Chapter 254: Chapter 254 : Restitution (4)

In a fit of rage, Xie Jianyu insisted on going to Shuiran Palace to get so explanation. Despite Zhang Fengxi’s offer to take him for a ride, he chose to ride Wangshu instead.

Until Lady Song begged him with tears in his eyes to please not endanger the grandchild in his belly.

Begrudgingly, Xie Jianyu thus agreed to take a cloud carriage to Shuiran Palace. Not alone, but in accompanint of his dear husband.

Xie Jianyu was quiet during the entire ride.

Zhang Fengxi himself was rather occupied with his own thoughts.

What a coincidence, he thought.

A female person eavesdropped on his conversation with Xie Jianshen, and Mingyu landed inside the lions’ enclosure.

What if the two incidents were related?

Zhang Fengxi lifted his gaze and stared at Xie Jianyu.

The abortifacient dicine was still tucked inside his qiankun bag. Two days had already gone by, but he was not able to make any decision yet.

Technically, a fetus was not a baby.

But it was going to grow into a baby.

His baby.

Their baby.

The image of his blue-faced son flashed through his mind again. The pain of rembering was akin to having a vicious blade stab his heart multiple tis.

He had already lost that tiny life once.

He did not want to lose him again.

He could not kill his unborn child with his own hands.

But then what about Xie Jianyu?

Whose life was more important, the mother’s or the child’s?

"We are here."

Xie Jianyu’s voice pulled Zhang Fengxi out of his trance.

"Oh."

Xie Jianyu pushed the carriage door open and climbed out.

The guards knew him not only as the Crown Prince but also as the younger brother of their palace mistress.

"Your Majesty..." The guards greeted him by crossing their spears against their chests.

"I wish to speak to your prince," Xie Jianyu said without skipping a beat. "Let

through."

By chance, Jiang Muchen was available. He was in the shooting ranges, practicing his shooting skills. When he fired three arrows from his bow at once and they landed at the center of the target board, the servants broke in applause.

And then Jiang Muchen raised his head and saw two people enter the shooting field.

It was his beloved Little Uncle, Xie Jianyu. Jiang Muchen’s heart ward up when he saw the oga.

... And his annoying pestilence of a husband.

Jiang Muchen’s gaze hardened in an instant. He tightened his grip around his bow, wondering if he could fire at Zhang Fengxi "by accident" and get away with it.

"Muchen, I need to talk," Xie Jianyu wore a serious expression on his face.

Jiang Muchen handed his bow and quiver to a servant.

"Is this about the female maid?"

"Yes. Tell

everything that you know."

Jiang Muchen did not have much to tell.

"I was brushing the mane of my spiritual lion near the enclosure when I heard her scream.

I went to investigate, and found her being attacked by several lions at once."

Xie Jianyu pulled a grimace.

"How could that happen? How did Mingyu even get inside?"

"I also don’t know," Jiang Muchen said. "It has never happened before."

"Mingyu would never throw herself into a horde of hungry lions. Sothing must have happened. Maybe soone..."

"Little Uncle..."

Jiang Muchen pulled at Xie Jianyu’s upper arm and dragged him to the side.

This naturally did not sit right with Zhang Fengxi, who imdiately pulled Xie Jianyu back to his side.

"Manners, Jiang Muchen. Do not touch my wife as you please."

Jiang Muchen glowered at Zhang Fengxi.

"Little Uncle, I need to tell you sothing. Alone."

Xie Jianyu nodded in apprehension.

"Fengxi, I want to hear what Muchen has to say. We won’t take long."

Zhang Fengxi crossed his arms before his chest with a disgruntled expression on his face as the other two distanced themselves from him to speak alone.

"Little Uncle, Mingyu was still conscious when I pulled her out last night," Jiang Muchen said in a low voice.

Xie Jianyu’s eyes lit up.

"Did she say sothing? Did she get pushed?"

Jiang Muchen’s face beca complicated.

"She did not say anything of that sort, but she begged

not to take her to my mother."

"..."

Xie Jianyu was rendered speechless.

Did his elder brother do this to Mingyu?

No, impossible.

Jiang Muchen shared the sa view.

"If it was Mother, Mingyu would not even leave a corpse behind."

"..."

They never talked openly about it, but everyone who knew Xie Jianshen long enough also knew the extent of his capabilities.

Xie Jianshen did not do anything half-assed.

"I also don’t know why Mingyu said that, but she is your personal maid, Little Uncle, so... I treated her wounds discreetly and then smuggled her out of the palace early this morning."

"... You have my utmost gratitude."

Jiang Muchen shook his head fervently.

"I did not do that to earn your gratitude. Little Uncle, I... You have been distant ever since you got married."

Jiang Muchen was a grown alpha, but at this mont he looked like a discarded lion cub.

Xie Jianyu could not help but raise a hand and caress Jiang Muchen’s cheek, just like he often did in the past.

"I still dote on you. Muchen, I got married, but my affection for you will never change."

The sa thing could not be said about the Crown Prince Consort, who was watching his wife caress another alpha from a distance.

If he "accidentally" threw Three Realms Spear from here and it hit Jiang Muchen, could he get away with it?

"Zhang Fengxi."

Xie Jianshen’s voice rang out behind him.

Zhang Fengxi turned to look at the Shuiran Palace Mistress, who was crossing the shooting ranges and walking in his direction.

"Brother-in-law, we et again."

Xie Jianshen stopped next to Zhang Fengxi. He did not look at the alpha but at Xie Jianyu and Jiang Muchen, who stood together at the other end of the shooting ranges.

"Muchen supposedly took a little bird out of Shuiran Palace this morning," the elder oga said with an unhurried tone. "I wonder if it were the sa bird that flew past my private chamber yesterday."

He naturally referred to the eavesdropper that they failed to catch yesterday.

"Did you do it?" Zhang Fengxi asked without looking at Xie Jianshen.

"No," Xie Jianshen answered calmly. "But for our sake, it is better if that bird does not sing."
