She gathered her hair at the back of her head and secured it with a hairpin, her delicate and bright face looking straight ahead.

In this Japanese-style room, everyone was dressed in gorgeous kimonos, and Dubian Che’s eyes had begun to blur, barely able to distinguish one person from another.

But as soon as Jiutiao ijie entered, it seed as though all the vivid colors had faded, leaving only hers.

Although she was always the center of attention and spoke in a commanding tone, this was the first ti she exhibited such a distinct display of elegance and nobility.

Jiutiao ijie walked over to Dubian Che and sat down slowly.

As they sat close to each other, Dubian Che noticed the small chrysanthemum flowers embroidered on her chest.

While he was observing, Jiutiao’s mother whispered sothing to Jiutiao ijie, who then flashed a pleased smile at him, startling him.

That devilish smile seed to hint that his end was near.

Just as Dubian Che was wondering what he had done wrong this ti, the tea ceremony began.

Servants entered in a line, bringing sweets and a box of tea utensils.

Jiutiao’s mother said with a smile, "ijie, why don’t you make the tea?"

"Yes," Jiutiao ijie replied, standing up and moving to the hearth in the center of the room to start boiling water for the tea.

Curious, Dubian Che watched her intently.

Her movents in brewing tea, neither rushed nor slow, using the teapot, small tea spoon, handle spoon, and other utensils neatly placed back after use, clearly showed she knew each step by heart and was very skilled.

While Dubian Che didn’t quite understand, he could recognize the grace from her posture from chest to knee.

Outside, it had already grown dark. The room, lit by dim lights, reflected soft light on everything from Jiutiao ijie’s hair to her colorful kimono, and even the small hands.

Around her, it seed as if flowers were blooming and butterflies were dancing.

Dubian Che found it hard to connect this Jiutiao ijie with the girl who ordered killings with a smile.

After the tea was brewed, Dubian Che tasted it.

He didn’t understand these things and felt it wasn’t as tasty as barley tea.

"Mr. Dubian, how is ijie’s tea?" asked Jiutiao’s mother.

"Hmm... it’s like the early sumr," he replied, since it was early June.

If this tea ceremony had been in spring, in Dubian Che’s mouth it would be the fresh fragrance of young leaves.

In any case, it was seasonal.

Dubian Che threw a glance at Kiyono Lin’s mother across the table, worried that she might also have the ability to see through lies.

"Mr. Dubian, have you also studied tea ceremony?" Jiutiao’s mother continued to inquire.

"No, but it feels very tasty."

Jiutiao’s mother nodded gently and then turned to the others.

As the second person began making tea, Dubian Che could stand it no longer.

He whispered to Jiutiao ijie’s ear, "My feet are numb, can we change our position?"

Sitting in seiza was too torturous, almost like being punished.

Dubian Che had endured until now because of his physical training, strong willpower, and his concern about displeasing Jiutiao ijie.

Now he just wanted to sit cross-legged or stand up and walk a bit.

Jiutiao ijie, looking into his pained face, started laughing.

She stood up, gesturing for Dubian Che to follow.

Relieved, Dubian Che pushed himself up from the tatami, stood slowly, and followed her out of the Japanese-style room to the corridor.

He stomped his foot. "I’m exhausted, when will this tea ceremony end?"

Jiutiao ijie walked silently.

Dubian Che had no choice but to follow her, carefully not stepping on her trailing kimono.

"What did my mother say to you?" Jiutiao ijie suddenly asked.

"Ah? Oh, this... she ntioned you like to lose your temper and asked to take care of you. I said I like your feisty nature."

"What else?"

"She also said, if you bully , I can co to her anyti and she would scold you for . Of course, I wouldn’t do such a thing."

"What did you tell my mother?" Jiutiao ijie seed to ask the sa question.

"Digging for potatoes in the countryside, fishing, then chilling waterlon in the river."

"Anything else?"

"Midterm exams I..."

Jiutiao ijie stopped, turned around, and said with a cold smile, "Do you only tell the truth when I’m angry, is that it?"

"..."

Well, soone had tipped her off!

"I admit it, I confess," Dubian Che raised his hand, "I said you’re sowhat spoiled, but..."

Dubian Che couldn’t finish his sentence because Jiutiao ijie’s expression was very, very hostile.

If she weren’t wearing a kimono, Dubian Che believed she would have kicked him already.

"I’ll have soone take you back," she said, then turned around and walked back towards the Japanese-style room.

Thinking he was about to be punished again, Dubian Che stood rooted to the spot, his face a picture of disbelief.

Had he really escaped unscathed?

But he imdiately ca to his senses.

Who cares, as long as he could leave.

He walked briskly towards Jiutiao ijie’s bedroom, intending to change back into his own clothes.

By the ti he reached the bedroom, a servant told him the clothes had already been dealt with.

"Dealt with?"

"Yes." The servant nodded. "The young lady ordered it while she was bathing."

Bathing? Right, she had just returned to change into a kimono.

Was it over? Was the implication that he was ant to go back unclothed?

"Sorry for the trouble."

"You’re welco, young master."

Dubian Che’s face darkened as he headed to the tea room.

He wasn’t going back!

On the other side, after Jiutiao ijie returned to the tea room, she looked displeased.

Her mother noticed and asked, "What’s wrong? Did you have a fight with Mr. Dubian?"

"Mother," Jiutiao ijie lifted her head, "why didn’t you tell about the rude things he said?"

"This child is too honest, tells you everything." Jiutiao’s mother laughed girlishly.

"Honest?" Jiutiao ijie scoffed.

"Where is he? You didn’t send him away, did you?"

"He said his legs were numb and he couldn’t stand it, so I had soone send him back first."

"Numb legs? That’s quite rude. Next ti, bring him here, and I’ll train him properly. If he can’t even sit properly, how can..."

"What is it, mother?"

"You said he couldn’t stand it?" Jiutiao’s mother looked at Dubian Che as he walked back in.

Unlike his slightly lazy deanor at first, he now looked resolute, as if this Japanese-style room was a sea of fire on a blade.

Jiutiao’s mother’s gaze carried a hint of satisfaction.

It was normal for soone from the countryside to initially struggle with sitting and other rules, but backing down was no way to beco a son-in-law of the Jiutiao Family.

The fact that Dubian Che could have gone back but chose to return made her think the young man didn’t need special training.

Learning on his own was of course the best.

Jiutiao ijie watched Dubian Che return, feeling sowhat puzzled.

When Dubian Che sat beside her, she asked, "Why didn’t you go back?"

"No clothes."

Jiutiao ijie was startled, then suddenly rembered the clothes she had casually ordered to be discarded while she was bathing, and burst into laughter.

In Dubian’s eyes, that was a mischievous smile.

He sighed heavily through his nose.

"Upset?" Jiutiao ijie asked with a smile.

"..."

"Co, my Mr. Dubian, have so tea." Jiutiao ijie lifted her cup and handed it to him.

Dubian Che took a sip and finished it.

"How is it?"

"Bitter."

"Hmm." The matron, Jiutiao’s mother, let out a light cough, and with an ’my child has made a mistake’ expression, she apologetically nodded at Kiyono Lin’s mother.

Hmm?

Dubian Che incredulously glanced at Kiyono Lin’s mother sitting opposite, signaling that everything was fine, then turned his head back to Jiutiao ijie.

Jiutiao ijie, wearing a vibrant kimono, leaned on Dubian Che, laughing until she barely had strength.

She whispered teasingly, "Mr. Dubian, that’s quite rude. How could you speak that way about Kiyono’s mother’s tea?"

"I..."

Jiutiao ijie tapped Dubian Che’s nose and said, "Be careful, Kiyono might get upset, she’s very close to her mother."

"...I didn’t."

After the tea ceremony concluded, a servant had already purchased new clothes for Dubian Che.

"By the way," Jiutiao ijie, who had changed clothes beforehand, pointed to the kimono he had taken off, "take this with you as well. I had this made especially for you, take care of it like the socks I gave you."

"Could I have simply worn this ho earlier?"

"Yes."

"Why didn’t you tell sooner!"

"Are you commanding ?"

"No, I an, we need to communicate better between us."
