Mu Cidian bought so raw food to bring ho.
Before returning ho, he specifically instructed his mother to go downstairs and buy him a bottle of special soy sauce, claiming he would cook soy-flavored duck for her that night.
Only after making sure his mother had left did he go inside, stripping off his dirty clothes, quickly cleaning the stains on his body, and changing into another clean outfit. By the ti he erged, his mother had already returned.
She didn’t notice anything unusual about Mu Cidian and watched as he went into the kitchen.
As he walked into the kitchen, he was searching on his phone, presumably for cooking instructions.
Wan Quan was accompanying Mu Cidian, just that, without any intention of helping, watching as Mu Cidian made sowhat clumsy al preparations.
Actually, Mu Cidian had never done this before.
He just felt that everything shouldn’t be too difficult as long as you’re willing to learn.
Following the online tutorial, he prepared that night’s dinner.
Surprisingly, the taste was even better than he had expected.
Of the soy-flavored duck, Wan Quan ate at least three-quarters, while Mu Cidian only ate a bit.
To be precise, he only ate a bit of everything.
Since being imprisoned, he had hardly been able to eat much. A little bit each day seed sufficient, as he never felt particularly hungry or had the urge to eat more.
He watched as his mother savored her food.
As she ate, she said, "Cidian, it’s been a while since mom had a al this good. It’s been a while since I ate at till I was full."
Mu Cidian pursed his lips.
Wan Quan said, "I really thought I was dood to a life of poverty. I’m glad you’re out of prison now. Now I’m relying on you..."
Tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke.
Mu Cidian comforted her, "Things will get better."
"I know, I know." Wan Quan wiped away her tears, then was struck by a thought, "Cidian, how did your job search go today?"
"Not bad," replied Mu Cidian casually.
"Did you find a stable job?"
"Probation period first."
"How’s the salary?"
"Around 10,000 during the probation period."
"After probation, it should go up to 20,000 or 30,000, right?"
"Approximately," Mu Cidian nodded.
"Although not much, but for our current situation, it’s good enough." Wan Quan heaved a sigh of relief.
Mu Cidian didn’t say much.
"Cidian, I knew you would pull through. Our life will not be bad! We’ve finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel!" Wan Quan was slightly excited.
Mu Cidian still didn’t say much. He took out 1000 yuan from his pocket and gave it to his mother, "This is the salary advanced by the company, you take half for now, see what else needs to be bought for the house."
Wan Quan stared at the 1000 yuan in front of her with ecstasy, gratefully took it and said, "Okay, okay."
But then rembered sothing, "I still owe 50,000."
"I’ll think of a way to deal with that. You just take this 1000 yuan for now and buy whatever is needed for the house. I may be busy at work and won’t have ti to cook, so you would need to buy groceries."
"Alright, I’ll take it then." Wan Quan said excitedly.
Mu Cidian chuckled.
After dinner, Mu Cidian cleaned up the dishes and tidied up the kitchen.
After finishing, he quietly tidied up all the rooms in the house, including his mother’s room.
Though he couldn’t provide a lavish lifestyle for his mother now, he could try to make her more comfortable. His mother was used to a comfortable environnt and had never done these chores. Even though they had fallen to this low point now, deep down, she still wished to be served by others.
After tidying up the rooms.
It was getting late.
Mu Cidian slept on the sofa.
Though the sofa was small, Mu Cidian was tall. Though he was currently fairly slim, it was still difficult for him to sleep in such a small space.
After making sure that his mother was asleep, he turned on the light to treat his wounds.
The falling steel pipe hadn’t hit any vital parts, but there were so superficial injuries. Although the pain was initially not severe, probably due to numbness from shock, he now felt the pain quite intensely.
He endured and finished treating his wounds. He then massaged his swollen shoulder with difficulty before laying down, catching his breath.
But when he lay down, he found it hard to sleep. It wasn’t due to the environnt, but habitual insomnia.
The next morning.
He left ho early.
He didn’t want his mother to suspect anything.
He continued job hunting.
He inquisitively visited many companies, submitted resus, and waited for news. In the end, he was well aware that it would be hard to find any job other than hard labor.
He went to a construction site, again.
He verified that there were no connections between this construction site and the Xin Corporation before applying for the job.
His role was the sa as at the previous site, starting with carrying steel bars as soon as he began his shift.
He had done so heavy labor in prison, so it wasn’t unfamiliar to him.
The construction site provided a lunch, which was quite poor. As soone with a poor appetite, Mu Cidian ate very little.
A fellow worker warned, "Young man, how can you survive on so little food? The hard labor we do here all day will lay you low sooner or later!"
Mu Cidian smiled in gratitude, but continued to eat little.
While dining, his phone suddenly rang.
Every ti he received a call, he was overwheld with an intense feeling, hoping that it might be a company willing to employ him...
Hastily setting aside his lunch box, he glanced at the incoming call and felt a bit let down. He answered, "Xiao Yiming."
"Big Brother Mu, I spoke to my classmate. He said you can join us at the KTV. The monthly salary is 3,000, one al is included, and there’s overti pay as well as tips, which don’t need to be reported. Since graduating from high school, I’ve been working part-ti here, and on three occasions I’ve received over 1,000 in tips."
"Thank you," he replied.
"Then co by tonight, start working at 8 o’clock and co over at 6 o’clock on your first day, you’ll need to register and do so basic server training. But it’s all really simple; you can finish everything in 2 hours, I’ll handle everything for you when I get back to the city."
"Alright."
Xiao Yiming then spoke excitedly for a while before hanging up the phone.
Mu Cidian put down the phone.
He could make about 5000 on a construction site in a month, and over 3000 in a nightclub, which adds up to 9000. If he lived frugally, he could save 6000 a month. While it seed like a tall tale to repay 50,000 in three months, there would always be a way and once he had a good financial basis, he could do many things.
He left the construction site at 5 in the afternoon and then took the bus to the place Xiao Yiming had ntioned.
Xiao Yiming was waiting for him at the gate. Seeing the dirt stains on his clothes, he imdiately ca forward and said, "You’ve found a new job again, is your health okay?"
"It’s nothing."
"Co with , I’ll take you to et my classmate."
Mu Cidian followed Xiao Yiming into the nightclub.
A familiar yet unfamiliar place.
Xiao Yiming’s classmate wasn’t really in charge here, but his classmate’s uncle was the human resources manager, so he had so power and getting a server in wasn’t a difficult task. But obviously, Xiao Yiming did do Mu Cidian a big favor.
He completed his registration, collected his uniform, and after changing, he started learning server tasks with Xiao Yiming, like how to hold a tray, how to pour drinks for guests, how to help guests order songs and dishes, etc.
Mu Cidian quickly mastered these tasks.
Xiao Yiming taught while saying, "I knew Brother Mu was an educated man, I can feel it."
Mu Cidian didn’t answer.
"You must have experienced a decline in family fortunes," Xiao Yiming guessed.
It was indeed because Mu Cidian gave off a different vibe from other people.
He didn’t talk much and seed to be in need of money, but he could adapt to any environnt, even terrible ones. His temperant was different from others. He had an air of nobility, untouched by the dust on him, which made Xiao Yiming feel he was different from ordinary people.
Mu Cidian did not respond to Xiao Yiming’s guess.
But in Xiao Yiming’s mind, it had beco a fact.
At 8 p.m.
Mu Cidian officially started work on his first day.
He was originally supposed to work in the private room with Xiao Yiming, but a server in a VIP room fell ill suddenly and couldn’t make it. The nightclub manager randomly picked soone to replace him and Mu Cidian happened to be passing by. It wasn’t specifically him being extra targeted; he just happened to be called in halfway.
The KTV was large with many servers, so the manager likely didn’t know it was Mu Cidian’s first day at work. Mu Cidian didn’t dare to refuse, as his position was a bit precarious and he was afraid he might lose his job.
The manager gave him a few simple instructions, "This is a VIP room for the top-tier clients in Jin City. Do your own work well, but also rember, no matter what insult you might suffer inside the room, you can’t fight back, you can only endure. If there really is a problem, as long as you perform well, we’ll make it up to you afterwards."
"Yes."
"Go to work now, the custors will arrive in half an hour."
"Yes."
Mu Cidian went to the VIP room.
He had been there before, but it was too long ago and the décor had probably changed many tis, making it completely different from his mories.
He and three other servers quickly prepared the drinks and snacks the custors had ordered.
Everyone was waiting at the door to welco the guests.
While they were waiting, the servers chatted amongst themselves.
One server said, "Who knows if there’s going to be a big deal tonight?"
"Usually, people who book this room have so heavyweights. There should be sothing at least."
"I don’t even know who’s coming; if it’s won that’s the best - won tip the best. n are usually just interested in the hostesses."
"As long as there’s a sale, it’s all good. You’re not selling your body or your kidney, why do you expect so much?"
"If the sales are good, I might consider selling..." The server said jokingly.
"Look at you. If a rich woman liked your appearance, with the number of guys here, you wouldn’t have to be a server."
"Can’t I dream?!" The server retorted displeased.
The servers, who are mostly young, seem to have a good relationship despite trading barbs.
They were chatting happily when suddenly,
The lobby manager appeared.
Everyone imdiately beca extrely respectful,
Bowing their heads in unison, they said, "Welco."
The two won behind the lobby manager entered.
The servers didn’t get a good look at the guests but knew they were females.
They were quietly pleased because won at such venues are usually more generous than n, who have a clear objective in their head.
A server respectfully opened the room door for the guests.
Once the guests went in,
The lobby manager reminded them, "Serve them well."
"Yes."
Only after the lobby manager left,
Did the four servers enter.
Inside the slightly dim private room,
Two won were chatting.
Of the four servers, two were pouring drinks, one was helping pick songs, and one was standing by to assist with anything needed.
Mu Cidian was one of those pouring drinks.
They had to crouch down to pour drinks for the guests.
Mu Cidian kept his head down the entire ti.
Filling their glasses to the brim.
As soon as he did, a pair of clean, slender hands took the glass from him, grabbed another one, and said to her companion, "Here, Lina. Now that we’re here, we’ll drink until we drop tonight."
