She sought out nobody but Yang PeiYing, pleading with her to explain to everyone that she and Qu Fang weren’t dating, that the movie ticket was Qu Fang giving it to Yang PeiYing courteously, and after refusing it, she threw it away, which allowed her to pick it up later.
Yang PeiYing was utterly baffled upon hearing this.
She didn’t know what to do; she had never been begged like this before.
Lu Hailing was preying on her tendency to be soft-hearted, and upon seeing PeiYing slightly relent, she quickly let her tears fall and cried as if they cost nothing. “Yingzi, please, I beg you, otherwise I won’t be able to survive. When she ca out to drink so water, she heard noises coming from the kitchen and soone crying. Curious, she went over to check.
She heard Lu Hailing begging Yang PeiYing for help.
PeiMin couldn’t help but interject indignantly, “Hailing, you really know how to shift your target. Are you hoping that once Yingzi admits to it, Qu Fang’s entanglent will shift to her? How considerate of you!”
Lu Hailing abruptly turned around. Her eyes flickered, and then she sobbed and shook her head. “That’s not it, sister-in-law, I wasn’t thinking that at all. Yingzi has always refused him. I’m just asking Yingzi to acknowledge that Qu Fang is pursuing her, not to admit to dating Qu Fang.”
“Hailing, do you truly not understand, or are you pretending not to? Rumors aren’t things you can just dispel by admitting to them or not. Peiying has already refused him; she threw away the movie ticket, and it was your greed that made you pick it up. If you hadn’t picked it up, there’d be no issue, right? It’s your own fault for being too greedy and taking advantage. Don’t say that you didn’t know soone was going to throw away the ticket. If you knew it was us who discarded it, you should’ve co to ask why and whether it was the right thing to pick it up. If you did not know it was discarded by soone, it might have been lost, and the person who lost it might very well be one of our neighbors. If you had any conscience, you should’ve inquired about who lost the movie ticket and returned it to them, not sneakily go watch it yourself.”
Yang PeiMin’s words caused Lu Hailing’s face to turn red, but she was resilient and imdiately said, “Sister-in-law, sister Yingzi, I know I was wrong to pick up the ticket. Ending up in this situation is my punishnt. Can you just help , for the sake of being future sisters-in-law?”
Yang PeiMin shook her head, “We really can’t! Honestly, Hailing, you’ve been taking advantage of things for more than a day or two. You’ve taken so many good things from our house back to yours, and we know Lele’s grandmother is soft-hearted by nature and likes to help others. But as the younger generation and as a future in-law, you shouldn’t be shalessly taking things without feeling embarrassed, without considering how your brother would feel. You’re not even married into the family yet but keep taking things from your in-laws’ house. Aren’t you afraid of people laughing at you? We haven’t minded the small things, considering them as charity, but you can’t take this for granted and take advantage repeatedly. Now you’re actually manipulating my sister into admitting to soone else’s relationship. Do you really think we’re easy to bully or what?”
And so, Lu Hailing was scolded away.
Yang PeiYing watched, stunned.
PeiMin then smiled at her and said, “Next ti you encounter such a situation, you should do just like now. If you can’t decide what’s right or wrong on your own, you should ask others for advice.”
Yang PeiYing nodded, “Mhm mhm,” her face breaking into a smile.
