Yang PeiMin and Luo Dahua hardly listened, only caught one or two sentences before returning.
Luo Dahua sighed, "No wonder these people are like that. First, they are anxious on the inside, and second, during the eting in the auditorium, Wen Qing took on everything confidently, saying anyone could co to her for anything. Well, now that these things have happened, who else should they turn to if not her? She presented herself as so capable, convincing everyone thoroughly."
Yang PeiMin smiled and shook her head, not sure if this was Wen Qing’s just desserts.
Even so, such trivial matters couldn’t stump her. Didn’t she just manage to silence that person a mont ago?
Around five o’clock in the afternoon, people began to get news, and many were safe.
Shen Yiguang also had soone report back that he was safe.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
They now had the mood to cook, making a lavish al to calm Shen Yiguang’s nerves.
Chen Guizhi seed to co back to life as well, no longer feeling dizzy or stuffy, she pulled Shen Yixiang into the kitchen to start preparing dinner.
But by the ti dinner was ready, Shen Yiguang still hadn’t returned by alti. Everyone deliberately waited until eight before eating, but he still didn’t co back.
So they went ahead and ate.
After dinner, they wouldn’t consider going to bed early, insisting on waiting for Shen Yiguang’s return. After Yang PeiMin put Lele to bed, she propped her eyelids open, leaning on the couch.
Shen Yiyue persuaded her to go to bed first and promised to wake her once Shen Yiguang ca ho.
Yang PeiMin really couldn’t stay awake, and she nodded her head in agreent.
Shen Yiguang returned at eleven o’clock at night, his body covered with snowflakes. Sister Yixiang and their siblings quickly grabbed a small whisk broom to help brush him off.
"Brother, you’re finally back. Are you hurt? Have you eaten anything? Hurry up and take a shower first; you’ll feel cleaner and warr."
Shen Yiguang nodded, "I’m not hurt, had so stead buns. I’ll go take a shower now. Aren’t you all sleeping yet? You should go to sleep; I can take care of myself."
"Brother, there’s still food in the pot. I’ll heat it up for you. Mom and dad wanted to wait for you too, but we sent them to sleep. I told them I’d wake them once you got back."
"Yeah, sister-in-law said the sa thing. So now that they’re asleep, should we wake them or not?"
Shen Yiguang shook his head with a smile, "Just go and tell mom and dad. They probably won’t sleep well anyway. There’s no need to wake your sister-in-law."
Shen Yixiang quickly nodded.
Shen Yiguang grabbed so clean clothes and took a shower.
Entering the room, he heard his son smacking his lips, a sound he recognized as the baby being hungry. Shen Yiguang groped in the dark to make a bottle of formula, picked him up to feed, and then changed his diaper. Trying to be as quiet as possible, he luckily didn’t wake Yang PeiMin.
Yang PeiMin slept deeply. Despite knowing that Shen Yiguang hadn’t co ho and intending to sleep lightly, due to physical exhaustion and the fact that Lele didn’t cry, she ended up sleeping until dawn, only waking when she felt hungry.
The first thing she did was to reach for the bed next to her, no one was there, but the quilt was warm; it seed Shen Yiguang had returned. Her heart stopped worrying; it was good enough that he was back, even though he was often unseen. What mattered most was that he was safe.
It wasn’t until she went out to have breakfast that she learned everyone knew about Shen Yiguang’s return the previous night except for her. She couldn’t help but ask Shen Yiyue, "Didn’t I ask you to let know when your brother ca back?"
Shen Yiyue blinked in confusion, "Oh, sister-in-law, you share the sa bed with my brother. How could you not know?"
Yang PeiMin’s face turned slightly red, "I was sleeping soundly."
Shen Yiyue quickly said, "Oh my, you were sleeping so soundly, but did Lele manage to have his formula?"
Yang PeiMin was also startled. It couldn’t be that the baby cried and she didn’t know, could it? She hurried to check on her son.
Chen Guizhi ca over holding the baby from behind and said, "He did have his formula, and his diaper was changed twice. It looks like his dad did it."
Yang PeiMin finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She hadn’t expected that Shen Yiguang would do such things. She hadn’t known at all and really felt ashad.
"Sister-in-law, it’s good that my brother is here. He hasn’t held Lele in several days. You should prepare so formula for him; otherwise, Lele might not recognize his dad in a few days. You’re pregnant and more sensitive, so it can’t be helped," Shen Yiyue consoled her.
Yang PeiMin smiled and nodded, her heart filled with warmth. Shen Yiyue was especially understanding.
"I wonder how things are outside? Have you heard anything?" Shen Yiguang expressed concern about Luo Dahua and the others.
"Everyone says it’s fine. Although soone was injured, there were no fatalities, which is a huge relief. I’ve always said that our soldiers are well-trained and react swiftly. It’s said that when the avalanche hit, it didn’t cover everyone; so imdiately started rescue operations. Since the coverage wasn’t deep, they were able to quickly dig people out. My brother was among those not buried and he took an active part in the rescue, providing strong leadership. I think he might even be comnded for it," Shen Yiyue explained.
Yang PeiMin looked at her, "How do you know? Is this common knowledge now?"
"I don’t think it’s widely known yet. This is what my brother told last night."
Yang PeiMin nodded, relieved.
Chen Guizhi also patted her chest, still visibly shaken, "What a relief, your brother is fine. In fact, I was just lying on the bed, unable to sleep. I was about to get up when you were talking. We don’t even know if he can co back to have dinner with everyone tonight. Do we have enough at at ho?"
"We have plenty. We bought a lot, rember? Enough to last ten days."
Originally they planned to return to the city the next day, as the factory was preparing to resu operations, and Shen Erniu was also thinking of going back. While this place was nice, he was still worried about the livestock and the house at ho.
But now, with Shen Yiguang so busy that he couldn’t even find ti for als, they decided to stay for another two days, waiting for him to get so free ti so everyone could catch up properly.
Soon, so military wives ca to sit down and talked about the events of the previous day, all with tales of close calls but no harm.
"It was all fine, my husband’s ears got frostbitten, his hat got lost and was never found. When he ca back, I applied so eggplant paste that I had boiled. He went out again early this morning, but luckily, we had one or two extra hats at ho. I made sure he wore one so he wouldn’t get frostbite."
"My husband’s hands got frostbitten too, he was digging through the snow barehanded to rescue people. He didn’t realize it at the ti, but when he ca back, he felt both pain and numbness. I was afraid he’d get frostbite, so I promptly applied so herbal dicine."
"There was another snowfall last night, and it’s gotten dark again. Looks like it might snow so more. Who knows when it will get warr. My husband’s feet were swollen when he got back; he didn’t feel it and soaked them in hot water, which made him wince in pain..."
Listenting to their stories, Yang PeiMin’s heart also clenched with worry. She didn’t know if Shen Yiguang had gotten frostbitten, and if anyone hadn’t noticed... She herself had been sleeping like a log.
