Area 51 is bigger than Xiao Xian and the others imagined, and also much more desolate.
Xiao Xian felt a sensation of being back in the undeveloped C area of the North Campus.
There are no roads here, yet there are roads everywhere, with traces of large military transport trucks having passed, and occasionally a military airplane flies across the sky.
Xiao Xian and the other two moved stealthily, slowly walking in the darkness.
They only found the abandoned place called the Maff Mine at dawn.
This abandoned pit was reportedly used for extracting nickel ore and was nad the Mafu Mine because transportation was done by coach. The nickel here had long been fully extracted, and entering the site, one could only find discarded iron shovels and transport wheelbarrows.
"It seems we are unlikely to find any useful clues here, and other countries have already been here," Wang Shuai noticed so stones that had been shattered and then taken away. Apparently, other national delegations also tried to find clues in this mining area.
But there’s nothing else here beyond a few remnants of nickel ore.
Xiao Xian and the others discussed and decided to head toward Mafu Lake quickly.
Mafu Lake is not truly a lake; it’s a natural pit of unknown origin, vast enough to cover the size of a typical farm. Due to its closeness to the Mafu Mine area, the local air force garrison jokingly called it Mafu Lake.
Upon entering the Mafu Lake District, the three of them donned new advanced detection equipnt developed by Xuerou.
They were rubber glasses similar to 3D goggles, equipped with the "Treasure Eye" feature. Putting on the glasses, the entire Mafu Lake transford into a visual combination of light and shadow.
Ordinary objects and stones appeared black, while living beings, plants, and so animals and insects in the "lake district" emitted dazzling red light.
Xiao Xian, Wang Shuai, and Yiyi divided into three teams, each responsible for the upper, middle, and lower regions of Mafu Lake.
As dawn approached, the evening sun glimred red on the horizon.
"A discovery," Yiyi shouted.
Wang Shuai and Xiao Xian imdiately converged toward her location.
Yiyi stood beside a mound and removed her glasses, staring at the protruding earthen slope.
"What’s up? There’s nothing unusual around here," Wang Shuai checked with his detection glasses but found no suspicious signs.
"There’s sothing strange underneath," Yiyi pointed at the earthen slope.
"Just a few lizards," Wang Shuai also observed the outlines of lizards active beneath the slope.
"No, the slope is hollow, there’s a cavity below," Yiyi gestured, and a few lizards crawled out from beside the slope, affectionately stopping by her feet.
Xiao Xian and Wang Shuai exchanged a glance, and Wang Shuai suddenly struck with force, unleashing a Spiritual Power Fist.
The seemingly solid slope collapsed with a crash, revealing a deep cavity beneath the original slope site, winding downward, leading to an unknown depth underground.
"Should we go down?" Yiyi was eager to try.
"Be cautious; I’ve never heard of such an underground entrance in Mafu Lake. The US Army has been stationed here for a long ti. If there were any discoveries, there should be so clues," Wang Shuai was disinclined to enter the underground region.
"But we’ve already searched nearby and didn’t find any stones resembling Mafu Stone. I think other areas in the district won’t yield results either, so we might as well try it," Yiyi encouraged, winking at Yiyi.
"I think it’s worth a try. We have no other places left to search." The final deadline for the team’s assessnt had passed nearly a month ago, and their progress lagged far behind other national delegations.
One thing was certain: no national delegation had discovered Mafu Stone yet.
In the past month, exchange students who arrived early had ample ti to thoroughly search Area 51.

Wang Shuai pondered briefly, letting Yiyi send a lizard in first, then striking a match and tossing it into the hole. The match, caught in the wind at the opening, burned till the end before extinguishing.
After a while, the lizard crawled out of the hole, showing no abnormalities.
"Breathable air and the fire didn’t go out; it should be safe," Yiyi was eager and quickly jumped into the hole.
