"Report anything you like, but Jiutiao ijie will always be the top for , and I hope you can jot that down without changing a word."

Finally free from the annoying journalists, Dubian Che returned to Class Four.

After lunch break, people didn’t keep teasing him, as after all, it was a top private elite high school, and it was in the Island Country, which greatly valued atmosphere.

Each student at Goda was aiming for top universities like Tokyo University, Kyoto University, Keio, Waseda, and Nagoya, which were ranked among the top ten in the Island Country. Naturally, most ended up in universities ranked around thirtieth.

Only the top students could be sure of getting into the Imperial University, while mbers of the Human Observation Departnt almost certainly could secure recomndations for admission without going through the Joint Entrance Exam or secondary tests organized by universities.

However, if so students only managed to get into universities ranked below sixtieth like Kyoto Prefectural University, Miyazaki University, or Yudogong University, they would really be laughed at in Goda.

In this atmosphere where no one wanted to be discriminated against, midterms proceeded orderly.

At five forty on May 30th, after finishing the last science exam and the class leader’s speech, the whole school started a major clean-up.

"Dubian, co here," Xiaoquan Aonai called.

Capitalizing on his position in the back row and preparing to grab the most intact cleaning cloth, Dubian Che had to let others take that opportunity.

"Mr. Xiaoquan, what’s up?" he asked, following him out of the classroom.

Xiaoquan Aonai didn’t go to the teachers’ office and started talking in the hallway.

"There might be so students who failed the midterms this ti."

Dubian Che thought for a mont, "You an, you want us to tutor them again?"

"Yes, that’s what I was thinking, so I ca to ask for your opinions," Xiaoquan Aonai nodded.

At Goda High School, failing wasn’t about low scores, but about low deviation values.

The deviation value is about ranking within the group of scores, and it’s not directly related to whether the numbers exceed a certain mark, like the classic 60%.

Honestly, Dubian Che didn’t want to agree; this could completely be sorted by spending more money on a pricey private tutor.

But, Xiaoquan Aonai was exceptionally nice to him, and she had kept diating for him since yesterday’s campus confession, so it didn’t make sense to decline.

"I’m okay with it, but you’ll have to talk to the others yourself," he nodded.

Xiaoquan Aonai smiled and playfully tousled Dubian Che’s ssy yet surprisingly appealing hair.

"Teacher, if you like kids so much, why not have one of your own?" Dubian Che said flatly as he moved her soft and gentle hand away.

Xiaoquan Aonai sighed, "I would love to, but I don’t even have a boyfriend."

"You don’t?" Dubian Che was surprised, "Mr. Xiaoquan, you’re so beautiful and you don’t have a boyfriend? I always thought you were already married."

"Maybe I’m too picky," Xiaoquan Aonai joked.

"What kind of requirents do you have?" Dubian Che asked curiously.

Xiaoquan Aonai counted on her fingers, "Gentle, masculine, understanding, loyal, kind and smart."

Dubian Che replied without thinking, "Isn’t that just ?"

Xiaoquan Aonai tapped a teaching plan on his head, and teased like a young girl, "Wait until you really beco a ’Tokyo Handso Guy’, then you can flirt with your teacher."

"Not far now, not far now. I’ll be there once I move up to second year."

Xiaoquan Aonai didn’t continue this potentially disruptive student-teacher topic and asked, "How are things going with you and Jiutiao?"

"You know, no one can resist my charm."

"I really don’t know," she laughed softly and reminded Dubian Che, "The teacher knows you’re popular with girls, but since you’re together, you can’t be fickle. Jiutiao’s family is not ordinary, so don’t feel too pressured, and if it really doesn’t work, learn to let go."

She added, "Although a ’Tokyo Handso Guy’ should be confident enough to accomplish anything, it doesn’t an he necessarily can do everything."

"Got it," he responded.

"Alright, go help with the clean-up, or people will think I’m favoring you and letting you slack off."

"They probably prefer cleaning to being scolded by the teacher, right? They might be mocking right now, though of course, the boys would be exceptions."

With a weary look, Xiaoquan Aonai glanced at Dubian Che, "Hurry and go, stop talking nonsense here."

"Understood."

Dubian Che returned to the classroom when Kunii Shuichi threw a rag at him, "Dubian, I snagged this for you."

"Brother!"

After Dubian Che had nearly finished wiping a window, the big cleanup was almost over, and students started leaving school one by one with their backpacks.

Dubian Che, looking through the bright, clean windows to make sure he could clearly see the crow feathers on the playground fence, finished cleaning up.

He waved to Kunii Shuichi and Saito Keisuke who, waiting for him, had been pretending to be rock stars with their brooms to pass the ti, and the three of them left school together.

On the way ho, they played indoor baseball for a while and had dinner at KFC, then went their separate ways.

That evening, as Dubian Che watched "Downton Abbey" and did push-ups, a call ca from his hotown.

"Ah Che, exams are over, right?"

"Yeah, but the results won’t be out until next week."

"Are you coming ho for the three-day weekend? The lotuses and plums are ripe."

"Mmmm—" Dubian Che was torn; he missed the atmosphere back ho, but he also found the twelve-hour round trip botherso.

"It’s okay if you don’t co; I’ll send so to you."

"That would be great, thanks, Mom."

"By the way, Ayako said she’s going to Tokyo this week for a trip, take good care of her."

"Wait, wait, wait, Mom, I think I’ll co ho after all; I haven’t seen Little Lian in ages."

"I’ve already promised Ayako."

"Then why ask if I’m coming ho?"

"I knew you’d find it botherso and wouldn’t want to co."

"... My phone’s out of battery, gotta go."

The TV show just then aptly quoted,

"When sothing bad happens, there’s no point in wishing it hadn’t happened. The only option is to minimize the damage."

"Is ’Downton Abbey’ that good?"

It was hard for Dubian Che to imagine how impressive Kiyono Lin really was, having seen this series long ago.

But then he thought, Kiyono Lin surely wasn’t doing push-ups while watching the show. So even if he was temporarily behind, he might still co out stronger overall soon, even if their knowledge levels were the sa.

Thinking this, Dubian Che felt energized and started doing one-ard push-ups while morizing that quote.

After his workout and a shower, Dubian Che guessed Yuzao Haoi, who must be at ho playing with her phone by now, definitely needed a break after the exams.

He sent her a line ssage.

"Are you free?"

Dubian Che put on his headphones, tuned into an English-language radio station, and looked out the window.

In his view, there was a high-end apartnt building far away from which one could look down on the surroundings.

It was now ten o’clock at night; the lights in each ho lit up life below. One of those lights might just be Kiyono Lin’s room.

The ssage still showed "unread."

Before going to sleep, Dubian Che sent another ssage.

"There’s sothing really important I want to discuss with you. Please reply when you see this."

The mont he hit send, Dubian Che felt particularly like a jerk.

But with four days left until the event ended, he needed to find a way to get back together with Yuzao Haoi no matter what.
