Gunfire echoed through the air as Raven and Alara hid behind the battered bookshelf, bullets flying into the spines of encyclopedias and shredding old book bindings. Alara narrowed her eyes, then shifted to the right side of the shelf. Her fingers swept aside a pile of books on the shelf in front of her. Without hesitation, Alara pulled her arm and punched through the wood with her fist.
Boom.
Her fist punched through solid wood like paper. Leaving a gaping hole behind, as fragnts of splintered wood flew away from the hole her fist made. Alara slid the barrel of her pink AK-203 through the opening and fired it.
In that instant, Raven sensed sothing strange about Alara.
Alara’s blue eyes are glowing now glowed with a regal erald-blue hue in them, as a regal aura began to swirl around Alara like sothing ancient was awakening. Raven froze, as a fragnt of a mory ignited at the edge of her mind. Looking at Alara is like watching soone crowned with regal authority. Sothing buried deep inside her past life's mories stirred at this sight, but Raven could not grasp who Alara in this mont reminded her of.
But Raven said nothing, only continuing to watch Alara. Raven knew whoever Alara was in the past ans nothing to her now. All that matters is they are together here in the present.
Alara opened fire. Not just suppressive fire. Her aim went beyond that as her eyes allowed her to see through the wooden blocking her face. Alara wondered to herself are my powers awakening as well in this mont as she acted on instinct when she fired her Ak-203 like this?"
The first shot hit a Raider in the chest, nocking him back but it was the second shot that was the lucky one. Her bullet hit a grenade dangling from the man's chest belt holding his knife and ammo as well as grenades he use's in a battle.
BOOM.
The explosion ripped the air apart, engulfing him and the Raider beside him in fla of wood and tal shrapnel. The ground shook beneath them as bits of concrete and marble rained from above Raven and Alara. Torn pages and burning paper floating down from the second floor to lay on the ground.
No ti to breathe as Alara saw four more enemy Raiders running at them through the bookshelf.
Alara’s eyes flashed for a mont as she called to Raven. "Push the bookshelf forward with , Raven they have backup incoming!"
Raven didn’t ask questions. She rose and braced herself against the back of the bookshelf. Together, they shoved if forward. The groan of wood and shifting weight propelled it forward as the shelf fell towards the ground.
CRASH.
The bookshelf fell forwards like an avalanche, slamming down onto three of the four incoming Raiders before they could react. Screams echoed out but were cut short.
SPLAT. SPLAT. SPLAT.
The shelf and its load of bullet-riddled hardcovers books flattened their bodies into human-shaped pancakes.
One man remained standing having avoided the bookshelf. He ca to a halt, raising his AK-47, face pale in horror. He pulled the trigger.
Click. Click. Click.
"What the fuck?! I just cleaned this thing this morning!" The man yelled out.
His AK-47 jamd from the bolt jaming against the ejection chamber.
He had no idea the presence of Alara in front of him might be disrupting the fire of his gun.
With a snarl, the man tossed the assult rifle aside and drew a long Bowie hunting knife from his belt. Rage twisted his face as he said. "You bitch! I’ll get you for destroying our base! Adam will reward well for bringing you to him!"
Alara stepped forward, the pink of her sports bra catching the dim light of the library. Her eyes never left his as she said to Raven.
"Leave him to ."
Raven nodded, her head responding. "You've got this, girl."
In one smooth motion, Alara placed her rifle into back inside the system space. In its place, she summoned her weapon of choice a solid aluminum bat, polished and painted a neon pink. It glowed with embedded green eralds along its body. Stones she and Raven looted from a jewelry store a few days ago.
She loved eralds not for their value, but because they matched Raven’s eyes.
Lifting the bat onto her shoulder, Alara t the Raider’s charge head-on.
