On August 26, the second day of the Kantou Competition.

Although I wanted to make the most of the last days of sumr vacation and continue practicing, as a high school club, it was dood that we couldn’t devote all our ti to the competition.

"Does anyone have any good suggestions?" Komatsu Misaki, the Wind Instrunt Club President, stood on the podium in the music classroom.

"Why not just play the competition pieces?"

"Exactly, that way we wouldn’t waste any training ti."

"Right now, I just want to practice, practice, practice!"

"I understand how everyone feels, but the competition pieces alone aren’t enough," Komatsu Misaki stated with difficulty, "This year, the school has allocated thirty minutes for the Wind Instrunt Club, and our competition pieces only last twelve minutes. To deal with the extra ti, we must practice new music. Kiyono agrees with this point too."

Everyone turned to look at the far side of the classroom where guests sat; there was Kiyono Lin, the beautiful and intelligent girl who, unfortunately, was otherwise utterly useless, sitting calmly.

The wind on the cusp of autumn stirred the white curtains, swaying the girl’s black hair and sketching a scene straight out of a youth movie.

Facing everyone’s gaze, Kiyono Lin nodded.

Her nod was far more convincing than Komatsu Misaki’s, and imdiately, no one opposed anymore.

"So, what piece shall we pick?" Yuzao Haoi, who played the tenor horn, asked.

"Better to choose sothing simple to save practice ti."

"Too simple isn’t good either. Rember, we are the first team from Goda High to win the gold dal at the Kantou Competition and represent Kantou in the national competition!"

"...Aren’t you a bit too proud?"

"Actually, simple is fine too. Most people who co to hear us play won’t understand wind music, choosing a currently popular song might actually be more popular."

"That’s true, we’re going to play the competition pieces anyway, and anyone who truly understands will not question our skill level."

"So, which songs are popular now and have suitable scores?"

"Not sure. If I’m not training, I’m on my way to cram school, I’ve been completely out of touch with society."

Everyone was more or less in the sa situation, just about to resort to Google, when Dubian Che said, "How about ani songs? Like the songs and insert songs from ’Demon Slayer’ and the ending song from ’Sword Art Online.’ These two ani are very famous, lots of people have heard of them, and there should be wind music versions available online."

"’Sword Art Online’ I know, but what’s ’Demon Slayer’?"

"It’s a new ani that’s supposedly super popular," Dubian Che added, who learned about it from Kunimi Shuichi and Saito Huijie.

He’d been busy lately working on his Transcendent Level double-reed performance, and hadn’t watched any ani.

"It’s super, super popular!" A boy in the percussion section got excited, stood up, bent forward, and gestured a sword-drawing pose with his drumsticks, "Focus, and reach the peak!"

No one paid him any attention.

Even Dubian Che had no idea what he was doing.

After a brief silence, Komatsu Misaki spoke up to relieve the boy of his awkwardness.

"Then, let’s decide to pick songs from popular ani. We don’t have extra ti to spend on selecting music. Section leaders and seniors, co to the tenor horn section classroom for a eting to finalize the specific songs. The rest of you, practice on your own."

"Yes!"

The scene above was the Wind Instrunt Club preparing for September’s Cultural Festival.

After the morning practice, in the Human Activity Departnt’s classroom, after lunch, as Dubian Che was reading a book, he asked Kiyono Lin, "What should we do?"

Goda’s school rules dictate that during the Cultural Festival, in addition to classes, every official club must present sothing unique.

"Survey questionnaire."

"A survey questionnaire?"

"Yes. A survey on people’s views about lying."

"What’s fun about that? Boring," Dubian Che complained.

He had looked forward to the exotic customs of events like the Cultural Festival and sumr festivals with fireworks; he’d finally left his village hoping for a campus life akin to ani, but in his first sester, he’d unexpectedly ended up with a girlfriend—though pretty and wealthy—his first cultural festival faced him with the utterly boring task of handling a survey.

Not even half as fun as last life’s flea market.

"Then what do you want to do?" Kiyono Lin asked without looking up, flipping a page of her book.

"How about forming a temporary band? You sing, I play guitar, and we’ll get iji involved too, singing the songs from ’Slam Dunk’ and ’Dragon Ball.’"

"I don’t really like standing on stage, managing the Wind Instrunt Club is a necessity."

"That’s not up to you." Dubian Che slamd his hand on the table, "I declare at this school festival, our SOS Brigade must do sothing fun!"

"SOS Brigade?"

"Ah, my mistake, it’s the Human Observation Departnt. The Human Observation Departnt must do sothing more interesting!"

"On what grounds?"

"With our grades, we get only one freshman year, which ans only one freshman school festival. A once-in-a-lifeti event should be made unforgettable, right?"

"You eat every al once in a lifeti, do you get to eat exactly what you want every ti?"

"That’s different! Although each al indeed occurs only once in a lifeti, there are many als, so you can look forward to the next one," Dubian Che argued.

"What’s the difference? There’s only one freshman cultural festival, but there’s one for sophomore, junior year, and every year in college."

"This..." Dubian Che couldn’t argue with her, "Regardless, I disagree with conducting so survey."

Kiyono Lin sighed as if she couldn’t stand him anymore, "You can make suggestions, if there’s an activity that I find interesting, I don’t mind changing it."
