Xu Shu had never expected that the sa developnt he had learnt from the mouths of living beings, rather than from the seemingly human but absolutely non-human Evil Spirits in the ruins, would reveal itself from reality.
This... what’s going on here?
Does it an that the legends I’ve experienced are related to actual history, and therefore so things are inevitable, beyond my control, unable to escape from predetermined historical destiny, unable to stop the wheels of history from turning?
Or does it suggest that my actions within the legends can indeed alter history to so extent?
But if that were the case, why did the Great Catastrophe, which was supposed to happen half a year earlier in the second legend, "Kyoto Collapse," not occur in reality?
Xu Shu was frowning, unable to figure it out.
There were actually multiple possible explanations for this matter.
For instance, it could be that the Gu Family in reality does not truly carry on the ancient bloodline; they simply acquired the inheritance from the ruins and made it their own, fabricating ancestors to add luster to their na, to boost their own worth.
This possibility wasn’t out of the question, but Xu Shu couldn’t be certain, because there was a puzzling issue: the appearance of the "Land of Burial" ruins had been a recent event, yet the Gu Family had acquired this inheritance many years ago.
Another unresolved mystery was added to the world...
"Indeed, once it’s related to the ruins, many things start to beco confusing and mystifying, odd and baffling, leaving one completely clueless."
Xu Shu shook his head, indicating that he had too little information and simply couldn’t grasp it.
This made him involuntarily think of a classic paradox: Which ca first, the chicken or the egg?
The sa logic applied here.
Did the legends create the ruins that then influenced real history?
Or did the ruins left over from history affect the Tai Chu Scroll and produce the legends?
"Tai Chu Scroll, say sothing, translate for , what’s going on!"
Xu Shu angrily concentrated his consciousness and poked at the golden ancient book suspended in the void, trying to get so kind of small explanation from it.
The Tai Chu Scroll was very cooperative, with the illusory golden characters in the air motionlessly writing:
[Welco back to the Tai Chu Scroll, great master, today’s opening count: 3/3]
No change at all.
Xu Shu stared for a long ti but couldn’t derive any aning from it.
Eventually, he gave up on thinking and closed his eyes to rest, quietly beginning to simulate in his mind how to arrange the death pensions for his deceased team mbers.
This was his first involvent in such matters and he had no experience; he should be more adept next ti.
...
Before long, Xu Shu looked up and noticed he had passed the "◎"-shaped loop-like building of the Astronomy Association outside the Star Tower.
To the north of the Star Tower was the Judgent Departnt, and in a nondescript corner to the north of the Judgent Departnt was the Hunter Association.
This architectural complex, a perfect combination of modern apartnt buildings and classical garden greenery, was hidden by the surrounding skyscrapers, totally unremarkable, but no one would underestimate them.
At the entrance, Wei Wujiu, Gu Jiangming, and others had already arrived.
Gu Pan’s car stopped by the roadside, and Wei Wujiu scurried over, observed the surroundings, opened the car door for Xu Shu, bobbing his head and grinning from ear to ear.
Xu Shu was surprised.
What’s this old guy up to?
Why was he acting so servile, as if trying to ingratiate himself?
Could it be that he was suffering from Stockholm syndro?
Xu Shu shook his head and didn’t engage in further conversation.
This was his second visit to the Hunter Association’s hall since the Gu Family had moved away and the Wei Family had taken their place.
During his previous visit, the people here hadn’t given him a warm welco.
In this regard, Gu Pan and Gu Yue Ming also had a say; when they returned last ti, they were almost driven out.
But this ti was different; Wei Wujiu, Qin Yue, and the other six people lined up to welco him, just short of unfurling a banner reading ’Welco, leader, for your inspection.’
Only Gu Jiangming’s expression wasn’t too happy; he had just barely recovered from a fracture in both arms, and his face was dark and gloomy.
Wei Wujiu took the initiative to speak, "Brother Gu, everyone has arrived, so let’s bring out the stakes."
Being a shrewd man, he imdiately changed the form of address, allowing the other’s surna to be openly revealed.
Gu Jiangming glanced at him, how could he not understand the old man’s thoughts?
Actually, it wasn’t just Wei Wujiu; he also noticed that the attitudes of the other five friends had beco very subtle.
’Impermanence’ Qin Yue, ’assassin’ Butcher Zhang, ’night watchman’ You Yong, and two ’Fire Mages’ He Buping, Liang San.
Although these guys were fair-weather friends, they were still reasonably friendly and appeared quite pleased to be ingratiating themselves with him.
But now, these guys were like completely different people; they all looked serious as if they couldn’t wait to distance themselves from him.
The reason, Gu Jiangming thought, was clear.
Wasn’t it just because he had lost the bet to that unknown youngster?
’Ha, a bunch of cheap people, opportunistic, it’s not my fault if you court death! None of you are going to survive today!’
Gu Jiangming looked towards his forr friends with an expressionless face, glanced at Gu Pan and Gu Yue Ming without any change in tone, and said, "Your things, along with what others have left, are all kept in the forr Gu Family ancestral ho; I haven’t touched them, look for them yourselves."
"Gu Family ancestral ho..."
Wei Wujiu heard this and frowned slightly, wanting to correct it.
This place, inherited by the Wei Family after taking over the original territory of the Gu Family, was the only part they hadn’t demolished, an old house that was said to have been a clan hall.
Later, when Gu Jiangming ca to seek refuge, he had actively requested it, so they simply let him reside there.
