THE NEXT DAY

Eryx jolted awake with a violent gasp as icy water crashed down on him, soaking his clothes, his bed, his sheets, everything. Cold bit into his skin as he sucked in a sharp breath as his heart slamd against his ribcage.

He wiped water from his eyes and looked up.

Henry stood there, bucket in hand, a smug, satisfied grin stretched across his face.

Rage like no other exploded through Eryx’s vein. He moved ready to tear him apart, when he felt a sharp pain exploded through his leg as a heavy lock snapped into place around his ankle.

He froze.

"I’m sorry, Eryx," Philip said quietly, guilt written all over his face. "Those are the orders."

The mont Eryx felt the lock settle, he knew, he was finished for today.

That damn lock. His worst nightmare. It drained all his strength, his wolf, his power, leaving him with nothing but flash and bone. Totally useless.

Eryx sneered, but before he could even gather himself, two other n stord into the room. They grabbed him roughly, hauling him out of bed like a criminal.

He struggled to free himself, but the lock held him down. His body refused to respond the way it should have.

Downstairs, his father stood at the center of the sitting room.

His mother was there too, crying openly, hands shaking as she silently begged her husband.

Laila on the other hand was crying as well, being held tightly by two n. A lock glead around her ankle too, placed there to stop her from doing sothing reckless. Everyone knew what she was capable of when she lost control.

His father was such a cunning bastard.

The guards shoved Eryx forward and forced him down onto his knees. Pain shot through them as he hit the floor. His hands were wrenched behind his back and tied tightly.

Roland looked down at him.

His hands were folded behind him, his posture relaxed as if he was entertaining a fool. His eyes, however, were anything but calm. They were cold, murderous, as though he was seconds away from killing him with his bare hands.

"So," Roland said. "Are you sorry for what you said to your Alpha last night?"

He tilted his head slightly. "Say it now, and I might lessen your punishnt."

Eryx scoffed, lifting his head despite the pain.

"Lessen my punishnt?" His lips curled. "Alpha Draven... do. your. worst."

"Eryx!" Seraphina cried desperately. "Please, shut up...please!"

"No," Eryx snapped back, voice raw. "I will not."

Roland smiled slowly. "I see you still haven’t learned your lesson."

Eryx rolled his eyes.

Henry’s voice cut in from behind, dripping with arrogance. "Dad, leave him to . I know how to deal with assholes like him."

Eryx snarled, red flashing in his eyes.

"I dare you. You and your father."

Everyone knew the truth. Henry couldn’t stand a chance against Eryx on his worst day. Even a half-asleep Eryx would destroy him.

The only reason Henry was brave now... was the lock.

Roland began circling Eryx slowly, like a predator savoring the mont.

"I know you’re used to the whip," he said thoughtfully. "So I brought sothing different this ti. Sothing to help you recover from your madness."

He stopped in front of him. "Apologize now, and I’ll give you only one punishnt. Refuse... and I’ll use both."

Eryx could hear it, his mother’s sobs, Laila begging him with broken cries. But he didn’t budge.

He would apologize over his dead body.

"I won’t apologize, even if you use silver on ." He spat. "So like I said, do. your. worst."

He spat at Roland’s feet.

Roland snapped. His boot slamd into Eryx’s side, sending him crashing onto the floor. His bound hands twisted painfully beneath him.

But Roland wasn’t done, he stepped forward and kicked Eryx brutally in the stomach.

Eryx gasped, air tearing from his lungs.

Seraphina scread.

Laila fought harder against her restraints.

Roland’s kicks rained down on Eryx stomach for the forth tis, rciless, each one driving the breath out of Eryx until blood bubbled up his throat. He coughed violently, blood pouring out of his mouth.

Seraphina threw herself forward, desperate, trying to shield her son.

But Roland slapped her across the face that she literally saw stars.

She hit the ground hard.

Eryx snarled, blood sared across his lips, eyes blazing red, but another kick slamd into his stomach, forcing more blood from his mouth.

Laila sobbed uncontrollably.

Finally, Roland stepped back, breathing heavily.

Eryx collapsed, his body trembling.

Suddenly to n dragged a large bucket of water forward.

They hauled Eryx upright again, forcing him to kneel in front of it.

Realization hit Seraphina. She scread and threw herself at Roland’s legs, clutching him desperately.

"Please, Roland, please don’t do this! What if he dies?"

Roland didn’t even look at her. He kicked her away like she was nothing more than dirt beneath his shoe.

Eryx, on the other hand, was barely holding himself upright. Blood dripped steadily from the corner of his mouth, staining the floor beneath him. His body trembled from exhaustion, but his eyes, were burning with anger.

Before he could even process what was happening, a nylon was yanked down over his head.

Panic exploded through him, instantly.

Eryx jerked violently, the sudden loss of air making his chest seize. He shook his head, desperately trying to claw the nylon off his face, trying to free himself, but failed. He gasped, sucking in nothing but fabric.

He tried to stand.

Two n slamd him back down.

Without rcy, the guy’s hands clamped onto his head and shoved it down, forcing it straight into the bucket of water.

Laila scread. "You motherfucking bastards! Let him go!"

Seraphina’s cries shattered the room. She sobbed uncontrollably, her voice breaking as she pleaded with her husband.

"Please, Roland! He’s going to die... please!"

Eryx fought, hard, trying to break free from their grasp.

His body convulsed as instinct took over, every fiber of his being screaming for air. He kicked, struggled, strained against the hands holding him down, but they only pressed harder. Water flooded his senses.

He couldn’t breathe. Neither could he think. His strength drained faster, and faster than he thought was possible.

As darkness crept in at the edges of his vision, he could only think of one person.
