding Black Cloud City. He had a keen grasp of the powerful entities that had survived the sweeping purges of the Mistborn and the Mist God pantheons. The Giant Phoenix was one of them.
This enormous avian monster, resembling a phoenix, bore eternally inextinguishable flas. Its terrifying vitality was comparable to an ordinary Mistborn; no known power could deal it a fatal blow. Once, after a Mistborn had ground it to death by sheer force, the Giant Phoenix instantly revived from its ashes. After it resurrected dozens of tis in succession, no one attempted such futility again. Because of this regenerative ability, it had been nad the Giant Phoenix. In reality, however, the beast was a man-eater—one especially fond of preying on stronger Called Ones.
Seeing a monster comparable to a top-tier Blood Ancestor suddenly appear, despair rippled through the Eagle-n.
At that mont, Lin Hui flew forward, leveling his Ruyi sword.
"Do not fear. So long as I am here, I will not allow it to harm you."
Lin Hui's voice rumbled like thunder in the ears of the Eagle-n below. He spoke in their language.
Seeing his goal achieved, Lin Hui gave a quiet nod. His long effort to hunt down the Giant Phoenix and herd it here as a prop in his performance had not been wasted. The Giant Phoenix, seething with resentnt after being driven like cattle, had been prid to vent its rage on Eagle-man Island. Lowering its head, it spotted the chief culprit directly below. Fury surged through it. Shifting targets, it lunged downward to peck at Lin Hui.
Bang!
The Ruyi sword t the massive beak head-on. Enveloped by Surrounding Wind, the blade resembled a giant blue-black broadsword, holding firm against the tens-of-ters-long red beak.
The next second, Lin Hui's figure blurred. He twisted sideways and shot upward past the Giant Phoenix's flank.
Sshing!
Sword light flickered, and a massive, bloody gash tore open across the left side of the Giant Phoenix's face.
Screech!!
It shrieked in agony and retreated into the clouds. The next instant, a spatial hollow opened. The Giant Phoenix's massive body shrank rapidly, condensing into a streak of red light before vanishing inside. The hollow faded, and the sky returned to silence.
The Giant Phoenix could freely open spatial hollows—one of the key reasons it had always managed to escape the Mist Gods and Mistborn.
Lin Hui let out a heavy breath and wiped the sweat from his forehead. Looking down at the gathered Eagle-n, a faint smile touched his lips.
"The greatest threat has been resolved. You should be able to handle the rest and settle in on your own. I will patrol the vicinity to eliminate any remaining threats to the array."
"Eagle-man Island thanks Vice City Lord Lin for your support!"
From the crowd, a tall Eagle-man with white feathers ascended into the air, clasping his fists and bowing from a distance.
"You're too kind. I have long admired Lord Sanqiong; to do even a small service for Eagle-man Island is honor enough," Lin Hui said warmly.
"Vice City Lord Lin speaks with too much humility. Eagle-man Island will not forget this favor!" the white-feathered Eagle-man said solemnly.
Lin Hui sighed, returned the gesture with a light clasp of his fists, and flew back to the Moth Carriage.
Halfway there, a terrifying pulsation of life—hundreds of tis more massive than anything before—slamd into him. He faltered for a fraction of a second, then steadied himself and returned to the Moth Carriage as if nothing had happened. Within his mind, the Star Breath Sword Canon possessed its own wondrous thod of tracking the pulsation of life—an indistinct, intuitive sensation. Each ti a new type of pulsation was gathered, a nurical prompt would spontaneously appear in his mind.
It was as if an empty plate had been divided into countless grids. Each ti a grid was filled, it sent a pulse of sensation through him. In that instant, he sensed that more than ten new kinds of pulsations of life had suddenly filled the plate. The largest surge was, surprisingly, the blurry silhouette of the Eagle-n. The rest belonged to various species—so were silhouettes of bizarre, towering trees; others belonged to different humanoid races.
Of the ninety-nine required pulsations of life, his progress instantly jumped to ninety-six.
Still lacking three...
Before Lin Hui could even calculate where to find the final three, three powerful surges of life pulsation shot out from the sea and sank into his body at extre speed. They manifested as the silhouettes of three distinct Mist monsters: the Human-Faced Shark, the Crown Octopus, and the Rotting Whale-man.
In an instant, the pulsation of life fulfilled its collection requirents. Vast, dense currents of warm energy flooded in, nourishing Lin Hui's entire body and drawing a shudder of profound comfort from him.
"Excellency? Excellency?!" Ouyang Yining's voice ca from beside him.
Lin Hui turned to find himself standing idly inside the Moth Carriage. Only a dozen seconds had passed.
"Let's go. One lap around the vicinity, then we return," he commanded briskly.
"Yes, sir!"
Under Lin Hui's leadership, the Black Army made a swift patrol of the periter of Eagle-man Island before returning to Black Cloud City.
After the mission was turned in at the Moon Tower, Ouyang Yining took charge of the aftermath. Lin Hui returned impatiently to the Clear Wind Temple and imdiately entered secluded cultivation. The pulsation of life had been fully absorbed; now he had to condense the First Layer of the Star Breath Sword Canon: the Life Form.
The First Layer of the Star Breath Sword Canon—also known as Origin One—was the absolute foundation.
Sitting cross-legged inside the seclusion chamber, Lin Hui carefully sensed the pulsation of life surging like a river through his body. mories of the Star Breath Sword Canon's cultivation rose in his mind. With practiced ease, his hands blurred as they ford seals, blooming open like a lotus flower. Simultaneously, his mind-spirit condensed three-dinsional seal talismans in the air just before his brow. Densely packed talismans took shape at blinding speed, transforming into blue-black symbols that flew into the gaps of his External Web. They quickly filled out the Web, weaving it into a long, blue-black robe.
As Lin Hui sat in ditation, the long hair trailing down his back seed to sense a threat. It spontaneously lit with a blue fluorescence, floating and dancing in the air. The strands rapidly connected to an unknown void, channeling a continuous, accelerating stream of Disaster Energy into his body in an attempt to suppress the Star Breath Sword Canon's pulsation of life.
But as the pulsation of life condensed according to the Star Breath Sword Canon, Lin Hui finally sensed another powerful Wind Force—one entirely distinct from the Wind Disaster. It was the breath of the planet itself: an infinite Wind Force capable of nurturing vitality, vast and boundless, sweeping relentlessly across every corner of the world.
Lin Hui felt the stark contrast between the two winds with sharp clarity. One was tyrannical, savagely disintegrating, and destroying everything in its path. The other nurtured all it touched—a gentle, life-giving caress.
As his comprehension of the wind deepened, the Star Breath Sword Canon's condensation accelerated. In ti, a blurry, blue-black humanoid figure erged one ter behind him. It possessed no facial features and had a semi-transparent body emitting a faint blue glow. The figure held a sword, wore long robes, and had waist-length hair—a perfect, lingering shadow of Lin Hui himself.
Yet Lin Hui knew it was no re shadow; he could split his focus to manipulate it. The figure was entirely weightless, yet it possessed all of his strength, speed, and Disaster Energy. Unburdened by mass, its speed far surpassed his own.
"Is this the Sacred Form of Life?" Lin Hui stood and turned to face the figure directly.
Sshing. He slowly drew his sword and leveled it at the entity.
The figure mirrored him, lightly raising its own blade.
The twin swords crossed, eting with a genuine ring of tal on tal—as though the phantom's weapon were a physical Ruyi sword.
Lin Hui carefully scrutinized the minute details of the Life Form while simultaneously calling up the Blood Seal to check his status. He still attached great importance to the Seal's evaluations. Even as it was evolving, his existing martial arts would still trigger information updates with each breakthrough—updates that often provided crucial directional insight.
The next mont, the Blood Seal erged at the bottom of his vision, displaying his current status with the Star Breath Sword Canon.
[Star Breath Sword Canon — Current Status: First Layer, Origin One. The Sacred Form of Life has been condensed. (The Sacred Form of Life is not a clone and cannot act independently. Once condensed, it can draw upon the planet's breath, command the atmosphere for one's own use, and control all gaseous matter within a fixed radius that is lower than one's own energy level. In actual combat, all offensive and defensive actions will manifest as a double strike when using the Star Breath Sword Canon; this strike inherits all secret arts and special effects used by the main body.)]
"..."
Though his implanted cultivation mories already contained relevant explanations, Lin Hui was still stunned by the Blood Seal's prompt. He knew most of it already—only the final clause, inherits all secret arts and special effects used by the main body, was entirely new. Evidently, this was a hidden ability of the Star Breath Sword Canon.
That clause seed innocuous on the surface, but in actual combat? If he used the Typhoon Sword Technique, the Life Form would mirror it perfectly. If he activated the Nine Eyes, the Life Form would do the sa.
Any secret art he cultivated in the future would yield double the effect.
"As expected of the Star Breath Sword Canon—it never fails to impress."
With a single thought, Lin Hui commanded the Life Form to disperse. Its condensation marked his strength, entering a new cycle of explosive growth.
The Star Breath Sword Canon did not rely solely on the Life Form's physical double strikes. More crucially, the Life Form could passively draw upon the planet's breath to further temper his mind-spirit and body, steadily elevating his power. This tamorphic process, however, would take ti.
