Currently outside, wrapped in thick robes, two individuals were walking around the north side of Alterian. They moved carefully through streets that, just a week ago, had looked vastly different compared to now. The change was impossible to miss.

Large sections of the roads were cracked and uneven, and many of the surrounding buildings bore deep scars from battle. Entire chunks of stone had been torn away, leaving exposed interiors that had yet to be repaired. Craters marked the ground where powerful spells had struck, and shattered walls lay scattered across the streets as silent reminders of the chaos that had recently taken place.

It was clear that fights had broken out all across the area, but there was no one actively repairing the damage. So places looked abandoned, while others had been hastily reinforced. Not all buildings were destroyed, but even those still standing were surrounded by makeshift barriers. Earth magic had been used to raise thick walls around key locations, and mages stood watch atop them, scanning the streets below for threats.

The two continued walking forward at a steady pace, neither of them speaking as they took in their surroundings. The tension in the air was unmistakable.

Suddenly, five n dressed in tattered robes stepped out from between two damaged buildings, blocking their path. Their clothes were worn and dirty, and their eyes were sharp with intent.

"Hey, hey, a group of two?" one of the n said with a crooked grin. "That’s quite rare in these parts."

He stepped forward slightly, clearly the one leading the group.

"Why don’t we just cut to the chase," he continued. "Hand over your supplies and we’ll leave you be. If you don’t want to do that, then..."

The man lifted his hand, and flas ignited around his fingers. The others followed suit, each of them revealing themselves as mages. Five against two.

The two cloaked figures stopped walking.

They slowly pulled back their hoods, revealing their faces, though the n standing before them showed no sign of recognition.

"Hey, we really don’t want any trouble," Liam said calmly. "Look, we don’t even have anything on us."

"You think that would work on us?" the mage scoffed. "We can see you have a storage ring. And the only reason people pass through here is to get supplies. Otherwise, they wouldn’t risk being outside at all. Don’t say I didn’t warn you."

Without waiting for a response, the man hurled a fire spell toward Liam’s feet.

Before the flas could even touch the ground, Liam had already launched himself forward. The fire crashed harmlessly behind him as he closed the distance in an instant. He grabbed two of the n by the face and slamd them into the ground with overwhelming force. The impact echoed through the street, leaving both of them unconscious.

Liam turned his head just in ti to see that his partner had already finished dealing with the rest.

The remaining n had been smashed through walls or thrown across the street, lying groaning on the ground. One of them was lifted off the floor, held firmly by the neck.

"Every ti there are new idiots like you trying this," B shouted, her grip tightening slightly. "Do you want to get my hands bloody?!"

"Leave them be, B!" Liam called out, then chuckled to himself. "If we keep taking all of them out, there won’t be anyone left to warn others not to ss with us."

B clearly didn’t want to listen, but after a mont she released the man and let him collapse to the ground. The two then continued walking, stepping over the fallen mages as if nothing had happened.

They eventually reached their apartnt, one of the few buildings in the area that hadn’t been completely destroyed. That was largely thanks to Raze, who had placed several powerful enchantnt spells on the structure itself, reinforcing it against attacks.

After the Noble Guild had been created, the world had changed rapidly and drastically.

Many believed they were no longer governed by the rules of the Grand Magus, and that belief alone had caused chaos. Conflicts that had been held back for years suddenly erupted. Guilds that once avoided confrontation no longer restrained themselves, leading to full-scale battles across different regions.

So governnts attempted to replace the lost authority with armies or police forces, but they quickly realized the truth. Many guilds were simply too powerful to control. The checks and balances that once worked had relied on the presence of the Grand Magus. When that almighty force disappeared, the fragile balance of the world collapsed with it.

Certain areas had beco complete free-for-all zones. Businesses struggled to survive, and travel beca dangerous. In response, so of the larger and more powerful guilds stepped in. They protected civilians, ensured supplies continued to flow, and established controlled zones to keep order. Walls were raised, patrols were ford, and territories were claid.

Inside the apartnt, Liam let out a long sigh and opened his storage ring, pulling out food he had managed to gather earlier.

"Man," he muttered. "This is like an apocalypse or sothing. But instead of monsters, it’s mages. I never thought I’d see the day."

B crossed her arms. "We mapped the area like you asked. We also noted which guilds nearby are still functioning properly and maintaining control. Do whatever you want with that information."

Liam looked at the supplies spread across the table, then at the maps and notes B had provided. His expression slowly shifted as a thought ford in his mind.

"I have a suggestion," he said. "With us protecting this place, and people starting to trust guilds again... if you want to build your own force to face Idore, why don’t we just make our own guild?"
