Chapter 252: Chapter 252 : Restitution (2)
Xie Jianshen rose to his feet. He walked toward a tall, multi-tiered wooden rack that adorned the entire wall behind him. Various jugs and pots and vials of different sizes, colors, and types stood neatly on each level, albeit without any tags or descriptions.
This was Xie Jianshen’s foolproof thod to avoid thievery. He was the only person who knew the extent of his collection, shelf after shelf.
Xie Jianshen’s hand moved toward the third shelf from the top. He removed a small, inconspicuous, brown clay pot from a neat row of similar pots, took off the lid, and then took a sniff at the content.
Once he was sure that it was indeed the item that he was looking for, he returned to his seat with the clay pot tightly clutched in his hand.
Zhang Fengxi stared at the clay pot with a dark expression.
"What is that?"
"The child is yours and Little Yu’s," Xie Jianshen smoothened the ends of his sleeves. "I have no right to dictate your decision."
Xie Jianshen set the clay pot on the table and tapped at its lid.
"This dicine is made from a special plant that not many know about. It will allow the fetus to slip out of its mother’s womb gently. Little Yu will not feel any pain."
"..."
"The earlier, the better," Xie Jianshen added while pushing the dicine in Zhang Fengxi’s direction.
Xie Jianshen barely finished his words when Zhang Fengxi suddenly jumped to his feet.
"Who is there?!"
The general bellowed in the direction of the door.
Both of them rushed toward the door and opened it, but there was no one outside.
All they saw was the small courtyard that lay at the center of Xie Jianshen’s private residence.
"Was that just your imagination?" Xie Jianshen asked in a low voice as he stepped out to the verandah. His eyes darted left and right, but not a single soul was around.
There were neither statues nor trees or walls to hide behind. Only a small garden full of plants and herbs.
"No," Zhang Fengxi insisted. "There was soone. I heard a gasping sound of a female."
Shuiran Palace was full of female maids.
"No need to worry, even if a maid heard our conversation, she would not be able to share the information outside the palace without any consequences."
Coming from Xie Jianshen, this was a scarily believable statent.
"Did you infect every single person in Shuiran Palace with Gu Worms?"
Xie Jianshen sneered at Zhang Fengxi.
"What a baseless accusation. Do you have any evidence to support your claim?"
Zhang Fengxi shot the man before him a wary look. Did he even need evidence? This was the very person who stuck him with a Gu Worm years ago.
A while later, the two n shut the door and returned to the chamber.
Not a single movent was seen outside of the chamber.
Underneath the wooden floor, a maid was lying on her stomach. Eyes round from shock, she swallowed her saliva a few tis to digest what just happened.
Mingyu was used to run to Shuiran Palace to ask for Xie Jianshen’s advice whenever Xie Jianyu fell sick.
This ti, too, she ca with a basket to collect so dicine to treat her master’s fever.
She did not plan to eavesdrop at all, but when she heard the word "baby
