In the Crimson Gobi continent, the vehicle city of the Lu-Lu Tribe was filled with corpses and smoke. The surrounding tents were already burning fiercely. Except for the occasional crackling sounds from the fire, the city was eerily silent. Under the blazing sun, it actually gave people a chilling feeling.
The only relatively intact tent in the vehicle city was the central one. It used to be the residence of the Goblin Elder. However, the old goblin had finally passed away a month ago.
The successor was Ged, Didi’s father. Fortunately, Ged was not in the vehicle city at that ti. He had taken a team to “scavenge” in the Gobi, unintentionally avoiding this deadly disaster.
Now in the big tent were two human won. One was wearing a judo uniform, her long hair tied into a ponytail hanging down her back. Her face showed clear signs of distress. The other woman appeared younger, seemingly only sixteen or seventeen years old, with short bobbed hair. Her face had a playful and clever expression, making her look lively and cute.
At that mont, her eyes were gleaming with excitent, like a teenage girl who got her first Barbie doll. However, if soone saw what she was holding in her hand, they certainly wouldn’t find it amusing.
Her right arm was stretched out straight, her five fingers hooked into the skull of a goblin guard. She lifted him high into the air. A mixture of pale yellow brain matter and blood dripped down along her wrist. The goblin guard wasn’t completely dead yet; his limbs twitched involuntarily.
“Lady i, can we leave now?” Yoshida Junko glanced at the girl in front of her. When her gaze fell on the brutally killed goblin, she couldn’t help but shiver.
Sotis, she really couldn’t understand how such a gentle young man could have a sister who treated human life like grass, a serial killer. And from the expression on her face, she seed to thoroughly enjoy the process of killing.
“Hehe, scared?” Qin i giggled and casually flung the corpse she was holding. It was tossed into the corner of the big tent like a trash bag. She turned and patted Junko’s cheek, speaking in a patronizing tone, “Don’t be so glum. You’re so young, yet you act like an old woman.”
Qin i spread her arms, stood on one foot in the big tent, spun around, winked at Junko, and said playfully, “You need to be lively and cute like
to keep a youthful girl’s heart!”
Junko glanced at the corpses and pools of blood all over the ground. Her eyelid twitched slightly, and she replied expressionlessly, “Lady, did you find any useful mories?”
“Mhm, these little things only know that he went to the Elven Race’s Moonlight Forest.” Qin i squatted down, dipped her finger into a pool of blood at her feet, and put it in her mouth, sucking on it with relish. “Let’s go. Find the nearby star gate. It seems only the star gate can leave the Crimson Gobi.”
…
“We’re here, let’s get off!” Yin called out to his two companions and opened the car door.
“Is this Yorknew City?” Qin Lun looked around curiously, observing the surroundings.
Unlike the rural small town of Watt City, Yorknew City was a relatively modern city. Its technological level was roughly equivalent to that of the Earth Federation in the early 21st century. Skyscrapers stood everywhere in the city center, and the main comrcial district was particularly vibrant with bright lights and lively entertainnt, full of the bustling scene of a modern city.
Of course, similar to the Earth Federation, this prosperous modern city also had poor and struggling slums, as well as suburban areas with low-rise buildings.
Yesterday, Qin Lun ultimately chose the auction guard job from the two tasks Yin gave him.
His reasoning was simple. His main purpose for entering this world had already been achieved. After the killing intent transford into a form of Nen Ability, Joey’s combat capability had greatly improved. Thus, the main quest beca a secondary goal.
Since he hadn’t truly fought against a “Hunter” in this world yet, he wasn’t clear about his own combat level. Rashly taking on an assassination mission alone obviously wasn’t a good choice. Instead, working with Yin and Liza on the guard duty would help gather information and allow for deeper exploration of the plot.
After accepting the auction guard job, Shattered Starry Sky finally gave the main quest in the Death Notice. However, the description of this main quest was very unclear, and it wasn’t the entire content—just the first part of a chain quest.
Strangest of all, this main quest had nothing to do with the auction guard job; it was a purely killing task. The first part required him to join one of two opposing factions.
Even though Qin Lun was very clever, he was now a bit confused. He could only take one step at a ti. At least before contacting those two factions, he couldn’t make any decision.
“Yin, are there only the three of us from the organization assigned to the guard duty?” Qin Lun turned and asked his companion.
“Of course not. There are also the direct forces sent by the Ten Dons. We are considered auxiliary personnel, responsible for patrolling the city and identifying hidden factors that might harm the auction,” Liza adjusted her gold-rimd glasses and replied first.
“If not for you, Liza and I wouldn’t have co this ti,” Yin added with a smile. “The reward from our last mission was very generous. We originally planned to rest for a while.”
The dream auction in Yorknew City was a large-scale auction organized by the Mafia. The auction items were mostly highly valuable art treasures and antiques.
However, because the Mafia’s influence in Yorknew City was very strong, the auctions in previous years had no problems. The Shadow Beasts organization didn’t pay much attention to the auction’s security. The reason the Mafia’s direct Shadow Beasts under the Ten Dons were dispatched was because the auction period also coincided with the Ten Dons’ annual council.
The Ten Dons were the leaders of the Mafia organizations distributed across the six continents of this world. The council they ford was the highest-level coordination body for the Mafia organizations. Due to their respective interests, Mafia organizations worldwide had wars and disagreents every year. The annual council played a significant role in diating these disputes.
Although most of the Ten Dons wouldn’t attend in person, they would send their representatives. However, for security reasons, it was still publicly announced as the “Ten Dons,” and the Mafia’s direct Shadow Beasts would be responsible for the guard duty.
To be precise, the direct Shadow Beasts of the Ten Dons were sowhat different from Qin Lun and the other two. Although they were also Shadow Beasts, they no longer belonged to the actual Shadow Beasts organization but took orders directly from the Mafia bosses.
Qin Lun actually didn’t know that he had, to so extent, altered history. Originally, apart from the direct Shadow Beasts of the Ten Dons, no one from the Shadow Beasts headquarters would participate in the guard duty during this auction.
Unlike the young man’s choice, most of the other six thugs from teor Street selected assassination missions. For them, they were more accustod to direct combat rather than being as cautious and hesitant as Qin Lun.
Yin was right about one thing: he and Liza ca to Yorknew City this ti entirely because of Qin Lun. The young man had agreed to join Yin and Liza’s small group and would act together with them in the future.
Most of the formal mbers of the Shadow Beasts organization had learned Nen Ability. However, in terms of combat capability, the thugs from teor Street undoubtedly had the strongest potential for advancent.
These people had always lived in the harshest environnts, where fierce battles occurred frequently, and they faced the threat of death every day.
In this survival-of-the-fittest environnt, the teor Street thugs possessed stronger combat willpower than other Shadow Beasts mbers. As long as they were honed for a while and not corrupted by the glamorous world, most of them would beco very powerful Nen Ability users.
However, most teor Street thugs were bloodthirsty and had strange temperants, making it difficult for them to integrate into other small groups. Soone like Qin Lun, who appeared gentle on the outside, was extrely rare.
In the underground city of Watt City, Yin and Liza had actually sparred with Qin Lun a few tis. Partly due to training requirents, and partly as a test.
During the sparring, Qin Lun didn’t hold back. He displayed all the combat abilities he could use. While Yin and Liza were testing him, he also wanted to see the combat level of Nen Ability users in this world.
To their surprise, even though Qin Lun had only learned the basic “Four Major Principles” of Nen Ability, after the complete transformation of his killing intent combined with his gun skills, he demonstrated combat power not inferior to Yin and Liza.
In the eyes of Yin and Liza, this young man from teor Street had completely t the standards of a formal Hunter. He only lacked practical combat experience against Nen Ability users.
Although in terms of Nen Ability application, Qin Lun only knew “Ten” and “Hatsu,” and almost never used “Zetsu,” but his seemingly endless “Hatsu” skills made them consider him a genius.
Actually, the so-called “Hatsu” skills Qin Lun used were basically the Apostle Skills he originally possessed.
For example, the attribute damage attached to the Burial of Light and Darkness bullets was seen by Yin and Liza as a type of Transmutation Nen. The Pentagram Crystal Mirror was considered Emission. Added to that was Manipulation from his simulation ability, and Conjuration from the Dagger of Sin. Qin Lun displayed a total of four types of “Hatsu” abilities.
Qin Lun’s performance both shocked and delighted Yin and Liza. In their view, the young man was a Specialization Nen Ability user with huge potential. Moreover, compared to other teor Street thugs, Qin Lun had a temper that could be called model youth, making the two finally decide to pull him into their small group.
Out of consideration for taking care of Qin Lun, Yin and Liza changed their original plans and ca with him to Yorknew City, intending to provide so experiential help during the young man’s first mission.
“Haha, thank you both,” Qin Lun smiled and nodded, then asked, “We’ve arrived. Do we need to report sowhere now?”
“No, no need. Your task is to investigate potential dangers in Yorknew City. When necessary, appear to notify the Ten Dons and their direct Shadow Beasts.” Yin pondered for a mont, then had a slight idea. “Perhaps we can take a shortcut. I rember the Nostrade Family is also participating in this auction…”
