Alliance Base, Rock City

After Aaron left the five prisoners in the custody of the receptionist, he left for ho. The receptionist called for so guards to take the unconscious guards to their prison cells, while he went to make so calls.

Usually, they would be thrown into the prison cells after verifying things about them. There were incidents where a few tried to make use of the chaos to secure so funds by throwing so weak, innocent people under the bus, but were caught.

So, unless verified, judgnt can’t be passed, and neither can the rewards.

He is just a receptionist, and he can’t verify anything about them. Though that was the case, running away from a young patrol suggests that they might have either done sothing wrong or been wronged by so patrol mber.

He had already notified, and soone would co to verify. Whether these five are innocent or were actually major criminals, cultists or just so random goons who ran away when they saw a patrol mber, which happens from ti to ti as the patrol mbers are to maintain peace in society.

These five might be thieves, but from what Aaron said about them signalling each other using the watches when they were caught, it didn’t sound like they were thieves. If they were, they were certainly not normal thieves.

So, he didn’t loosen their bonds at all. Instead, they were directly taken to different prison cells. Only after soone verifies information about them would anything change for the better or worse.

An hour later....Prison Hold...

Screams could be heard from the prison, multiple screams.

The receptionist rubbed his head in pain. More than an hour ago, everything was silent, just a typical day here in the Rock City, but it all changed within half an hour.

He was rubbing his head, not because he felt sympathy for the ones screaming in pain. No, it was because of the increased paperwork due to what happened just an hour ago.

When five prisoners were delivered to the base, he didn’t think much about them. He believed that those five could be so low-level criminals or maybe cultists of a lower rung, but what they learned just half an hour ago changed everything.

Everything that he thought might turn out to be wrong.

Those five were cultists, which the interrogators found easily, but the thing was, they were mid-level cultists, not so low-level ones who would know nothing.

Once that was known, a high-level interrogator was called from sowhere else, who arrived in the city using the teleportation circle, which was activated because of the ergency.

From what the primary interrogator extracted, it seems the matter was essential and urgent, which needed an imdiate response. So, expending a few resources didn’t feel like a waste.

Once the new one ca, the interrogation turned into a horror show.

The interrogators are essentially professional with mind-reading skills. There is a profession called Mind Scryer, which has a better way of reading one’s mind. They can make the most of the situation.

For example, when one uses mind-reading skills on a person, there would be damage to the mind of that person. As long as it was done on the surface, the damage would be minimal and not perceivable, and could heal after a ti.

Digging deeper is dangerous, and one needs to have better skills to avoid damaging the minds of the people they want to read to.

As damage sets in, the amount of mories one can read from other minds would be limited. So, the best way to get more information is to cause less damage to the mind of the interrogated person.

Mind Scryers can read the minds of persons, with the slightest damage to the mind. Only when they dig deep into the mind, so deep into the mind, would they cause more damage.

Obviously, the interrogator is not a Mind Scryer nor one with better skills. That can be easily estimated from the screams of those five.

Hearing the painful screams caused by the damage to the minds of those five, the receptionist left the area nd waited outside. Even standing outside, he could hear those screams clearly.

He wanted to leave. This is not the work of a receptionist, but with too few helpers allotted to the base here, he has to take multiple roles.

A post in such a remote city was supposed to be a less tense job, but he was coming to understand that there are no stress-free jobs, anywhere in the world.

---

When the interrogators left the prison, the receptionist asked them, "Did you learn anything important?"

"Yes, we did, and it was not a small thing. They were planning to cause chaos in the city, and not just this city. The Cults have ordered to cause chaos and death in multiple Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities", the interrogator said as he briskly walked away.

There are many more important things to do, like quickly passing the information to his higher-ups. The faster he can report this matter, the better the chance of saving more lives.

He has extracted the details regarding the Rock City, but the five didn’t know much about other cities where the attacks would take place simultaneously. Whatever was known to them, the interrogator quickly extracted everything that mattered, or at least that’s what he hoped.

As the interrogator left to inform his superiors, the receptionist followed him behind, knowing that, given what little information the interrogator had spilled to him, there would be more work to do.

---

"Sir, given what we know, should we call all the security and patrol mbers?" the receptionist asked.

He just heard everything that the interrogator revealed.

Tonight, if they didn’t prepare, tomorrow it would be the day of funerals.

The superior thought for a while, "No, but discreetly send orders to everyone who was on duty. If more appear on the street suddenly, they could get wise and disappear. From what we knew from those watches, they have a way to know if sothing happened to others. So, we need to be careful as well".

"Send orders to so top-tier professionals in the city, if possible, and make sure it is done discreetly. Prepare the forces, while I will relay the information to my higher-ups. Hope that they would find all the cultists in other cities as well", the superior spoke.

Hearing those words, the receptionist sighed. They were lucky enough to catch the leaders of the operation here in this city. So, they were able to find everything regarding the attacks in the city, but that was not the case in other cities.

There is a high chance that a lot of deaths would happen in those cities. Even in this city, he was not sure, despite having information about everyone involved.

"Yes, Sir", the receptionist nodded, and started to relay orders to mbers who were on duty.

---

Elsewhere in the City...Midnight...

"Hmm, why has nothing started?" one of the ruffians who stood in the abandoned warehouse spoke.

"Maybe sothing happened, which delayed the start", another whispered.

"What do you think, leader?" the first one asked.

The third person scoffed, "I feel sothing’s wrong".

Not a minute after he said those words, everything went to hell.
