ru started explaining things step by step. First of all, her father's na, back when he lived on Earth, was Bruno Wube. That detail wasn't in the book. Darian had the sa last na — it ca from his father, and obviously, that wasn't a coincidence.
It wasn't ru's father who arranged that, even though he was the Heaven's Will. She explained that there are rules, and he couldn't ss with people's karmic cycles directly. Everyone had to make their own choices. Destruction or peace — both were just reflections of what ca from within people.
But in the book, Darian knew the Earth's universe beca special. Bruno Wube had been born there, and when he returned after a long ti, he found a huge problem.
Because of what he'd done to defeat a divine enemy, all universes were deeply affected. He had no idea how far the consequences would go. But one ancient power ended up rging with the laws of Earth's universe.
It was one of the primordial chaos items. There were nine of them. This one in particular had the role of helping mortals. In the end, it got affected while it was in Earth's universe.
There were only two options: destroy the entire Earth's universe to remove it, or let it fully rge. If he picked the second option, everyone born there would carry a piece of its power inside them.
That's how the Awakened were born... actually, everyone in that universe had it within them. But throughout life, they might awaken it — or not.
The main traits soone needed to awaken it were two: willpower and imagination. It worked that way because of the specific power of that Primordial Chaos Item.
ru's father chose the second option, of course. Then he went on and collected the other eight items, preventing more problems like this from happening again.
At first, it wasn't a big deal. But as technology on Earth and other planets advanced, people stopped doing exhausting physical work and let their imaginations run wild. It didn't take long before the number of Awakened exploded, to the point where chaos started breaking out.
That's when he — the Heaven's Will — stepped in. In this case, since he had direct influence on those events, there was karma attached to him, which gave him permission to act — though with limits.
As a fan of Earth's 21st-century fantasy stories, Bruno created the Spiritual Guardian system, mixing it with a superhero kind of structure. He gave them purpose and rewards. Every ti soone awakened, the system acted to control the Awakened's power and shape it toward that goal.
But the ancestral Awakened... that was a rare case. Those were people the Heaven's Will couldn't influence at all.
They had special karma with the world and had to make their own decisions. Their powers still got shaped by the system, but there weren't any strict rules or boundaries. Basically, those people were free to do whatever they wanted.
The Heaven's Will also created the altars and changed Earth's geography — all to better separate people and avoid wars over the High Humans.
He even used his ex-family on Earth — the one that ran that secret organization — and made them help with this goal as a way to cleanse their karma.
Of course, all he did was move the pieces and offer options. It was humans who chose to build empires and make those stupid rules on their own.
Darian was stunned by all this. Not only was he distantly related to the protagonist of the story; his father had been part of that family that helped change the whole world.
His mom had once told him that they used to live a very different life before his dad died. Could his death be connected to all of this?
Even worse... Darian and his siblings still carried that last na... those people must still be hiding on Earth, and that karma could co knocking on their door again soday.
Now, about the connection between Bruno and Darian, and the fact they shared the sa last na — it was because they had karma between them, like ru had already said.
Darian was born into that sa family, naturally. When the Heaven's Will saw that, he understood Darian had been born at just the right mont to fulfill a major purpose. ru didn't say anything else about that and changed the subject.
According to her, the Divine Protection Universe — the one used to train the Spiritual Guardians — was a very unique place, and it was on the verge of being destroyed. So, it turned out to be the perfect link between the two universes, allowing them to help each other.
About the Risen, she said coldly: "They're puppets of a very problematic person. He's your first test and your first target. The one you must devour and rise above. After him, there are way worse enemies."
Darian took a deep breath... so soone really did create the Risen — all of them. Whoever that is must be insanely powerful. Not even with nine rings could he imagine beating that person. But... this was just a test?
ru let out a sigh. That book on the altar floated into her hand:
"This book is an ancient compilation of my father's deeds. This universe was one of the last places he beca a deity, right before the final battle. You read it in the story — at the end of everything, he tried to erase all trace of himself. My father never liked being worshipped, and if people knew the Heaven's Will, that could lead to trouble."
"But so people didn't want to forget him. Since he couldn't just force them, he directed everything into a single book in each universe and then sealed it. Once all the Heralds, Priests, and people who knew him died, only a few with karma tied to him could read the book. And by doing so, they connect with him. You can think of it as a legacy for the next generations."
After saying that, she paused and looked at Darian seriously.
"There are four other books like this, in four different universes. The mission in this universe you're in right now is considered rank D. The others are, obviously, in places ranked C, B, A, and S. Everything was set up so you can level up little by little and get them."
"The missions to these places will co in increasing order. In five years will be the next one, and so on. You need to get stronger and do whatever it takes to reach those places, got it?"
Darian swallowed hard. The clan he was in temporarily was ranked C-D. He didn't even know if he'd stay there, but now he was basically being forced to join an S-rank clan just to have access to the higher missions?
And even then, just being in one of those clans didn't an he'd actually get picked.
ru practically read his mind and said, "The missions go to Earth, not the empires. They've got a rotating agreent among themselves. My dad can't change that. You'll have to find your own way to get into those missions."
Darian froze. How the hell was he supposed to do that?
"Oh? Where's that bravery from earlier?" she mocked. "If they don't wanna give you the mission peacefully, then use force. The world's simpler than you think. Be fair to those who are fair, but so idiots only listen when you hit 'em."
He took a deep breath and nodded. ru saw the fire in his eyes and went on:
"Back to the start of all this. I said I'd destroy your universe before, right? That wasn't a lie. We're just putting it on hold for now, because you showed you've got at least a bit of potential."
"But... he wants to destroy the place he also lived in?" Darian asked, tense.
"It's not my dad's fault, it's the karma of the people. If you can't fix that... it's gonna get way worse. It's better to destroy everything early than let that happen." She said it bluntly, not going into details. Obviously, there were deeper reasons. "Anyway, give it your all to evolve and get the other four books. If you fail or die along the way, don't worry. Your universe, and the Dragoness's universe, will both be destroyed shortly after."
Darian was speechless. Not long ago, he'd been just a coward. Now, he was just trying to survive. He always thought he wanted to fight and get stronger just to protect his family... and now, two whole universes were on his shoulders?
He took a deep breath and cald himself, muttering, "Well... fuck the world. I'll make it happen."
ru nodded slightly. Darian was still a bit green, but he was growing fast. He just needed a guide. That's why she'd been watching him since the mont he awakened. She'd seen him die twice... the first ti, pathetically, but the second was an act of courage, proof that he was changing.
She nodded again, and a pure white light circled around Darian. In seconds, he felt his whole body completely healed.
And not just that—every bit of power in his rings was restored. Even more... he felt that white power rging with his whole body.
He clenched his fists, stunned. It felt like he could move, circulate energy, or do anything, all multiple tis easier.
This was the real white power...
A miraculous healing, capable of restoring everything and even buffing the body like an absolute cheat.
She spoke, snapping him out of it.
"Now, let's talk about your abilities. I couldn't stand watching you butcher my technique any longer."
