Xu Shu instinctively interrupted, "Am I the last ray of dawn in the darkness?"
"What the heck?" Xie Xiaochan was stunned.
Xu Shu’s expression stiffened, and he hurriedly said, "It’s nothing, nothing, you continue. What’s going to happen when the darkness descends?"
"Strange and weird." Xie Xiaochan glanced at Xu Shu with suspicion, but still continued in an eerie tone, like the kind adults use to coax stubborn children to bed, "If you don’t manage to enter the church in ti, you’ll be swallowed by the creatures in the darkness. So far, no one has lasted beyond ten breaths."
"Only ten breaths?"
Xu Shu clicked his tongue.
It seems there are so special creatures hidden in the darkness, which only appear after the alarm goes off and are either extrely powerful or exceedingly nurous.
Uh, why does this sound familiar... Oh right, isn’t this just like the dark creatures outside the safe zone walls after night falls!
Could it be that the great church within the secret realm is equivalent to the safe zone in the wasteland?
Xu Shu pondered and suddenly asked impulsively, "This ten-breath ti limit, isn’t it also sothing that was experinted by the curious ones earlier?"
"No." Xie Xiaochan shook her head.
"That’s good." Xu Shu instantly breathed a sigh of relief.
But in the next second, Xie Xiaochan said, "It was other curious ones, because the one who did the experint died."
Xu Shu: "..."
"Do you think you’re very humorous?"
"Isn’t it?"
Xie Xiaochan blinked mischievously and then took out a small wooden box that emitted a faint glow.
She slightly opened the wooden box and secretly showed Xu Shu what was inside.
It was a broken samurai sword, with a damaged blade that seed to have been bitten by sothing, a guard that was missing a third, and only the rough, smooth fish-skin handle remained relatively intact, topped with a round, blood-red Treasure Bead—a special trigger item, half a Demon Sword, "Inch Stop"!
It wasn’t Xu Shu’s first ti seeing this item; he knew its origins, and even when Xie Xiaochan nearly pierced her heart with this sword while exploring ruins, he observed it closely. After all, it was thanks to Wang Teng’s self-detonating a layer of the bull-headed dragon form that Xie Xiaochan’s life was saved.
But seeing it again was still quite unsettling.
This thing looked too damned much like a Ziwei Stick.
Especially after it broke, it resembled the original host of the Evil Spirit Arthur even more.
How risqué, no wonder it’s from the Seven Directions Daoist...
Xu Shu watched as Xie Xiaochan put the trigger item away again and silently grumbled.
Unaware that Xu Shu was critiquing her internally, Xie Xiaochan rather considerately said, "Hehe, this ti we were lucky, but next ti we encounter danger, don’t push it too far; if you need to run, just run. As for , hehe, I’ve got my own way of staying alive!"
"..." Xu Shu gave her a look, thinking that her "way of staying alive" might refer to having Curse Fetus Wang Teng self-detonate another life within her, who knows.
Xie Xiaochan continued to whisper, "These three guys are truly a bit dumb, actually getting tricked by the Red Emperor Army people. Now we’ve lost a butcher, and we’re lacking soone to scout ahead. Fortunately, I’m familiar with the terrain of Death Report Ridge; I think we can try and explore it. What do you think?"
Xu Shu said skeptically, "If you’re sure we can handle it, let’s give it a try. Missing one person isn’t too big of a problem; our fighting strength is still stronger than the teams we’ve had before."
"Hehe, I think the sa, so we’ll wait for them to recover and then head out to get the treasures from that place and then leave here!" Xie Xiaochan licked her lips with slight excitent.
"Alright."
Seeing her confidence, Xu Shu didn’t say much more and readily agreed.
He guessed that Xie Xiaochan’s target was the source of this Demon Sword "Inch Stop," its original owner, the corpse of "Jia Gu You Tai"!
The two quickly reached an agreent and began guarding.
Yet, at this mont, the sound of a drum echoed across the land,
Dong Dong Dong!
Dong!
Dong!
Dong!
The drumbeat sounded twelve tis before stopping, and the sky suddenly filled with black, soft, downy Little Xue.
Closely following were rapid alarm sounds, spoken in an extrely peculiar language and tone, Ding La Ding La, like an ominous urging:
"An unhappy hungry brain! An unhappy hungry brain..."
Xu Shu’s eyes imdiately narrowed.
Though he didn’t understand the language, he knew its aning; the Tai Chu Scroll had already translated it for him: "Ergency announcent! The night is about to arrive! All citizens please imdiately proceed to the nearest underground public shelter for refuge! Mother Goddess will protect you!"
In an instant, it was as if a gunshot disturbed the peaceful secret forest at dusk, and flocks of black "birds" appeared as if frightened.
These were groups of people, pouring out from all directions and relatively intact buildings, in dense waves heading towards the church, like a swarm of ants hurrying to move house in the rain.
