Xu Shu was well aware that a peaceful life like this was rare for him in this world; spending a whole day without any illness or disaster was truly a joyful occasion.

What he didn’t expect was for this peace to disappear so quickly.

In the blink of an eye, it was shattered.

"...I just want a bit of quiet life, why is it so hard?"

Xu Shu chuckled bitterly, stood up, called over his adoptive mother and younger sister, and led them to the door, cooperating fully with the police.

Being an "internal staff" who had handled relevant cases multiple tis, he was well acquainted with the process when a related event occurred, and understood the working style of the Judgent Departnt’s grassroots officers.

The first step was visiting nearby residents for basic preliminary investigations.

This mainly involved making inquiries about the deceased’s daily situation, lifestyle habits, relations with neighbors, and whether there were any negative rumors about them in the neighborhood, then collecting all this information and reporting it to the relevant prosecutor within the departnt.

During the initial investigation period, if suspicious individuals were found, they would choose to call for assistance or control the person on the spot depending on the situation.

Therefore, Xu Shu understood that their status as "new residents from outside" wasn’t too sensitive during non-sensitive tis, but would beco very sensitive in such a sensitive situation.

In short, even if the identity was reasonable and legitimate, he still chose to cooperate proactively, which could effectively avoid being treated as a murder suspect and taken to the police station for further interrogation. It was the best and most preferred attitude by the police.

As expected, with the officers summoning them one by one, the entire family ca to the door, where the on-duty officers checked each person’s identity.

Seeing their new and outrageous residency docuntation and other papers, everyone perked up a bit, their eyes becoming scrutinizing.

As for the stern-eyed old police captain, he took this ti to walk into their ho, stopping in the living room, casually glancing around to see if there were any abnormalities.

While communicating with the young officer responsible for inquiries, Xu Shu also learned the general situation of the incident.

The deceased was a resident of 88B across the street, nad Zhang Qian, 25 years old, a stay-at-ho wife with a child, whose "husband" was an interdiate researcher of no high or low rank. The couple had a daughter.

Due to the special nature of the husband’s work, although a notification was sent, they’ve been unable to reach him for the ti being.

After investigating basic information, the officers slightly kept an eye on Xu Shu’s family as "outsiders new to Penglai District", but since the family was honest and had a good attitude, they didn’t make things difficult, just left an extra mark.

After completing this, a group of young officers stood by the door waiting for the captain to finish his inspection; they would later go upstairs to continue visiting and inquiring.

After Xu Shu completed the records, the image of the woman he encountered this morning, as familiar as a ripe peach, beca even clearer in his mind, leaving him sowhat puzzled.

How could she be the one dead?

That flashy woman was still lively this morning, trying to seduce him; she was a First Rank "Vet", which, although not known for combat ability, was still a Transcendent. Whoever wanted to kill her definitely wasn’t an ordinary person.

Could it be that she offended soone and they ca knocking for revenge?

But looking at her flirtatious appearance, she didn’t seem like soone who would offend others, right?

Could it be that she offended soone unknowingly? Or was she actually a mistress, killed by the man’s legitimate wife?

Xu Shu felt sowhat dubious.

Originally, this matter had nothing to do with him, but occurring at his doorstep left him feeling uneasy, prompting him to ask the young officer who just took his statent in a deep voice: "Regarding this incident, how are you characterizing it now? What is your basis? Have you reported it to any special departnts within the higher-ups?"

"Huh?"

The young officer was dumbfounded on the spot.

Though he had not been in the role for long, he had accompanied several missions and encountered many civilians, it was the first ti he was addressed in such a manner, as if it were an upper managent evaluation.

The unexpected interrogation left him with a blank brain, wanting to say sothing, but his thoughts couldn’t turn, his mouth slightly opened, moving without knowing what to say, just swallowing repeatedly.

The boy in front of him seed much younger, definitely under 20, yet during the questioning, he inexplicably felt like facing a towering mountain, as if he had returned to his initial interview, being interrogated not by civilians but by the sharp-eyed deputy director!

"Why am I so nervous... What should I say? What did he just ask? Oh damn!"

As the stunned ti lengthened, the young officer felt increasingly helpless, as if the eyes of his seniors beside him were gathered mockingly at his ineptitude, feeling as if there were bugs crawling on his back, making his scalp hot and numb.

Seeing the awkwardness seemingly about to beco a stain on his career, the young officer suddenly flashed his eyes, finally noticing the steady gait of the police captain behind Xu Shu, coming out of the house.

"Master!" He seed to have found a savior, casting a pleading glance.

"Hmm?"

The middle-aged police captain had just surveyed around Xu Shu’s ho with piercing eyes, temporarily finding no anomalies, just walked out to see his apprentice facing an interrogation from a departnt na, seemingly about to make a fool of himself.

He imdiately squinted his eyes in displeasure, intervening:

"What’s the matter? Who are you? Why ask so many questions? What is your relationship with the deceased? Where have you been this afternoon? Did you go to the deceased’s ho? Do you have anyone who can provide an alibi? Why aren’t you speaking? Are you feeling guilty of a cri?"
