Chapter 239: 239
Shen Yiguang said indifferently, “It’s nothing, you can go out now.”
The nurse still seed a bit concerned, “If there’s anything, let soone co and call again, and rember to take your dication later. You are a special care patient in our hospital, and we can’t afford to be negligent at all.”
Shen Yiguang frowned slightly. “Saving lives and helping the injured is the duty of the hospital, there’s no distinction in that.”
After the nurse finally left, Yang PeiMin sat down beside Shen Yiguang’s bed, “Why do I feel that sothing’s not quite right?”
“What’s not right?” Shen Yiguang took her hand. “Are you talking about that nurse? Indeed, she’s a bit long-winded, but staying in the hospital is inevitable, she’s just being responsible.”
Yang PeiMin gave him a sidelong glance, “Who’s talking about that? I’m talking about the fact that you obviously had soone clean you up, but you didn’t say anything and kept it from again. How many things are you still hiding from ?”
“That… well, I knew you were coming over, so a comrade helped clean up a bit. But n are careless and don’t do it thoroughly, and so areas… are not the sort that I would feel comfortable having you tend to…”
“You…” Yang PeiMin glared at him but then let it go.
“Join for so food later, you haven’t taken your dication yet, have you?”
“I’ve eaten already, it’s not ti for the dication yet.”
Yang PeiMin stood up and tidied up the things in the ward. Although it did not look ssy, anything that wasn’t neatly symtric bothered her. She had an itch to straighten them up until the place felt familiar to her—after all, she had spent quite a few days here. Fortunately, Shen Yiguang had a hospital room all to himself.
Shen Yiguang watched her bustling figure, feeling a soft warmth in his heart, as if he could never get enough of it, even though Yang PeiMin had been in a hurry to co over from downtown to water the vegetable field and then dashed over here, her hair tousled, her clothes wrinkled, her eyes slightly red and looking fatigued.
He called out to her, “Stop bustling, co and rest.”
Yang PeiMin quickly finished tidying up, mopped the floor, drew the curtain to the other side, placed the water cup within reach, then washed her face, fixed her hair, and finally sat down to pour herself a drink.
Xiao Xu ca back, bringing a portion of at porridge, two portions of dumplings, and four stead buns. “The night market is over, and that’s all that was left at the restaurant across the street. I had them reheat everything.”
“You’ve worked hard, Xiao Xu. Sit down and let’s eat together.” There was a foldable small table in the room that could co in handy now.
Although Shen Yiguang had already eaten, he decided to drink a bowl of porridge to ease Yang PeiMin’s mind, and without need for her to feed him, he picked up the bowl and drank it down in two gulps.
Yang PeiMin looked at him in amazent. “You drink just like a cow gulping water.”
Xiao Xu couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Shen Yiguang gave him a cool glance, and Xiao Xu quickly bowed his head, stuffing down two stead buns in a few bites. “I need to get back to the base, it’s getting late. I’ll leave now; boss, I’ll co again tomorrow.”
Yang PeiMin told him to take half of the dumplings with him.
Xiao Xu left swiftly. It was only after he had gone that Yang PeiMin finally asked Shen Yiguang, “Wasn’t Xiao Xu looking after you here? Does he run back and forth every day like this?”
“I told him to go back. There are many others who need his vehicle; it’s not just to serve .” Shen Yiguang said as he moved the bed slightly. “It’s not safe for you to stay outside at night, so squeeze in here with .”
Yang PeiMin cast her gaze to his bed, noticing that there indeed wasn’t much space. If she were to sleep there without moving around much, it would be fine, but otherwise, she was certain to bump into his wound or fall onto the floor. “No, I’ll touch your wound. There should be a spare folding bed here, I’ll go borrow one.”
Shen Yiguang stopped her, “That’s also small, and with your way of sleeping, it’s not safe either. Only if I hold you will you not fall off.”
Yang PeiMin couldn’t help but be cross with him.
After Yiguang took his dicine and I had finished washing up, which of course only ant wiping my body down like Yiguang did and changing into a fresh set of clothes, I lay down beside him. Although space was indeed tight, Yiguang had one arm wrapped tightly around , reassuring enough to dispel any lingering fear of falling off the bed.
“Having family by your side to take care of you can really speed up recovery, and I can’t figure out why you wouldn’t want to know. Did you think I wouldn’t worry or get angry if I found out later?” I was tired, but because I had missed him for so long, I just couldn’t help but to talk to him. It really made it hard for to fall asleep.
Yiguang reached out and rubbed my head with difficulty, his voice gentle, “Taking care of a sick person is really exhausting, and look, your face is worn out. When you walked in earlier, I almost didn’t recognize you. Who’s this big sister?”
“Yiguang, you’re looking for trouble!”
“Have you been crying?”
“I thought you were going to die.”
“How could I die? I haven’t even beco a father yet.”
“Tell the truth; those two injuries are close to so pretty vital areas, right? There’s no problem, is there?”
“Well… give it a try.”
“Are you out of your mind?”
“Don’t think too much, just check with your hand…”
“No…”
Yang PeiMin really didn’t want anything to do with this cheeky man who, even injured, was still so full of mischief. Agreeing to share a bed with him was really rather naive of .
Getting out of bed ant another round of cleaning up, washing my hands thoroughly several tis with soap, and then applying hand cream twice before I felt sowhat better.
I was definitely going to borrow an extra bed now, no matter what.
As Yiguang lay in bed watching , he appeared sowhat lonely, “Wifey, are you really going to leave behind?”
“Get lost!”
I glanced at my watch; it was past 11 PM. There are usually nurses on duty in the hospital at this ti, so I thought getting a folding bed shouldn’t be a problem. Yiguang, looking resigned, let walk out, “If there’s none, co right back.”
“I know.”
As I opened the door, I saw two nurses rushing past in the corridor, heading toward the room next to mine. Shouts of alarm were coming from that room, and as the nurses approached, I overheard their conversation, “What’s happening in Room 302?”
“I heard his wife has co. He’s another soldier who concealed his injuries from his wife.”
They entered the room right after speaking.
Yang PeiMin thought she might as well wait for them to co out before asking; it would save her a trip to the nurse’s station. She’d hurried over and didn’t even know where it was located.
Seeing her standing in the doorway, Yiguang couldn’t help but ask, “What’s going on?”
Yang PeiMin turned her head back and gossiped, “Is your war buddy staying next door? Who is it? His wife has co storming over. Hey, what’s with this preference in your troop of hiding things from your wives?”
Yiguang sighed, “It’s Shao Hui living next door, and he’s got it worse than this ti around.”
Yang PeiMin was stunned. The noisy woman next door was Du Juanjuan.
