Chapter 288: Chapter 288 : Xie Jianyu’s Pain (1)
"I don’t understand," Lady Song pinned her son with a glare. "Previously, we said that Little Xie should not leave Fuxi Palace because he should not move about. Since he ended up leaving the Heavenly Realm, why not just return to Longjing Palace upon coming back?"
Zhang Fengxi had no answer to give. Zhang Zhiyuan thus tried to placate his wife by saying, "Dear, ah, we should be happy that our son-in-law is back in the Heavenly Realm. I am thinking of coaxing the Emperor to stop giving him tasks like these. It is dangerous for him to continue traveling between realms like this..."
Zhang Fengxi rubbed his weary eyes and let out a heavy sigh.
The tangled web of lies he had woven was growing increasingly difficult to maintain, but at least the Heavenly Emperor knew the truth. That was one small relief.
"Palace Master, Palace Mistress, Prince Fengxi, the Shuiran Palace Master and Mistress have co to pay a visit," a servant announced.
The three people inside the room exchanged puzzled looks.
"Did you invite them to co?" Lady Song shot her husband a glare. Ever since she had the pleasure of exchanging pleasantries with Xie Jianshen in Fuxi Palace, the latter had beco so kind of a rival to her.
"Uh, no. Well, I assu Jiang Rufeng has sothing to talk to
about."
"And why must he bring his wife along?" Lady Song demanded to know.
"My Lady, how am I supposed to know...?"
The couple exited the room, leaving Zhang Fengxi alone with his thoughts. He wondered if Xie Jianshen had read his ssage and understood the hidden aning.
Although he had managed to convince Xie Jianyu to return to the Heavenly Realm, he was still not welco in Fuxi Palace. The atmosphere at Xie Jianyu’s palace was beyond oppressive, with the entire staff living in constant fear since Head Servant Zhou’s interrogation a week ago.
"Prince Zhang Fengxi, why don’t you show
around the Longjing Palace for once?" A male voice called out to him, startling him out of his thoughts.
Zhang Fengxi’s lips parted in surprise when he saw Xie Jianshen standing in front of him.
"... Shuiran Palace Mistress. And I thought that you accompanied your husband for so palace visit."
Xie Jianshen let out a burst of cheerless laughter.
"If anything, he is accompanying . Don’t you know that married ogas are not allowed to et other alphas without their husbands around?"
... Speak about restrictions of freedom for ogas.
"Co now."
Without another word, Xie Jianshen turned around and left. Zhang Fengxi followed behind him as they headed toward an empty courtyard.
"I visited Little Yu yesterday," Xie Jianshen said. "We had a fight. Heh."
Xie Jianshen’s lips curled into a sardonic smile as he spoke the words. How ridiculous. He was not the type to have a fight with soone. Even the term sounded childish. When he disliked soone, the person instantly beca his enemy.
Once soone was branded as his enemy, Xie Jianshen would relentlessly work to undermine and destroy them, savoring their downfall with a cruel and vindictive glee.
But he was currently talking about his only brother. His only blood brother.
Xie Jianshen let out a derisive scoff.
"What happened? Did he not believe you when you said that you didn’t start it?"
Xie Jianshen pinned Zhang Fengxi with a glare.
"I never claid such nonsense."
If there were a table to flip, Zhang Fengxi might just flip it.
"Dearest Brother-in-law, did you not understand the ssage I sent you???" He asked in utter disbelief.
A contemptuous harrumph escaped Xie Jianshen.
"Zhang Fengxi, putting aside that I do not need anyone to protect
like a weak, defenseless oga, do you think that Little Yu is that stupid?"
Zhang Fengxi rubbed a hand over his face and let out a heavy sigh. He had never thought of Xie Jianyu as the gullible type, but he had hoped that his wife’s love for his only brother would outweigh his anger and that he would overlook the elder oga’s mistake, no matter how egregious.
Apparently, he was wrong.
"What now?" He asked.
"What else is there to do? You are the father of the child. You better take full responsibility after you impregnated my brother."
Xie Jianshen’s eyes glistened with unshed tears, or perhaps it was just an optical illusion. But the hoarseness and fragility of his voice when he spoke a mont later confird Zhang Fengxi’s suspicions.
"Take good care of my Little Yu. I cannot be around him for now."
Xie Jianshen left, and Zhang Fengxi banged his head repeatedly against the nearest tree.
Good grief.
Zhang Fengxi grabbed his spear and climbed on top of Xiao Huang’s back.
"To Fuxi Palace," he said.
The oppressive atmosphere of Fuxi Palace remained unchanged since Zhang Fengxi’s last visit.
As expected, the guards barred his entry, their faces grim and resolute and their spears held at a nacing angles.
Zhang Fengxi raised an eyebrow at the two figures who dared to block his path.
"Really now? I am still the Crown Prince Consort."
"Our deepest apologies, Prince Zhang Fengxi. His Majesty does not wish to see anyone at the mont," one of them answered gruffly.
"Move or I will blow you away from the gate," Zhang Fengxi snarled impatiently. His hand hovered over his weapon, ready to strike, when a voice bood from the top of the stairs.
"Prince Fengxi, WAIT...!!!"
The one who called out to him was none other than Mingyu, who hurried down the steps to greet him.
"Prince Fengxi, please co back another day. His Majesty is not in a good mood."
Zhang Fengxi sighed.
If Xie Jianyu was in a good mood, then he did not need to co, did he?
"Of course, he is in a bad mood," the alpha growled. "Are you letting
in or not?"
"Prince Fengxi, you don’t understand," Mingyu snapped, her anger was hardly concealable. "Qingyun is gone."
